the only other qualm i have with the controls are the fact you move your character, and change your view (while shooting) with the same analog. The transistion from one to the other is really foreign at first. You'll find yourself aiming at people's toes, or up in the stars for a little bit

So you hit one of the trigger buttons on the nunchuck to switch back and forth...or hold it down? If so, that would be foreign at first...but I could see it working once you get used to it. And for shooting, I assume the A button gets out your weapon and the B trigger fires it? Really looking forward to a game I finished at least a year ago...which is a strange feeling. |
very close
to pull your gun out to the ready position, you hold the B button, then push the A button to shoot you walk with the right analog, but when you are holding B, that analog now operates your field of vision. Unless you stop, then hold the button, your view is automatically going to move on ya |

definitely
but my biggest pet peeve is the sorry excuse for a strafe. very very awkward |
I don't remember even having a strafe in the GC version....
|
there isn't, really
you can turn the view to the side, and walk forward, but you would be aiming to the side same effect, essentially |
Not really the same as strafing is moving quickly side to side while still being able to aim.
Basically dodging and shooting at the same time. All you can do here is go forward and aim. |
you're still able to aim
it's the only way to see around corners in the game. They definitely should have added a real strafe probably the most retarded thing in the game |
That's what I said, your just aiming. Not moving side to side, aiming and shooting all at the same time.
That's why I found the controls in the GC version still to clunky for my liking. If you're going to make it a full on action game, give it full on action game controls. Hopefully RE5 will control more like Gears of War if it retains the action focus. |
Can you switch the buttons in the options - I'd rather pull out my gun with the A-button and shoot with the trigger than the other way around - but maybe that won't work too well in practice.
|
yea, it would definitely be better if they improved the controls a bit
I haven't played the older versions but I've heard enough about them. It definitely seems like an improvement with the wii pointer, but they should have revamped the controls this time around. |
Couldn't get past the boulder last night... does that seem a little tougher than the GC version to anyone? Seems like if you don't do it the first few tries, you've gotta rest your wrist awhile...at least I did.
|
I had no problem with the boulder. Try a different controller, maybe its not registering?
|
If anyone is still on the fence about picking this up, FYE has a $10 mail-in rebate going right now. I read about it on CAG right before leaving work and decided to pick it up. $30 was a bit much for me since I already have the GC version, but for $20 I figured I'd go for it. I'll probably trade or sell my copy of the GC version since it's kinda pointless to have both versions (unless I try the Wii version and hate it, which seems unlikely based on the reviews).

the option isn't for the original GC controller
but you can use the classic controller |
I'm probably picking this up for the Wii since my girlfriend was interested in playing it. I have it for GC, but I think she would be more comfortable aiming with wiimote. By the way kurrpt, do you mean the left analog? The nunchuk is the only analog, and that would go in a left hand for righties wouldn't it? Do you hold it in your right hand?
|
honestly, I flip back and forth (right to left hand, etc)
It's because of those FMV sequences that require the button presses and shaking the Wiimote frantically. But yea, the nunchuk analog |
Okay I played this for over two hours last night (I stopped right before the lake monster), and I had a blast - I can't remember the last time I played a game for over one hour in one sitting, much less for over two... For me, this is much more fun than the Cube version.
Since it's been two years since I last played RE4 (and just recently finished Gears of War), I hadn't noticed how much GoW copied RE4 'till just now - it's as if Gears is the apocalyptic sequel to RE4, or RE5, if you will. |
I played for about 45 minutes this morning, and the Wii controls are excellent. I haven't played RE4 for years, and I forgot how great it was.

That's definitely true. Problem for me was I played Gears first, so when I played RE4 this spring I felt like I was playing the inferior prequel where they hadn't got the controls down yet. :D

This homemade review is resonably well done for an amateur, and it answers a few of the questions above...
Gamecube controller...yes...cool. Switching A and B buttons...nope...boo! <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/sSyW7gRfs_I"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/sSyW7gRfs_I" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> |
Finally picked my copy up today. Gonna try it out in a few.
