I'm just not getting the love for Excite Truck. Played about an hour of it today and my opinion of it from the demo is unchanged. It is simply one of the worst racing games I have ever played. I will grant that the designers knew the controls would be sloppy and tried to build a game around that mechanic, but IMO they failed. If Sonic controls anything like Excite Truck I have zero interest in it and any other motion control games. That stupid cow racing game in Wii Play controls better than Excite Truck to me.

How are the controls bad in Excite Truck? I've never had a problem at all. Are you holding the controller flat with the buttons facing up and tilting the sides towards the ground to turn?

It depends on how you mean 'controls badly'. I will fully admit it doesnt' control like Gran Turismo or Need for Speed or even Speed Devils (which I loved). It's an incredibly unrealistic, 'loose', overcompensating type of racing game. If someone is into or is used to racing sims or whatever (I'm not sure if you are), I can see how they might not like it. I'm not a huge racing game fan. I liked Speed Devils and Road Rash and Rock and Roll Racing and Virtua Racing, so you see where I'm coming from. I think ET is fun, and accessible.

Nope, just another minigame collection, no interest in those on my consoles. I'd rather just pick up the DS version if I had an urge to play it.

I showed my wife the video for that on Gamespot, and she expressed an interest in it.
I am not a 'portable gamer', I don't have a venue for using a portable machine, so that's not an option for me.

My kids and I like playing Cooking Mama on DS. My wife has expressed an interest in playing it on Wii. If it is value priced, I will almost definitely pick it up. If not, I'll wait for a price drop or used copies to circulate.

Also, I would say that the vast majority of my DS play is at home as well. I find it much easier to be wary of my surroundings, ie, my kids when playing portable rather than when playing a console.

I don't understand your complaints for bad controls either. I just rented this game (still have it) and found it very fun. The controls seem fine to me. I'm not a racing-game fan (GT, NFS, etc.) so maybe that's why, but I found this game to be really fun and the controls worked great for me.

I'll have to chalk it up as one not for me. I held the controller correctly, but never at any time felt in control of the vehicle or had any fun playing the game. To be fair I also hated the MotoStorm demo with the Sony tilt control. At least with that one its optional.

I told my wife not to get the DS version of Cooking Mama because the Wii version will have a two player mode. We've both graduated from a culinary school, never cook at home and yet we are both very excited about a game where we virtually cook and compete against each other. It's a mixture of sad and funny.

The major problem I had with Cooking Mama for the DS is that you didn't get REAL recipes. What a great bonus it would have been if you master the recipe, and then it gives you the actual ingredient amounts and directions. As it stood you ended up just doing pretty much the same motion over and over and over again, for very little payoff since all the recipes you unlock don't mean anything.

I didn't think much of the control of Excite Truck when I tried the demo, but it looked like it could be fun. I ended up buying it, and after initially thinking I made a mistake...I discovered the controls were pretty spot on once I got used to it. And the trucks really do handle differently. Some are really loose, others more responsive. Now I can catch crazy air, do spins and 5 star drifts with ease.

Have you tried different trucks? You might want to give it some more time.

To the poster who mentioned Speed Devils One of my favorite Dreamcast games!!!

If I want a realistic feeling driving I'll hop in my car and go somewhere.

The reviews kind of have me scared on that one. Then again, it is ranked slightly higher right now than Excite Truck on metacritic and the whole family has enjoyed that one. I think I'll hold off for awhile though. I already have more games for the Wii than I have for any other system after only owning it for 3 months.

I am impressed that IGN gives it props for finally having better than Gamecube graphics. This is the first review for any Wii game that I've read to mention that.

Has the novelty of the Miis worn off on everyone by now? I hardly check my parade anymore, partly because it's so overrun that it's time to start culling them and I just don't feel like going through that extra effort.

It took about 2-3 weeks for it to wear off on me. It's just not very interesting.

I don't believe I've checked it in a month. I filled my address book with DVDtalk folk and once I did that I was basically over it.

I got sick of it after about 2 weeks and quit checking and updating my friends list from the thread here etc. Pretty pointless like all the channels...but their free so not a gripe. I just don't bother using them.

The novelty of the Wii has worn off for me totally. To be fair it's mainly due to the normal post launch game drought than anything to do with the Wii.

But I am a bit underwhelmed by the motion controls thus far as I haven't had as much fun with them as I expected (though this could just be due to the crappy current game selection) and I'm disappointed that true 1:1 motions don't appear to be possible with the technology.
