I don't know which quotes are from Ken and which are from Kaz, but here are a few of the "classic" things they have said:

"Next-gen doesn't start until we say it does."

"The PS3 is the only true next-gen console."

"Microsoft shoots for the moon. Sony shoots for the sun."

"Consumers will want to work part-time jobs just to afford a PS3."

"Consumers will pay $600 for the Sony brand name alone."

"We are bringing such innovations as real time weapon change and weak spots you can hit for massive damage."

While a demo reel of the Genji game is playing, and the on-screen character is fighting a giant crab, he says "Genji is based on actual historical battles."

The Genji stuff (last two quotes) is not from either of them. It is pretty funny though. Sony as a company has done everything possible to destroy its reputation with consumers.

and the latest one, don't have the exact quote but the gist was: "we can't keep the shelves stocked" regarding the PS3. This was within the past couple weeks during which stores in Europe are discounting the system to move them and they just sit on shelves here.

Also loved the interview in EGM where they call them on PS3s sitting on shelves in early January. Telling the interviewer that he will give them $1000 for every PS3 they can find sitting on shelves. They took a break while the interviewer called 30 stores and over half had them sitting on the shelves.

good stuff.

Didn't they also say that the reason PS3s are not selling very fast is because everyone wants a Wii? That is funny because last year they were saying that they were the only next-gen console, and the Wii is not in the same market.

I just remembered another one too... Sony was mad at the whole Immersion rumble lawsuit thing, so when asked why they didn't include rumble in the Sixaxis, they say "rumble is last-gen technology."

WOW!! I recall, now, after reading some of the quotes the "work two jobs" statement. Oh brother!

I like I said earlier, other than owning a PSP, I've never owned any PS (1, 2 or 3). Goofball statements like those posted sure wouldn't help get me in their camp either (although I am seriously thinking about a used PS2 so I can play Shadow of the Collosus and Kingdom Hearts)!

The PS1 did not make video games "cool". I think that dates back to the SNES/Genesis time period in the 90s. I sure remember Mortal Kombat being "cool". That era was the birth of Madden and other sports games as well.

The PlayStation 2 is a great console (game-wise). I'm hardly a Sony fanboy, but there are too many great games on the PS2 to ignore.

The PS3... not so much.

Here are some more quotes from Krazy ol' Ken:

"Though sold as a game console, what will in fact enter the home is a Cell-based computer."

"Is it not nonsense to compare the charge for dinner at the company cafeteria with dinner at a fine restaurant? It's a question of what you can do with that game machine. If you can have an amazing experience, we believe price is not a problem"

"PlayStation 3 will be capable running games at 120 fps."

"I believe we made the most beautiful thing in the world [with the PSP, despite its notorious square button problem]. Nobody would criticize a renowned architect's blueprint that the position of a gate is wrong. It's the same as that."

"Playstation 3 will be in 4D"

I think my PS3 is broken, I can't access that fourth dimension. Should I return it? Or maybe it's my TV?

Your PS3 is fine, it is your feeble human mind that can't access the fourth dimension. You can't blame the architect of the system for YOUR short-comings.

Sony (not sure who) also said the Wii is an impulse buy and that's why it's selling so well. Yeah.. standing in line for an hour is an impulse buy.

They also said that the PS3 didn't sell as well in the US because Americans are cheap (I believe that the UK president who said that).

good stuff.
That would be John Harrison, the newest CEO of Sony America, who clearly got the job based on the sole criteria of being able to say stuff just as stupid as Ken Kutaragi. He also said the "Wii is an impulse buy" comment.

Of course it is! I only own it in the future when the cost isn't stupid AND there are games worth playing.

I mean, that's one possible future, but probably not the one I'm headed towards.

I used my PS3 to head to the future and it turns out that the assassination of Senator Kelly sparks a widespread anti-mutant fervor that ends with Sentinels wiping out most of the mutant community. Pretty depressing stuff.

What timing. Or someone at 1up reads this board. I present to you Ken Kutaragi's Greatest Hits Some of your favorite quotes in one easy to find place.

Never seen that Matrix one before. That is fucking hilarious.

Sony's boneheaded comments is the single reason, I refuse to buy a PS3. They not only belitle the consumer (yea, like I want a part time job to afford a game system.......), but they also act as if the consumer is an idiot (4D???)..

What I hate worse than listening to all the BS coming from Sony all these years is the stupid little retarded Sony fan boys, that actually believe this shit.

I just wanted to comment on the whole video games weren't cool till PS1 came out. I have never heard that in my life. Growing up all my friends played video games. It was which video games you played that defined you as "cool". Were you the type of gamer that would play Zelda or Chrono Trigger? Or were you one of the cool kids that played Mortal Kombat, Madden, or NBA Jam? Were you playing Tecmo Bowl when everyone else was playing Super Mario Bros 2? That was how 'cool' was defined.

When discussing the 'videogames are cool' issue, we're never talking about kids. It's a question of what others would think of adults who play.

Sega was the first to destigmitize gaming. With their strong sports games and their aggressive marketing attempts to paint Nintendo as child's play, they legitimized gaming for young adults (college and slightly beyond).

Sony then took over and greatly expanded on what Sega had started.
