Final Fantasy 9
Some people didn't like it but I thought this was the best final fantasy game I played for this system. Fantastic cutscenes, I got pretty choked up at the ending.

Somewhat related... but why aren't any of these PS1 games kept in print?
All of the Sony consoles are backward compatible with each other, so that shouldn't be an issue. CDs and DVDs are dirt cheap to replicate, as opposed to the old ROM cartridges, so a lot of these games could be kept in print without much trouble.
There are a lot of PS1 games that sell for quite a bit on the aftermarket (Symphony of the Night, Parasite Eve), and you also have games that are parts of series... Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy ... so it just seems kind of strange that there isn't any effort to keep these games available. Especially when the current consoles (PS, XBOX) are all backward compatible with the older models.

DVD Talk Hall of Fame
There is a company that acquires the publishing rights to some of these older OOP games and then does limited re-releases of them, but in the end it comes down to shelf space. No one wants to stock games that are more than a few years old. Stores like Wal-Mart and Best Buy especially, but even Gamestop/EB has gotten rid of their PSX/N64 games. It's too bad that games can't be like movies and just stick around forever, but I guess that doesn't work, or the people in charge don't think it works.

ohh man PS1 games.. brings back memories.. lets see here.. gotta think a minute.. not sure i can remember all the good PS1 titles i used to play
Twisted Metal 2, a MUST have.. best in the series in my opinion
FFVII and Tactics.. everyone says IX is great.. maybe i should play it but stay away from VIII! lol
Need for Speed hehe.. i remember my friend and i would use the code to get the secret car and run into each other at top speed and watch the cars flip and crash around lol good stuff
lets see here...
Metal Gear Solid, love the series but i played Sons of Liberty first so this MGS wasnt as good to me but still good nonetheless
Beyond the Beyond, great first gen PS1 RPG thats alot like older FF titles but its so rare.. i used to have it and now factory sealed copies go for $130.. its 2 or 3 discs long.. i was able to find a used copy for $50.. what kinda condition its in when i get it is yet to be seen
Crash Bandicoot series
Musashi haha.. a little ninja guy that runs around and kills things and jumps around... 3D platform type of game but its fun as i remember
Spyro!! i love Spyro games, especially Spyro 3.. its kinda a kids game but its so much fun
Resident Evil 1 and 2
Gran Turismo
Andretti Racing.. if you like that kinda thing
Discworld, definately a niche game.. no fighting.. you just wander all over the Discworld as a wizard searching for items to advance the story... its definately not for everyone but i liked it.. if you like monty python, its a funny game with that kind of humor (voices from monty python as well, eric idle does the main character) but its not action.. also a very rare early PS1 game.. if you think you'll like that, check out Blazing Dragons which is similar.. purely puzzle games with humor
Destruction Derby, also an early PS1 game thats kinda rare.. but its fun for awhile lol
if you like bowling, Ten Pin Alley is decent
Warhawk, also a first gen PS1 game... you fly around killing stuff in this futuristic "Warhawk" craft... aerial combat game... its very cool and very good cutscenes and some humor as well.. however this game is rare and its very hard even on the normal difficulty.. one of the few games i havent been able to beat, its just too hard towards the end but maybe you'll have better luck with it
Critical Depth.. from the makers of twisted metal, only with submarines.. its alright
Xtreme Games .. also a first gen PS1 game (ive been a PS fan since the beginning as u can tell lol)... u can basically be a skateboarder, biker, luger or roller blader.. you race courses against 15 other people who you have to punch and kick to knock them down into things that make funny noises (especially mailboxes lol) and try to finish first.. get points and money for equipment upgrades... graphics arent great but its fun.. you get the most out of this game if you have someone to play against though.. if you think noises and sounds are funny, you gotta get this game cuz it'll make you hysterical.. play on the hardest modes!
anyways there i go talking too much again

There was this game where you made traps to kill people. Can't recall the name but damn was it fun chainnig traps together for crazy kills. One of the few games that let you play as a bad guy.

MMm, Playstation 1, RPGs galore! The only kind of PS1 games I still play, really.
I hate FF8, but I'd agree on FF7, FF9. Personally I loved Dragon Warrior VII but I'd a Dragon Quest geek.
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete would be my other favorite PS1 game.
Castlevania SOTN is good, I agree, but I prefer the DS Castlevanias with the map screen. I got so tired of backtracking around and getting lost in SOTN.
I only played about 10 hours of them, but Tales of Destiny 1/2 are very good action/RPG hybrids.

This and Xenogears were probably my two my favorite RPG's on the PS1.
Add Final Fantasy Tactics, Castlevania SotN and Valkyrie Profile and that would be my top 5.
