Xbox 360 Wireless Headset - Impressions Needed
I recently busted my wired headset so I decided to try the wireless one out.. My first impressions were that it was supa comfy and easy to configure.. I could hear the person I was playing with clearly (alxreys) and he said he said he could hear me good too..
As we were playing though he said he started to hear me breaking up. I'm now debating on whether or not to take it back.
For the record, I was hosting (Rainbow 6) and it was just the two of us. There was no lag whatsoever..
Just wondered what everyone else's experiences were..

Well I was alone in my living room with only the 360 on so I don't think that was a problem.. So you've never had people tell you that you're cutting out?

I've heard people sound I sound "weird" before. This has happened on handful of occasions. 9 times out of 10, a simple mute, un-mute did the trick.
I've heard others on live have some static breakup as well. Most of the time, they don't realize it. Once they are told, it seems to take care of the problem right away

A friend of mine has the wireless and he sounds like crap when we play with him. Staticy a lot of the time.

People that have it love it
People that play with people that have it hate it because it breaks up all the time, and there's a delay when people start speaking, cutting them off when they start.

My friend recently got the wireless headset. His previous headset (wired) was totally screwed up, and it would always cut out. With the wireless, I can definitely tell that its different from the regular headset. Its nothing bad, it just sounds like it picks up a lot of sound. The best way I can describe it is that it sounds like he's on a phone while driving in the car. Compared to how bad his previous wired headset was, his wireless one sounds great. And to echo what you've already said, tbird, he loves how comfortable it is as well.

I just bought a USED one and I have no idea how to set it up since it didn't come with a manual. I tried it when I was playing R6:Vegas but can't hear anything from the headset. :-(
Do I have to set a setting on the dashboard tp tell the 360 that I have this device?
It is supposed to be the same channel as the wireless controller that I am using?

I believe there are instructions on xbox.com but basically you just use the little connect button on the front of the console with the headset exactly the same way you connect controllers.

nah bro. When you push the button on the headset (hold, and you'll see flashing lights) you need to hit the connect button on your console.
thats the tiny little circle button to the right of the disc drive

impression = SUCKS!
me and a friend both picked these up a few weeks ago....
followed the instructions as far as "connection" goes,
and could not get the headset to connect!
finally, i was able to get it to connect through a brand
new wireless controller, that had never been connected to
my xbox before...
somehow, the headset would not connect to a wireless controller
that had been previously used w/ a wired headset...?
does that make sense?
my buddy had the exact same issues...
we tried everything to get it to work,
after 3 calls to m$ft (and by the way, on one of the calls,
their tech support didnt even know that they carried a "wireless" headset.!
go figure....(their website doesnt even list it as an accessory yet)
anyhow-
long story longer,
returned both units, big headache,
done- spend your money on a game!
but if you cant resist- be sure to keep your original wired set closeby,-
you'll need it when the 4 hour batt life drains only after a couple
sessions of GOW-!
also, besides all that-
i'm still falling back to the "wired" headset, also because its alot easier to "mute" during gameplay, can keep both hands on the controller- instead
of having to reach up to your ear to mute.

it's SO simple to connect.
there's absolutely nothing i can say as of now, except when i have to charge it, that i don't like about it.
i've had it since day one, and use it every day.

actually what was happening was my controller would connect to my
#1 port on my console,
and when i would try to connect the headset, it wouldnt allow me
to also connect it to that same #1 port..
on the headset itself, when i would push the button to "change ports",
it would skip that #1 port (that already had a controller connected to it)
..its not that we didnt know what we were doing,
like i said, i got it to work,
there just seems to be a glitch for whatever reason,
with either the headsets themselves, or my console in assigning
both the headset, and controller to the same port.
i'm gonna give these a try:
Turtle Beach X2 wireless headphones
they transmit game audio & also your gaming chat...
they are a little bulky, but worth a shot.

These look pretty cool, I may have to pick up a pair as well! Living in an apartment it's hard and having a decent surround system with a sub, it's hard to find a good balance of volume, especially at night. These look like they may work nicely!
The review on IGN seems promising... Although you have to remain in clear sight of the base station and the mic has to be wired to the controller to work.

This may show some of the problems people are having sinking the headset up.

I'm not sold on the need for the wireless headset. The controller is wireless. Connecting the wired headset to the controller doesn't really restrict my ability to move around, since I'm holding the controller in my hand while playing.

true, and people complaining about the added hiss and such. Also the above video has me concerned, maybe if it was cheaper but i would rather just buy another game and not have to worry about the battery going dead while extended periods of play.

that video says it all,
i did the exact same thing- went and bought another controller-
headset connected just fine,
but it would not connect w/ my existing controller-
and M$ft doesnt seem to care.
i dont have any issues otherwise, and am really happy w/ my 360-
oh, and:
KurrptSenate
Michael Corvin
im_ryandick
maybe you three got lucky with the units you bought?, or maybe
you bought new controllers at the same time?,
or maybe you never even tried to setup one of these, and just going by what others have said?,
but i was not making stuff up, and i have no problem
handling electronics, and these types of things.....
anyhow- maybe M$sft will do something about it?
but now really kinda see this headset as not something that
i'd buy either way, only because of its design (mute button, short batt life)
