Aw man, this is so confusing. I thought the $99 adapter would fix my problem, but I still need a router? What is the purpose of the adapter?

well, you could go straight into your 360, hard wired, and you wouldn't need the adapter.

The wireless adapter is for reading a wireless signal, from a wireless router. Unlike the Wii, the 360 doesn't have one of those adapters built in, hence the need for the purchase, if you want to connect it in that fashion

I would but my modem/computer is far away from my tv/xbox. So is my only other option to get a wireless router/adapter?

you need a router to "share" your broadband signal with your PC(s) and 360.

I use a netgear wireless router that is hooked up to the modem behind my TV. My xbox and 360 are hard-wired to it, and my PC and laptop (and soon Wii) connect wirelessly to it.

(Actually, this isn't the case anymore. I have temporarily switched to qwest DSL and the modem that I received with it is also a wireless router, so I bypass the netgear router and connect the xbox and 360 directly to it)

Another price heads-up (Also from CAG...but may still be a rumor)

Thursday-Sunday (?) this week at Best Buy:

Viva Pinata $29.99
College Hoops 2K7 $29.99

(don't forget the gamer's gift card to save an additional $5)

Thanks for the heads up on Pinata. Just bought this weekend at CC. Will probably return and re-buy with a pricematch.

Ok, so let me get this straight. For me to go Live, I need to get a wireless router and hook it up to my modem and get the adapter for my Xbox to connect to the router? Sorry for all the questions, I'm definately a newbie when it comes to this.

haha, well you don't HAVE to. You either hard wire it, or you do the wireless bit. If you want to do the wireless bit, you need a wireless adapter.

Or get a wired router, hook that up to your modem and run a wire to your Xbox.

The Xbox wireless adapter is the $99 piece, im assuming? I wish I could hardwire it to save money but my computer/modem is a good 20 feet from my tv and I'm gonna end up moving the 360 upstairs to play in the long run so my best bet might be to get a $50 wireless router from best buy and the $100 adapter unless im missing something. Also, KurrptSenate, I'm still questioning whether I'm gonna get the system itself, thats why I haven't sent the paypal yet. Sorry, I'm just hoping to get this online thing down before I get it.

Even if you don't have an HDTV, look for component inputs in an SDTV. I only started using the component inputs after I found some Monster cables on clearance for $9 at WM. The TV itself wasn't more than $225 (27") although there is only 1 set of component IN. The picture is really nice and clear with my DVD player or 360.

Nice, so you did the same thing I'm planning on doing Kurrpt? Doesn't the Premium package come with a component cord? I'm not sure if my TV has an input for it.

you have to make sure your TV has the Red, green, and blue for video. The premium comes with those, and the normal composite cables, in the same cord

But yea, I did exactly what you are doing now. I just got my 360 like 3 months ago, so im relatively new to the whole thing

I guess if I didn't have an input for that, I could always take it to play on my moms hi-def tv. She has a network set-up in her house but I would still need the adapter, right? Can you play the 360 games in widescreen on a ws tv?

I wouldnt bother with going wireless to get online. Just unhook your cable modem from your pc and take it to the Xbox, takes 10 seconds.

yea, of course.

The adapter is pretty sweet, id say. Clips right on the back, and setup is a breeze. i didnt want to switch the modem around anymore, so 100 seemed reasonable to me. Im a friggin cheap arse, so I thought I did pretty good

Yeah, same here. I would just hate to keep unhooking the modem and digging up the cable wire from under the carpet to take it to the xbox. Do you have a hi-def tv Kurrpt? Also, do you get a free tenure to use xbox live when you get the system?

yea, everyone does, for one month...

I actually figured out how to get that free month indefintely, you just have to make a new handle every month, which wouldn't appeal to a lot of people.

I actually have an EDTV, which means it has component inputs, but tops out out 480p. I bought the Phillips at Wal-Mart for like 500 over a year ago, so i cant complain (flat screen type tube)

I ultimately made the switch because my girl would whine about missing her "days of our lives" from me either forgetting to unhook the modem, or forgetting to re-insert the cable into her VCR

Lol, thats funny. Hopefully this Friday I can get in on that $100 gift card deal at TRU and get a couple games (GOW and WWE) with it then buy those three games from you if you still have them. I will have a $200 gift card for Best Buy after X-Mas that I can use to get a wireless adapter and wireless router and I have about $25 credit at EB that I can use towards an extra controller. I hope I'm not forgetting anything.

nope, thats about everything.

I purchased one of those USB cameras + year of LIVE service off ebay for 60 bucks shipped. It gave me the year of live (retails for 50), a headset (retails for 20) and UNO and robotron for free. It basically gave me the USB camera for free, and an extra head set

That sounds pretty cool. How is UNO played on the xbox? Also, I just got home to check the back of my tv and there is no red, green, and blue just the basic A/V, however, my DVR/Cable Box has the red, green, blue. Is there anyway I can run the 360 component cord through that?

UNO is pretty straight forward, but i like it more than the real game. Less mess. no shuffleing, etc.

It works with the USB camera as well
