Another blow for the diminishing line of PS3 exclusives, but really, just a smart and completely obvious business decision by Capcom. I wonder if the PC version will get games for windows branding, achievement points, and 360 controller support? ;)

Can't read the site, but I'm not surprised. I've been thinking this would happen if Capcom's other titles did well enough on the 360.

Whoa, that's sort of a shocker since that's a Japanese game and was a big PS2 exclusive (even though I never really cared much for the series). I wonder if it'll be PS3 exclusive for a while the way Virtua Fighter 5 currently is, or if it'll come out simultaneously like GTA 4.

edit : Guess it's simultaneous. Capcom must be really happy with sales of Lost Planet and Dead Rising. Good for the 360!

You actually mean Metal Gear 6. There were two Metal Gear games long before the "Solid" series. Sorry for nitpicking, but it always drives me up a wall when people act like the two older games don't exist. I have seen countless mentions of Metal Gear 2 on other forums where the person actually means Metal Gear Solid 2 and not the actual Metal Gear 2 from the early 90s. :hairpull:

My god. How many games does this make now? And I think we can all agree this is, by far, the biggest loss they've had yet (some might argue GTA, but those did all come out on Xbox eventually).

GTA definitely moved more consoles than DMC though. Just comparing the number of copies of GTA sold on PS2, compared to DMC tells the story. DMC has still been a signature Sony franchise though.

Rumor is Capcom will also be launching a trilogy set, like the PS2 version, for 360 owners.

Wow, big news for Microsoft, but I still haven't played past the second level of DMC 1. This has been the speculation for a while since Capcom's has done so well on the 360.

I don't think DMC is a system seller though.

I really wanted this for PS2 but never picked it up. I'd probably pick something like this up for 360 though. I haven't played this series at all, but i've really been wanting to. Good news! Go XBox!

Devil May Cry Triology Set on XBOX 360 is real deal. Possible upgrade graphics Plus extra is nice and MSRP around $30 or $40 ish :)

Regardless if DMC is a system seller or not, it's a huge coup for Microsoft. They continue to make "exclusives" non exclusive anymore.

My point was that GTA was never truly exclusive, since every single one came out on the original Xbox, and everyone knew GTA would come out on the 360, even if the PS3 had an exclusivity period. But DMC was one of those titles that was completely associated with the Playstation name. That's the real damage. If DMC, an established Playstation exclusive title, can go neutral, what's next? This is the first big domino that could push other developers to go neutral as well. And the more exclusives Sony lose, the worse they do, because their system is $200 more than their competition.

So <i>really</i>, what's left for HUGE exclusives? Tekken, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, God of War... Any others?

Not a big surprise, but it's good to finally have the official announcement. This just give me yet another reason to put off buying a PS3 - now I'm just waiting for the announcement about MGS4 going multi-platform.

It looks like services and functionality are the "exclusives" of the future. Each system will have it's first party games, but the real draws for each system will be the perks. Internet TV on 360, crazy Wii controls, that Home thing on PS3... the days of buying a system to be able to play one certain game are gone.

Possible MGS 4 will be on XBOX 360 and same as Soul Calibur 4. Tekken 6 is unknow ?? Also, I can't wait to see Killer Instint 3 on XBOX 360 :)

As others have said, this is a huge blow for Sony to lose one of their big "exclusives." However, I can see this happening more and more in the future. As games get bigger and development costs become more and more expensive, it just doesn't make any sense from a business standpoint not to make it multi-platform, especially if you've already got other titles out on the platform.

Well.... the exclusivity of DMC4 was going to be one of my deciding factors in purchasing a PS3 this year.

Now it's just down to whether I need a Blu-ray player or not. :hscratch:

One less reason to get a PS3.. though to be honest, Devil May Cry isn't exactly a priority franchise to me. I still think the PS3 will, in the end, have more exclusives that cater to my tastes (eventually).

Now if only God of War 3 would come out for the 360.

Never going to happen. God of War is a first party Sony-owned property.

The problem with your logic being that at the time GTA3 was a smash hit on the PS2 and building a massive fan base, there was no hint that there would be an xbox version coming out. Then, when vice city ps2 came out, the xbox version still trailed by some time, and if you're a hard core fan of the series you weren't going to wait. Even San andreas had a good amount of lead time on the ps2.

Very happy with this news. Between Dragon Quest moving to the DS (although I'm not happy with the new action-RPG direction) and DMC4 getting a 360 release, I'm finding I don't think a PS3 purchase is coming any time soon.

The problem with your logic is that the PS2 didn't cost $600. So even if GTA IV had some lead time on the PS3, everyone knew it would be coming on the 360, anyway. Would someone who had a 360 already spend another $600 to get a game a few months early? I doubt it. GTA might have decided some people who hadn't bought either system yet if it had start time on the PS3, but it wouldn't have created a mass exodus of 360 owners to the PS3. DMC is the first major (for Americans) exclusive Playstation title to go format neutral. That's a much bigger deal than GTA dropping a window. In Japan, Sony's already lost some major games, but they'll probably have enough Japanese exclusives waiting in the wings to stay afloat there. I don't think losing DMC will sink them, but if they lose too many more exclusives, while Microsoft retains theirs, it's going to be a very one-sided race.

I didn't realize inflation was so high that $300 back then is $500 now. Also, the 20 GB systems have been pretty hard to find, so most people have to spend $600 or nothing. My point is that DMC going neutral is bigger as a symbol than GTA losing an exclusivity window.

Well, you can argue all you like about the $400 plus potential cost of wireless and HDDVD vs $600.. that's been done to death. The fact is, that we've known since E3 that GTA4 would be same day PS3/360, and there's even the sniff that the 360 may have better exclusive downloads. And this is well before the PS3 launch, and even before the majority of 360s have been sold (of the current 10 million sold). I can bet if there was even a 6 month exclusive window, then that would sway most GTA fans to buying a ps3 over a 360. $200 is not a big deal for a game you have to play. And of course, if Sony had somehow pulled an exclusive on it, that would have been huge...

I'm sorry, but the worldwide sales of the DMC series of 4 million, and the worldwide sales of the GTA series of around 20 million just don't support your point. Particularly when you consider the comparatively higher percentage of GTA sales in western markets.

What has had a bigger impact, GTA or DMC? It doesn't matter, there's something bigger here then can be captured in numbers, and that is the continued trend of waining developer/publisher confidence in Sony's PS3 platform as a profititable platform.

I can see DMC4 as a better "symbol" to represent how times are changing this generation, but in terms of actual dollars and impact, i'd guess that GTA's popularity will have a bigger effect overall.
