Amazon's policy is that you have 90 minutes to cancel.

They RUSHED these into that 'so called' SHIPPING MODE BULLCORN, knowing folks would try to win by ordering. This is something I believe they planned well ahead of time to screw people out of $300 bucks and suck the interest off the top.

Then we speak to a so called Supervisor named Christina B, who said she was canceling the order and would email us a confirm number.

She NEVER emailed us SQUAT.

We called back and they gave us the same bull and Christina NEVER noted our account. SHE LIED TO US.

So now, our bank account has ALREADY been debited, and we're gonna take a hit of $300+ for some 10 days.

Hey THEEK I gotta ask.....Did you put the $100 redemption code you got in the e-mail into the claim box?

It was the same way after they sold out of the Wii within minutes. I think it's funny how people hing hope on one of the biggest online retailers in the world.

The Edit King 11-23-06 04:36 PM

There was no redemption code in my email.

I signed on at 11 am, got through, ordered, and got the confirm.

Did you add it from this link? www.amazon.com/customers-vote
You had to go there first, there was a button that said "get this deal", then you had to go through there. If you went directly to the Core Console, you'd be charged regular price.

The Edit King 11-23-06 04:47 PM

Yep.

That was the link in the email that said the XBOX won the contest, right?

IDrinkMolson 11-23-06 04:52 PM

Yup, it's also under the "buying tips" on the voting page.

The Edit King 11-23-06 04:54 PM

The guy we spoke to said they were having technical problems with the contest. If that's true or not is yet to be seen, but a lot of folks are calling it "Bait & Switch", so what happened to me has happened to many, Many, MANY, other folks today.

You get through, order, and then can't cancel.

(Nothin' like spending a few hours of Thanksgiving on the phone with customer support.)

They planned this.

I'm just another sucker.

Did you happen to use One-Click Ordering?

If so then there's where ya screwed the pooch. If you'd read the 'buying tips' (which I will admit are not very easy to find) for the deal you would have seen it clearly state

When you proceed to checkout, do not use 1-Click® ordering. If you do so, you will not be directed to your Place Order page as you check out, and you will be unable to confirm that the promotion has been attached to your order.

I'll take that as a compliment. :)

kdubby 11-23-06 06:04 PM

I got the page to load somewhere between 2:01 and 2:02 and it was sold out. I really did not think that I was going to be able to get one, but it was worth the try.

Demontooth 11-23-06 06:26 PM

I dozed off and missed the whole thing.

The Edit King 11-23-06 06:31 PM

Yes, for Pete's sake, I did it right.

They even acknowledged that I did it right. There's no question of that, they just kept changing the reason. From technical trouble, to it selling out in under 5 seconds, to some folks saying that it was sold out before 11 am.

Look. I could care less about the $100 price as I posted above. That's not the issue. $300 to me is a drop in the bucket. I spend more than that in 15 minutes each week on DVD's alone and think nothing of it. The issue is that I wanted to cancel (after seeing that I did not win) minutes after ordering, Aka: 'Getting Suckered', into buying something I wouldn't pay $300 for, but I couldn't.

...and they can't just credit our account? Woah no. -ohbfrank-

This is what burns me up:

First I've got to wait 4 days for them to ship me a product that I don't want (that they say is supposedly already 'locked' into the shipping process on a Holiday that absolutely cannot be reversed, knowing damn well every system has an 'overide'), and when it comes, will be refused on delivery. Then, I've got to wait for them to process the return, and add days on top of that to finally credit our account.

(Someone's sucking the interest off the top of my money, and it isn't me. )

They left no window whatsoever for cancellation. That's what seriously rubs me the wrong way with this 'Contest'.

It's like loaning money to a billionaire.

Oh well, 'Live & Learn'...

Actually, I don't know what the Hell I would have done with the blasted thing if I did win it.

Hey! Thank you Everybuddy, for all of your time & help.

Congratulations to all who won, and here's hoping your having (or had) a Great Thanksgiving Day.

I thought about it for a second when the time was coming up but just didn't give a damn enough to attempt it. I probably would've been very adamant about it if I had been home, but at the Thanksgiving dinner there were better things to do.

Well, at least we can take comfort in the fact that you won't stick around here long at all. People with attitudes like yours never do.

I always find it humorous when someone who's been here for less than 6 months starts attacking regulars. (Heck, I don't even consider myself a "regular" and I've been here for 3 years). Either way, I'll be sure to jump over any future posts by that guy.

