The one and only PS3 (and Wii) eBay madness thread!

The PS3 thread is pretty much all eBay talk, making it useless for anyone that wants info or discussion on the actual console, so it seemed a good idea to have a separate thread for eBay discussion.

I sit back and have fun every day watching the Ebay madness...It is truly a sight to see all the auctions ending with no bidders, watching the feature auctions (that cost $100 a pop to list) end with no bidders is especially exciting to watch!

Yeah this was a big bubble that popped. The hype was ridiculous and, as expected by many of us, the prices dropped appreciably very quickly.

One has to wonder if you take profit-seekers/resellers out of the equation if Sony would have even sold all of their initial launch consoles. I still say $500-$600 is a chunk of change that most can't/won't justify.

If Sony continues to stock stores with some consoles it isn't inconceivable that eBay prices will remain low. There may be a slight increase leading up to the final days before Christmas as parents panic or something.

I certainly hope so! People will always be scalping consoles nowdays, but seeing how its backfiring on them is entertainment to me I had no idea it cost $100 to make your auction a featured auction. Thats great!

And yet some sellers still haven't got the hint. One PS3 just listed (with 2 games) for a Buy It Now price of $3000 and no option to bid.

And then there's this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/PS3-Playstation-...QQcmdZViewItem
PS3 Playstation 3 60GB Complete Bundle 12 Games Buy Now
Starting bid:US $5,497.00 (no bids)
Buy It Now price: US $6,999.00

So not only have they jacked up the price to ridiculous amounts even beyond the hype, but they are forcing a bundle on top of it. So in addition to paying an extreme inflation (say $3000) on the system, you'd be paying another $2500 (and that's just the bid) to get $720 worth of games (and it looks like the HDMI cable as well... but still) that are still readily available at most retailers, and likely getting games you don't want.

And talk about 'clever' piggybacking off the PS3 name...

ill make about 800-1200 on my two, so I'm not worried.

My fiancee was actually asking about those people that have their starting bids at astronomical proportions. I devised that they are either

A) extremely stupid and don't watch other "going rates" for auctions

B) are doing it purely to mock people that are 'flipping' their system on ebay

C) have a mental retardation that needs medicated

If the PS3 bubble is popping, then the Wii bubble never formed. I got a Wii w/ Zelda for $405 shipped. After taxes, it's a very minor premium to pay to avoid aggravation.

I think some of those with ridiculous starting/buy it now prices listed them several days ago during the height of the ridiculous prices.

There are probably a few people kicking themselves for not having the patience to wait less than a week to save $2-$3k. Plus any fools who bought one for $2k-$3k with plans of flipping it again at an even higher price.

yes, quite true, but I'd expect there to be a rush/craze. I used to work retail and black friday is definitely the day from hell (as far as retailers are concerned)

I was just talking about casually walking into any random electronics department, gazing at one in the glass case, and purchasing it for retail.

Not to threadcrap (is it possible in this thread?), but do you feel it's worth your time spent waiting in line? Maybe you got lucky with a short wait, but a coworker of mine took 2 days off (one to start waiting in line, one to recover) work and made like 1k for it. He's now seconding guessing his decision, and I can't say I don't agree.

honestly, i only waited at one store for 1.5 hours, inside, and I didn't even have to do that.

I was one of the smart ones that pre-ordered the system.

As for the people that did wait, there's no way in hell I'd be freezing my arse off for 800-1200, unless i needed to feed my non-existant kids, or whatever

My time, especially in the overnight hours and it's under freezing temperatures, is worth at least $500 an hour.

Today is $.20 listing day, with no extra for starting the auction above $9.99. If you are going to sell something, start it today.

yea, im going to list the first one for 24 hours, right when I get home, actually.

I watched WAY too many auctions. It appears the ones that are ending around 11-1 p.m. pacific time go for the most. I would attribute that to business men on their lunch, with more money then brains

At work yesterday they were talking about how much ps3's were going for. They were saying they were going for like 12,000. I didn't want to have to explain the whole "shill bidding/zero feedback" explenation, so I just said, "wow that's a whole lot".

Although I'm sure fox news and cnn on are saying they're going for 12,000 too.

So when did the trend of taking a shot of your auction with a chick's boobs start?

Not that I mind...

$200 for shipping? It better be delivered in person by the owner of those boobs for that price.
