Bought a launch 360--no extra warranty.

Died a few months later (3 red lights), MSFT did the overnight thing and extended the warranty one year for free. cool!

bought a 2nd 360 premium for the game room and HD-DVD a little while later. Died about 6 months later, this time 1 red light and a weird error screen, also the games would freeze and turn all blocky. MSFT replaced it (took about 3 weeks this time).

Bought an elite 360, was going to sell the premium (1st one) on cragislist. 3 days after I get the Elite the one that was replaced now has the 3 red lights. Jesus.

So I call MSFT, and of course my extended 1 yr warranty expired 3 weeks ago and they want $139. She seemed ASTONISHED that I had a defective console. After bitching she offered to repair it for $99. I tried to speak with a supervisor, but I couldn't get them to replace it, so I guess I'm going to have to send it in and pay $100, otherwise I just have a box that likes to flash red lights at me.

So 4 360s so far since launch, 3 defective. I'm just waiting for my Elite to take a shit on me (MSFT extended warranty this time)

Buy that extended warranty with these ticking timebombs...

Anyway, I replaced mine at CC the day I bought it (red rings). No problems other than freezing a couple of times since Dec.

XBL Arcade and XBL cost additional money, do they not? I can't justify $400 for a console that has that kind of failure rate.

Live Silver is free. Live Gold is $50 a year. Silver can do anything Gold can except play online multiplayer. Live Arcade is the same as buying a retail game. You pay once then you own the game.

I replaced mine in-store once and have had to send it in once.

I haven't had to send in my launch console, thankfully. I had a 3-red ring scare a few months ago, but when I turned it back on, it worked fine, and has so ever since.

Bought mine in November 06, just got the three rings a week ago and sent it in for repairs. I really think, even if you discount some skewing because people with broken 360's are more likely to respond, that the failure rate is just absurd. There is just too much anectdotal evidence.

I still really like the console, but they should be replacing anyones console free until they get the manufacturing problems resolved.

Once for me. I hope it's the one and only time.

So what is there to do on Live Silver if not play multiplayer? Buy movies and games?

You can download demos on Silver as well.

With Silver you can still download anything, demos, pics, avatars, etc. You can still also access the marketplace where you can buy the Live Arcade games and such. Unless you plan on playing online, you do not need Gold, as that is the only thing it has that Silver does not.

Mine is still going strong after 9 months but I'm not on it probably as much as others by a long shot.
Of course that will change with Bioshock, UT3, Medal Of Honor, Brothers In Arms, and of course "H" along with a handful of others.

Haven't replaced it yet. I got it for Christmas and it was a 5/2006 system.

KurrptSenate 05-25-07 10:33 AM

i had my friend swap mine out, so technically I personally have never had to send one in

the same thing with my brothers. He got the 3 rings the day after he bought the system, but I had my friend swap out his as well

my brother-in-law just got the 3 rings last night. Im going to try to get my friend to swap his out as well, but he may have to send his in for repair

tbird2340 05-25-07 10:36 AM

Ok.. Maybe I should have rephrased the poll.. Has your 360 broken and you've had to send it in OR return it to where you purchased it and got a replacement..

Basically have you had to replace your 360. Doesn't really matter if you sent it in.. Has it broken and you got it replaced..

KurrptSenate 05-25-07 10:40 AM

i bought mine used, and that one died, and I did get it swapped out elsewhere

my brother returned his to the place he purchased his and got a new one

so I'd take that as a "yes"

loneranger 05-25-07 10:43 AM

I bought mine on launch day, it failed in June of 06 and the replacement I got has worked fine ever since. Out of all the game systems I own it is the only one I have ever had to send back to get fixed.

my Launch day unit died(5-9-07) but I haven't sent it in yet. I bought the Elite and was planning on selling the Premium afterwards. considering the repair is going to cost 140.00 there is no reason to sell it now since that would kill any profit I could have made.

Lethal Nemesis 05-25-07 11:42 AM

Mine started fucking up yesterday, 5/24/07, exactly 6 months from when I bought it (11/24/06). I don't get the red rings, but it won't read any discs at all.

My original xbox had problems too. I didn't have a warranty but MS paid for the repair.

yea, it could have sucked if I didn't have a friend to swap it out for a new one.

I basically (after all said and done) got a premium with an extra controller for 300

Ispep Aloc 05-25-07 12:36 PM

2 Times for me.

First time was a breeze, no problems. Second time they wanted me to pay for shipping and told me that this has been in effect since last February 06. I told the rep that I had a problem in August of 06 (Dead Rising "killed" my system last time) and that I would not pay for shipping. I received my box a couple days later and sent it back. They kindly sent me a free month of Xbox Live in the box with my system. Have not had a problem since I received my 2nd one.
