Picked up Tetris. Hopefully I will see some of you online this weekend. How is it? I didn't get a chance to pop it in yet.

xmiyux 03-23-07 07:11 AM

Yeah, it is pretty good. The video of a the snowy mountain combined with the pseudo classical music is way mellow. :)

KurrptSenate 03-23-07 07:36 AM

the leveling up in Virtua Tennis 3 is so fun. I think the mini-games have improved greatly

xmiyux 03-23-07 07:38 AM

So is there a big release in April? I've been wondering what i need to be saving for next and previously thought Shadowrun was April and i guess it is more June. So anything cool in April or May?

KurrptSenate 03-23-07 07:39 AM

Guitar Hero 2 comes out in like 2 weeks

A couple of interesting things may hit in May:

So has Microsoft finally just abandoned backwards compatibility?

RichC2 03-23-07 09:12 AM

I don't think so, though now that Sony has seemingly jumped ship they may lessen the already lacking support.

That's a pretty sweet deal! I guess it'll be verified when Speedy posts the circular later this week. I had planned on picking it up at BB to get RZ points, but this is a much better deal.

Microsoft Admits Xbox 360 Blu-Ray Support Possible

Although the eventuality has been hinted at before, Xbox UK head Neil Thompson has stated again that if the Blu-ray format becomes significantly more successful than the HD-DVD format then the company will support it with the Xbox 360.

Speaking to the BBC, Thompson is quoted as saying: “Whatever format wins it is highly likely we will offer a solution. The only debate is if you want to watch Blu-ray movies and pay the extra money for that feature. We prefer to offer the consumer choice."

Microsoft is known to greatly favor the HD-DVD format, although most assume that an unwillingness to support a Sony-sponsored format has played a significant part in this decision. As such, the Xbox 360’s HD-DVD drive has become the cheapest way to obtain a HD-DVD movie player.

Microsoft has always denied plans to release games on the HD-DVD format and this would presumably also follow for any potential Blu-ray drive. Recent data has suggested that cumulative sales of Blu-ray discs have surpassed those for HD-DVD for the first time, with Blu-ray outselling the HD-DVD format discs by a margin of more than 2-to-1.

Yeah, they've said that before. It's good business sense.

You'll never ever in a million years hear Sony say "If Blu-Ray fails, HD DVD is definitely possible."

Draven 03-23-07 01:23 PM

And that's why I'm a much bigger Microsoft fan this generation.

I know what you mean but that's not really a fair comparison. Sony developed Blu-Ray themselves. Microsoft backs HD-DVD but had no part in its creation.

Sure it's fair. Sony could have offered up the console for $400 and then Blu-Ray for $200. But no, they were more interested in forcing the format instead of giving the gaming community options.

Right...but that has nothing to do with what I was talking about. If Microsoft had created HD-DVD themselves you would never hear that statement from them. They have nothing to lose going with either format. Why would Sony say they would adopt HD-DVD when they are the main developers behind its competition? I don't think you'll hear from the DVD Forum that they'll adopt and accept Blu-Ray if it wins.

Sure it is. Microsoft is saying "if this format fails we'll make it happen so that you can use the winning format". If Blu Ray fails, Sony will just continue to hype it and not do anything for their customer base.

Gromit 03-23-07 01:50 PM

I wonder how many people who were considering a PS3 for it's Blu-Ray capabilities will hold off due to this announcement?

I understand, but again Microsoft didn't develop HD-DVD. They have no reason to care which format wins. Why would Sony say anything at this point to make it sound like their own format is failing?

Isn't Microsoft a big backer of HD-DVD?

This whole format war is so stupid. I want to get an HD addon for my 360, but more movies are going to Blu-Ray lately that I'd want to get. But the last thing I want is a PS3, so I'm forced to just kind of wait and see what happens.

Maybe the dual-format players will drop in price this winter to make the decision easy for me.

Noonan 03-23-07 02:58 PM

They are a major backer but had nothing to do with the development. Worst case for them is they lose some money which is probably the last thing Microsoft is worried about since their pockets are so deep. Microsoft saying they would adopt Blu-Ray if HD fails is like Samsung saying they would release a HD-DVD player if Blu-Ray fails. They are a backer but didn't develop the technology.

I own both and still feel that it makes no difference which one wins. I just want one format with full studio support. They are both amazing.

Unrelated questions...what do you all think about Microsoft releasing a black controller separately if the "Elite" package does turn out to be true? I'd buy a black controller for sure.

Draven 03-23-07 03:05 PM

Me personally, I've never cared what color my controller (or console is, for that matter.)

I might try to mod my Xbox 360 case, but that's the computer case modder in me.

Josh H 03-23-07 03:17 PM

Decent deal. Premium with Gears of War for $400.

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=A1118814

Still dissappointed about the news, as I can't bring myself to shell out more than $250-300 tops for a game console and it looks like there's no price drop coming anytime soon.

Oh well, decided to spend the couple of Amazon GCs I was hoarding in case of a price drop this spring on the Seasons 1-5 DVD set of 24.

Mok 03-23-07 04:10 PM

I was just at Best Buy and they had Rainbow Six Vegas on sale for $39.99 for anyone who is interested.

argh923 03-23-07 04:31 PM

How much will Guitar Hero 2 retail for?
