Nothing now. Probably the closest would have been Mortal Kombat II on the SNES. I rarely lost to my friends in that game and could morph into every character with Shen-Tsueng or whatever his name was and do nearly all the fatalities.

But these days I'm pretty much a beat a game and move on to the next one gamer, so I don't get anywhere near being an expert at any of them.

Soul Caliber 1,2 and 3
Armored Core 4 (double S ranked everything easily)
Virtua Tennis
Guitar Hero
Zelda : A Link to the Past (100% without dying)

I can play pretty much any 2D Mario game blind-folded.
And I'm pretty good at a lot of 2D fighting games (Street Fighter, King of Fighters, etc.)

Back in the day I was pretty good at SF2 (one Sunday I beat it with every character at the arcade on basically one quarter each) and I actually learned MK II from some tournament-level players on a trip to Las Vegas and cleaned up back in my home town.

More recently, I got to be pretty badass at Battlefield 1942, pre-expansion. I played the hell out of the demo and got to be an expert tank driver (regularly brought down planes) and spent a solid month doing nothing but playing on a sniper-only server.

Haven't really "mastered" anything since then though.

two games really
QuakeII/III
and Descent.

And that's mainly multiplayer gaming. Being an expert at the single player portion of an FPS isn't much of a challenge.

Of the newer console games, I'd say Wii Sports Bowling (hey, it says I'm a pro!), and Tetris DS. There was a point a few months back where I had that tetris vision going, where I'd see falling blocks everywhere. Ranking-wise, i was about 7k in the world. Not super expert, but play me and I would probably rock your world.

back in the day: Galaga (Arcade). Usually I would end up just walking away from the machine cuz I was tired of playing. Last time I recently played it at the arcade, some of the magic was still there, but I couldn't get into "the zone" like I used to. I've tried all the MAME and console versions, but it's not quite the same as playing the upright arcade game. Something about standing up with the proper joystick and button.

In addition, all the old NHL games on the Genesis.

I'm the same way with Ms. Pac Man. Played them on many systems but nothing comes close to the real thing. Your story reminds me of a similar one. Back when the Anniversary Ms. Pac/Galaga came out I gave it a run at the movie theater. I had about 45 minutes to kill before the movie started. I too had to walk away unfinished.

Goldeneye (64): Challenged multiple times in college (during its peak) easily beat everyone.
Tetris DS Online: Single-handedly responsible for an estimated 30 Japanese player suicides.
Halo: Kill ratio of 3 to 1!

Ditto with Galaga. I was once able to make the aliens stop shooting, and then I played long enough to reset the score, and I just walked away...

Now I'm down to a MultiWilliams game (Robotron, Joust, Defender, Stargate, Bubbles and Food Fight) and a Super Pacman cocktail. I still suck at Defender & Stargate. (I get distracted by Robotron, Bubbles and Joust too often!)

i'd consider myself good at many games but "master class" would be:

Mario 3
Soul Calibur 1 w/Ivy (132 wins in survival mode before finally being taken down)

Counterstrike 1.6 used to be CAL-Invite a couple years ago. Now i'm probably more like CAL-Main......I still can't really go into public servers and play without getting banned because they think i cheat. I pwn all pub nubs.

Don't you really hate when they accuse you cheating?! I have been accused cheating in Enemy Terrority, MOHAA series, Call of Duty series which I never did!

NES M.U.S.C.L.E ... no joke. Well, the game may be a big joke to most, but I rolled up some pretty mean scores back in the day. I have some old record-setting snapshots of the high score screen I never submitted to Nintendo Power. And I still like to fire up my NES and jump into the squared circle for some (very basic) wraslin' action. My favorite tag team: Muscle Man and Terry Man - in case you are wondering.

Maybe the ultimate guilty pleasure in my NES collection.

Nothing wrong with that...Pro-Wrestling for the NES was the best wrestling game for a full decade before fire-pro came out for the PS1...
