PS3 compatibility issues?

Hopefully someone can help me out.

I just got my PS3 hooked up today, and when I try to boot of God Of War or Shadow Of Colossus (These are the only 2 PS2 games I have), the screen just flickers. Nothing ever comes up.

I can boot the PS3 game Resistance with no issues.

I have my PS3 connected via HDMI to a JVC 56 HDILA with 1080P output.

Liver N Onions....HELP!

Evil, I wonder if your TV or system is having a problem switching resolutions. The flickering sounds like it's the TV trying to go to 480p.

it'll initially be in 480i - God of War includes a 480p option which should be enabled once you hit the options menu. But yeah, it sounds like his TV isn't quite up to the resolution which is unfortunate.

I don't see how the TV wouldn't be able to project 480i, though.

then maybe that's the problem. if it can't accept a 480i input.

Who knows - could be a different problem altogether. Is your FW 1.31?

That's a good point, perhaps the TV can't accept 480i over HDMI. Try switching to component, Evil, see if that changes anything.

In theory my TV can accept all signals including 480i. According to the manufacture specs.

Last night I hooked up the PS3 using the plain composite cables (yuck), and booted up the PS2 games. They would play this way with no issues, but they looked horrible.

I do not have a set of component cables for the PS3, but I will be checking Target out as soon as they are open.

Question - Can I achieve 1080P with component cables?

For video games, yes, but only if your TV accepts a 1080p input over component. However, if it's truly a 1080p display, it may deinterlace a 1080i signal anyway.

The component cables worked! Everything is working smooth now. And yes, the TV upscales the 1080i signal to 1080p!

Loving Resistance.......

Also getting the chance to play some older games. I haven't had a Playstation for about 4 years.
