Sounds like a port to me. Take existing game, touch it up, add some new levels and features and re-release on a new system.

Take Burnout: Takedown on the 360. They took an existing game, made it prettier, added a dozen or so new boards and cars and expanded the online mode. Same exact features you mention for NG:S, would you not consider that a port?

How about all these Wii rehashes with a few new levels/functions and add Wiimote functionality. It would fall into the same category. At the core it is still a port. Doesn't matter how much they add to it, the core game is the same thing that existed on another system.

At best it is an enhanced port.

Sony pretty much killed Sega. You expect them to give Sony much of anything in terms of support? Even with the huge market share PS2 had, any exclusives seemed to go to MS or Nintendo.

"That would be silly. Why would they waste time porting a last gen game for the PS3 when they could just release a new game on both systems? I'm not discounting you, but this is the first I've heard of it as well."

Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the PS3 is a vamped up remake of the old XBox Ninja Gaiden. I have not heard anything about the new installment for the 360, but have heard loads about the PS3 remake. Check IGN if you still have doubts.

Also you should check out the screenshots and reports of the game. From the look and sounds of it they have not simply ported the game but started back from scratch on the whole design. The gameplay mechanics, characters, levels etc. are the same design but have been vastly improved upon.

The difference between remake and port can be iffy sometimes.

Take the "remake" of Resident Evil 1 on the Cube. It has better graphics, two new enemies (the running crimson zombies and Lisa), and the mansion layout is altered. Other than that, it is the same game as the PS1 original. Capcom did not even bother to update the primitive tank-like digital controls. Yet the game is widely regarded as a remake and not a port.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma will have as much, if not more, new stuff as Resident Evil "remake."

Fair enough. I've watched the videos, but still looks like a prettier version of the same game. I guess taffer has it right. It is definitely a mighty thin line between "remake" and "port." Although I think my Burnout comparison is just as solid and that is considered a port. So I guess there is an argument to be had both ways.

I won't derail the thread any furthur.

I didn't pay much attention to Resident Evil since I didn't have a Cube, but it seems more like building a completely new game using the same elements from the previous, versus taking the existing game and enhancing it with new elements.

The results can be similar I guess

This should probably be moved to a new thread, but there is definately a difference between a remake and a port. Resident Evil for the 'cube was not a port. It was a remake. If they release Kings Quest 1 for the 360 with modern graphics, but the same story, it would NOT be a port. It would be a remake.

Not really anticipating much, Bioshock and Mass Effect maybe, but I'm just going to wait for reviews before I get hyped for any games.

Being a Soul Calibur addict, I'm looking for any new version, provided Namco doesn't punish me for not owning a PS3, by releasing it only for that.

Barring that...for some reason, I think the Conan game is going to be insanely good. Everything else I'm looking forward to has already been listed here, except for NHL'08 and NHL 2k8...

Oh, and Duck Hunt for the Wii. well, any shooting-gallery style game for the wii-mote.

My Most anticipated game of 07 is definitely Halo 3. Spore would be a close second.

You'll have to be easy on me in the beginning. I've never played the game before so I have no clue what I'll be doing.

I'm getting it purely on hype from miyu. Same thing with Culdcept saga as I don't know much about it other then it is a card battle type game. I do like that genre of games.

I don't know anything about Catan either but it looks/sounds like something worth getting.