Done.

Now onto this deal: what bothers me is that even if you have everything 'right', it was still a lottery to get in on this deal or not. I think that being closer to the location of Amazon's webservers, made the difference. I would LOVE to see the geographical location and ISP of everyone who got in.

And for me? I didn't want to purchase on to sell it on eBay. I wanted to put it my in-laws home, so I don't have to drag my XBOX back and forth (which will eventually break it). Guess I have to wait until the 2nd Gen will be released next year (runs cooler due to newer chips, most likely a 100GB HD and probably HDMI).

[RUN RANT]
[PISSED OFF OPTION 1]

Yes you are right, I was hitting F5 to refresh and then BAM guess what my connection timed out. Me saying oh F**KING great did a tracert and found that at the gateway in Chicago is where my connection went to shit, I’m in northern Indiana. I’m betting either coast had better luck getting through, but it still pisses me off that somewhere some jackass who can't take care of a network or more likely their company is too damn cheap to put in a larger pipe (AT&T cough) screwed us.

[END RANT]

exm 11-24-06 01:46 PM

I have been emailing back and forth with Amazon, complaining about this deal and after 4 emails I finally recieved a decent apology (the first 3 were the usual bla bla copy'n'paste replies):

Greetings from Amazon.com.

I am truly sorry for the frustration and inconvenience you incurred
on Thanksgiving day due to our XBox promotion. We can see that you
have been a very loyal customer and hope you will continue to be.

As this was our first endeavor to attempt this type of promotion we
did not fully expect the overwhelming response we received.

We value our customers' trust above all else--it is the foundation
upon which Amazon.com was built. Please know that this situation was
the result of a combination of technical and human errors, and that
in no way did we intend for this to happen.

I hope that you will continue to consider Amazon.com for your future
online shopping needs.

Please let us know if this e-mail resolved your question:

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. I feel no outrage, like some I've seen online at various places from people who felt entitled to one of the thousand offered (I knew going in it was a crap shoot), but that line right there sounds like bs if ever I've heard it.

I do feel bad for the people who got through, or thought they did, only to be charged full price. That has to suck.

Quake1028 11-24-06 02:50 PM

Someone on another board who claims to work for Amazon said that the 360 systems sold out in 29 seconds.

Kinda surprising, I thought it would be less then that. Like -10 seconds or something.

The Edit King 11-24-06 07:14 PM

The first CS guy I spoke to said it was '5' seconds.

You'd think they'd just suck it up and give it to you for the correct price.

If I were you, I'd demand it...isn't it false advertisement/illegal, otherwise?

Goldberg74 11-24-06 08:17 PM

Hey TEK, I almost feel sorry for starting this thread... but your posts continue to bring me such joy.

Especially during the holiday season!

;)

The Edit King 11-24-06 08:25 PM

abrg: I really can't (& don't) expect that...

I mean, as it was, Treesa and I demanded (in so many words) to cancel that order and break free just minutes (literally) after placing it (so our money wouldn't be just tied up with them for nothing), and they under no conditions would not do it. It's not like they could not do it, they simply would not do it. (It's common knowledge that every system has an 'override', as I posted earlier. Not to mention they had 4 days to stop it before it actually left their facility, but repeatedly insisted they somehow couldn't.) Fat chance in Hell they'd just give me anything.

They did nothing to make it right. They did absolutely nothing to help us. We just wanted to cancel for Pete's sake. They wouldn't even give us a credit (to possibly buy something else we may have actually wanted at that $300 price. I mean, I could have bought a better-deal Xbox bundle at Costco for that much, or maybe even less.). With a business that damn big and service that terribly bad, it leads me to conclude (contrary to popular belief):

1. They don't need me (and from this experience, I feel safe to say): 2. They don't need you, either.

Heck, I can remember the days of 'Customer Service' (way back when), when 'Keeping the Customer Satisfied' actually meant something. Today it's like, 'To Hell with the customer', because they know damn well if you or I don't shop with them, 1,000,000 other people will, regardless of their treatment of me (or you for that matter), and fully understanding that matter of fact, they'll just go on their merry way like nothing ever happened with business as usual.

(Sorry about the rant, ya'll. http://www.fastlanehw.com/forums/ima...es/redface.gif )

Gb: Glad to be of service! &

TEK! :editking:
