Haven't the BC updates been separate from the Dash updates?

Took it to the UPS Store...I'm guessing it'll be at least 2 weeks until I see it returned? Do they typically just repair yours, or send you a known working one so they can get it back to you? |
the hardest part was getting my box. they kept cancelling it for some reason. I sent mine in on 3/30 and just got the refurb in today.

Lame. Give me a damn digital QWERTY keyboard already. What? |
When you go to type a text message to someone on your friends list, the keyboard layout is A-Z with a number pad on the right.
At least Nintendo got it right with the Wii. Much easier to message someone. |

I have a USB keyboard for my 360, but it won't allow me to use it to type text messages while in the dashboard

I recently got a wired Xbox 360 controller to use for my PC games.. I'm glad to be free of the poor PS2 controller and overall I really love it, but the thing painfully cramps the living hell out of my hands after extended use. I did not experience this with the Xbox S controller and they're so similar. Does anybody else get this.. at least initially (tell me I'll grow into it at least)? Oh yeah.. rumble doesn't work on any of my games since it uses DirectInput drivers instead of DirectX (at least, that's what I read elsewhere). Lame.
|
I've been using my Xbox360 pad on my PC for Gametap for a while now (And now that there are Saturn games (well, game, Bug! is the only one on there thus far), all the better). Haven't had any hand cramping issues myself, though it may be that it's even smaller than the S controller and maybe contorting your hands a little.

I do pretty much all messaging and friend requests from xbox.com. I usually have my laptop near me while gaming (to look at faqs or whatnot, if I'm stuck) and if someone messages me, I can shoot them a message back through xbox.com a hell of a lot faster than using a digital keyboard, or even this new controller/keyboard thing they have coming out.

I think it's funny how those who dismiss the usefulness of having web browsing capabilities on a game console (because after all that is what PCs are for) are all "oh yeah, w00t!" about the new messaging features.

I've been actually having some hand cramping issues recently with the 360 controller. I need to take a few more breaks than I normally would.

From Major Nelson Later today, a Gears of War auto update is going to be available. I am not sure of the exact time, but here are some of the details of what the AU contains: In Annex, gamers seize victory by keeping control over key map locations, or objectives, long enough to collect a winning number of points. Every map contains two to five identified objectives available for capture, with one objective active at a time. Objectives are based on map weapon-spawn locations and have a potential value of 60 points toward either team's score. Teams collect those points by maintaining ownership of an objective until all 60 points have been distributed. Every second that a team controls an objective, the team gets one point. When an objective falls to zero points, the next objective is selected at random. And while defending their objectives against the onslaught of Xbox LIVE opponents, gamers may notice the following minor adjustments to "Gears of War": VGA Cable Support: Monitor resolution widths greater than or equal to 1280 now render as letterbox. In particular VGA users running at 1280x1024 will now see the game in full 720p (1280x720) resolution in letterboxed form. Adjusted Assassination Multiplayer Gametype: Leader no longer has to unlock weapons and now has to be executed to die. Adjusted Boomshot: Splash damage to be more effective rendering targets down-but-not-out Adjusted Hammer of Dawn: Aiming will be more forgiving of moving targets Adjusted Roadie Run: Reduced frequency of accidently grabbing cover while running Kill Message Ticker: Ticker can now be seen while down-but-not-out and spectating General: Addressed a number of possible exploits in multiplayer Hit www.gearsofwar.com for further details. Again: I don’t know the exact time the AU will be released, but I’ll try to post a comment (or get e to do so) when it does go Live. Edit: Remember, this is a rolling release. That means that it will take a few hours for everyone to get the prompt once we start rolling it out. |
yea!
hopefully i'm into it |

What? Being able to type a little message on a QWERTY keyboard isn't the same as browsing. Just like wii folks don't want online play, I don't want to web browse on my console. ;) |

I haven't found any use for web browsing on the Wii, with it being a bit clunky and not very efficient to do anything that I would want to use it for. For those that use MSN messenger, i think it's a neat little thing to allow others to see you're playing a game, and send a quick IM here and there to friends, or even say "hey i'm playing Gears! Turn on your XBox and join in!" Not sure how the two are related. |
Gears update is now scheduled to be released at 7:00 p.m. EST

Those look like some much needed improvements for GOW. Although they missed "anyone with alx in gamer tag cannot use chainsaw" and "anyone with docter in gamer tag cannot use shotgun" patches.

Does anyone remember the Atari Jaguar controller?

Well, the same argument can be used for MSN messenger. Just because you can construct a scenario to support how useful MSN messenger can be doesn't invalidate the "that is what a PC is for" argument used against a web browser. Don't get me wrong... I'm all for MSN Messenger capabilities! I just found it funny that those who poo-poo'ed a web browser for some dopey reason are cheering the addition of messenger even though that dopey reason applies to that too. ------------------- The sole reason why Microsoft will not and never add a web browser to the 360 is because MS' business model for the 360 requires extremely tight control over use of the 360. Add a flash-capable web browser on par or exceeding the Opera browser on the Wii and MS loses significant control. MS would no longer have exclusive control over the media we can access on the 360. It would enable competitors to rudimentary Arcade-style capabilities. |
