I agree. I thought they had the difficulty pretty well balanced. The thing you have to do though is manage your weapons and ammo. I need to play this game again. I have the Chicago Typewritter unlocked and it would be fun to blow through it again.

I think the difficulty of the boss battles and regular enemies etc. is fine, there's just a few trial and error places that have had me want to chuck the wavebird through the TV. :D

The managing weapons and ammo annoys the piss out of me. It made sense in the past games which were survival horror and you could just run around a lot of enemies. With the emphasis now on killing everything they should have done away with all the ammo rationing IMO. Either keep it survival horror, or make it a full on action game. It just feels stuck in limbo in between to me.

I played most of the way through with the Chicago Typewriter...and it really wasn't as much fun as you'd think. It's about the equivalent of the infinite rocket launcher in the first RE...just wayyyy too powerful.

gimmepilotwings 03-13-07 10:10 AM

One of the best things about RE is the limited ammo IMO. When you have to ration your bullets, it makes you use the knife, or shoot them in the head, etc.

I think the lack of bullets and its storyline is what separates it from other 3rd person shooters.

Josh H 03-13-07 10:26 AM

That's true, the series has just never really been my cup of tea. I'm liking RE4 much more than past games, but I don't think it's going to win me over totally in the long run.

I'd rather play something like Gears were you don't have to manage ammo and can just shoot the shit out of everything.

KurrptSenate 03-13-07 10:28 AM

im with ya on that one

I agree. You've got a small group of notzombies coming at you, and you know you could just take them out with your shotgun, but you also want to save your shotgun for the next boss...what to do?

It adds a little sense of dread and/or regret (if you use your best ammo) that I really enjoy in a game.

Josh H 03-13-07 10:36 AM

Yeah, I hate that sense of dread.

It sucks to finally beat a boss and then think "well maybe I used too much ammo and should reset and start again." :(

I'm pretty much just at a point where I'm going to stop worrying about it so much and if I end up stuck because of not having enough ammo I'll just quit.

Jeremy517 03-13-07 10:52 AM

Tip relating to ammo:
Spoiler:
When you upgrade your gun's capacity, it fills it up. Upgrade when your gun needs reloading.

I had basically a suitcase full of ammo left when I finished because I had been a little too conservative with it.

Josh H 03-13-07 11:08 AM

Yeah, I notice that early on and have been taking advantage of it.

The 'new' Best Buy at 'The Rim' up I-10 still has many. As long as they keep opening new locations around town I think it will still be possible to find the cards.

I've only ever played one Resident Evil game, that being that Codename Veronica one on the PS2, and I ran into the same issue. I was just starting to get really into the game, having finally gotten used to the awkward tank-like controls, and realized that I had used way too much ammo and couldn't really get past this one part because of it (having not played a Resident Evil game previously, I really didn't know conserving ammo was such an issue). At that point, I knew that I would need to start over and play differently to get further in the game. Needless to say, I haven't played it since.

drmoze 03-13-07 03:37 PM

Has anyone picked up Tiger Woods yet? And played it as a simulation? (i.e., using a realistic golf swing, as opposed to the one-handed swoop that EA actually put out in a promo video!) If so, how does it respond? Can you play it "like real golf"?

dick_grayson 03-13-07 03:39 PM

I was at BB and Gamestop today and both said they'd arrive tomorrow.

KurrptSenate 03-13-07 03:49 PM

well, maybe at that place...

then again, they get shipped last on the totem pole, under places like wal-mart, CC, BB, etc.

If wal-mart doesnt have it, they should at midnight

Sweet. The new one at 1604 & 281 finally got rid of them so it looks like I need to go make a run there to grab a few more. At $15 for 2000 points the VC games are a lot less painful to buy.

I picked up two at the Rim on Sunday...but I can't find anything to download...maybe Bonk.

They didn't have any a few hours ago though.

Well, I just had my wow moment with the Wii.

I don't actually own one (and probably won't get one for another 10-12 months), by my mother called me up over the weekend and asked about it. Apparently, she wants to get one: this coming from a 60 year old asian lady who never had interest in any video games whatsoever prior. Apparently, her older sister (around 70) has already been playing Wii Tennis and uses it as "exercise".

I realize these kinds of stories have been popping up before, but it really doesn't hit ya until it happens :).

That is such a great story. It's amazing the way the Wii has been embraced by those who've never played videogames before. :)

See, what's great about this is that Nintendo actually makes on profit on the Wii sale alone. That means they never have to sell these people another piece of software or accessory to break even. Anything they buy (like Wii Sports 2 with Online Play) is bonus.

They don't have to play catch up with licensing and software attach rates to be profitable.

Nintendo makes profit on the Wii, sure. Refreshing game play, sure. Competitive pricing, sure. Novelty, sure... I got few enjoyable moments from my Wii among family members, but the initial excitement is no longer there... Wii sport is still cool, but hardly anybody is playing with it in the family! I enjoyed boxing until i find out the freaking control sucks. So the only two sports i enjoy at the moment is bowling and basaeball (batting pratice only).

What i and the family enjoy more now is the PS3, movies (Casino Royale in BR, sd dvds in component mode), huge library of PS2 games, game graphic of the next generation console...

My Wiimote finally ran out of batteries (the ones come with the system) and i haven't replace them since... Zelda TP just have to wait (sigh, i still perfer a regular control for this game). Raving Rabbit is collecting dust, all of the other Wii games suck. Waiting for those new Wii Mario games, that's pretty much the next time the Wii will be on.

What exactly does this have to do with the fact that by selling a Wii to a 60 or 70 year old woman who is perfectly satisfied with Tennis or Bowling on Wii Sports results in a profit for Nintendo?

shumway 03-14-07 11:37 AM

There is a library of good GC games you can play on your Wii as well, not as mammoth or with as many AAA titles as the PS2 though. I hardly get to play the Wii, but, my kids are playing the hell out of Zelda, Excite Truck, Wii Play, and my 3 year old can't get enough of Baseball on Sports. Hell my almost 5 year old daughter just started playing Boxing and really likes it.
