its probably an average

Jeremy517 11-22-06 02:08 PM

Obviously it is an average, but is it an average of all auctions (including ones with shill bidders) or just "legit" auctions.

It probably also doesn't distinguish between auctions that include games/accessories and ones that don't.

It says the seller ended it early, so I'm guessing that the seller and the winner has already worked out a real sale amount via email.

Damed 11-22-06 02:17 PM

...but it says "at current bid price"

Which is $9.99

KurrptSenate 11-22-06 02:20 PM

yea, that just saves the seller some ebay fees, really

Damed 11-22-06 02:21 PM

Ah, I see.

Learn something new every day. Thanks!

KurrptSenate 11-22-06 02:25 PM

yea, it's not SUPPOSED to happen, but it does. its really to the seller's and buyer's benefit, and ebay is the only one that loses out at all...

if that is the case, that is. It seems like the most logical explanation

bunkaroo 11-22-06 03:42 PM

That's actually smart for the seller and the buyer. The seller is still on the hook and obligated to deliver gooods so the buyer is protected. The seller is going to save at least $40-$50 I would imagine.

I reported him. You're not supposed to inflate shipping charges to circumvent ebay fees.

Save Ferris 11-27-06 02:21 PM

Can this be right--PS3s are only fetching a little over retail????

PS3 prices falling online

KurrptSenate 11-27-06 02:28 PM

well, i just sold mine on saturday, and the 60 GB version with no extras went for 900.00. I only charged 30 for standard shipping on top of that

Do you work for eBay? Is it THAT big of a deal to you?

Meh. Their fees are outrageous anyway.

EDIT: Nevermind. Hadn't clicked on the link beforehand. $800 for shipping! Insane. Glad you reported him, at that rate...I've no problem with people inflating shipping prices a little...but that's absurd.

:D For anything under $100 I probably wouldn't have bothered, but $800 is crazy and blatant fee avoidance.

Ebay has to make money somewhere, and if people consistently circumvent fees, my fees will likely be higher in the end.

Plus, sometimes people don't notice the shipping charge.

ChrisHicks 12-03-06 01:34 AM

for anyone who doesn't want to spend alot of money on a PS3 and a Wii should look here:

i'm sorry, but you're just being a dick.
it's not your concern.
you don't work for ebay.
i can't justify your actions.
if you spend your free time reporting others on ebay,
you need to look into a new hobby.

KurrptSenate 12-04-06 09:56 AM

I disagree. Just because its "none of your business" doesn't make it any more right. Its people like that which cause ebay to raise their fees, and make everyone suffer. Its illegal to do so, and I wish more people would report these people

Yea I hate those neighborhood watch busybodies too!

Unless they catch someone stealing my stuff! ;)

Sorry, but eBay is a business, not a public service. eBay can afford to spend a little more to police their own policies. It's the cost of doing business.

KurrptSenate 12-04-06 10:19 AM

it would be impossible to police the number of auctions that are on-going at any given time.

I mean sure, you could just opt to buy from someone who doesn't choose to do so, but that wouldn't deter that same person to selling a product to someone else.

I think ebay should be held to a higher standard, and its pretty clear that the community itself will be the deciding factor, as opposed to ebay suddenly policing its own policies
