I'm loving mine. I got Resistance and Madden. Resistance is a blast and Madden is just like the 360 version, ie, missing a lot of the features of the current gen Madden but still fun, once you're actually playing a game.

No heat issues, just keep it in a well ventilated place. The console itself doesn't get hot, but the vents on the right side and the back put out a lot of hot air, so if it's in an enclosed space, it will cause problems.

I bought the 20GB model since I already had a wireless adapter for it and I'm trying to decide if I want to go ahead and get a 120GB or so hard drive for it.

The controller is fine. If you're used to the dual shock, it feels pretty much the same. The lightness doesn't make it feel cheap to me, and I can almost guarantee you won't even think about it within a few minutes of playing. To me, it feels "right" to shake the controller to get enemies off of me in Resistance, and I'm sure developers will come up with very cool things to do with the motion sensing. Motorstorm looks like it will use it well, once you get used to the sensitivity.

Oh, and the Blu-Ray playback is awesome. So far, I absolutely think it was worth the $500.

I see my copy Resistance is on the UPS truck heading to me today but my PS3 is still in TN. walmart.com shipped my games via 2 day(which is what I paid for) but shipped my console via ground so I'll have this game sitting here taunting me for a few days. damn you walmart, damn you!!!!. :)

I agree virtually with everything you said...I have the 60GB version, but bought the exact same games you did at launch. I'm embarassed to say I haven't even gone online yet with mine, but am happy with everything else...especially the Blu-ray playback, which is excellent (that alone is worth the investment).

Here's why you couldn't find any PS3's for sale.

Holdup was fake, cops say

Story appeared in METRO section, Page B3

Two employees are facing criminal charges following the reported theft of four coveted PlayStation 3 game consoles last week from an Elk Grove business, police said Wednesday.

http://www.gizmodo.com/assets/resour...11/holdup2.jpg

Tauryn Robert Hodge and Gerald Anthony Keys, both 19, were arrested Tuesday on charges of suspected embezzlement, burglary and conspiracy. Hodge is facing an additional charge of filing a false police report. Both were employees of the GameStop on Laguna Boulevard.

On Nov. 16, a day before the consoles were to go on sale, Elk Grove police received a report from Hodge that masked gunmen had robbed his store.

The machines retail for $499 to $599 but have been offered on eBay for hundreds more.

"It was Hodge who initially called the Elk Grove police," Officer Christopher Trim said.

"There are things we are continuing to investigate," Trim said. "There may or may not be additional parties involved. We still haven't recovered the merchandise."

Police were tight-lipped about how they discovered that the robbery report was bogus.

"Our detectives were able to gather information that wasn't consistent with a robbery," Trim said. "They felt there was more to the investigation than meets the eye."

After the reported Elk Grove robbery, police warned retailers in the area, some of whom hired more security. They also advised the encampments of hopeful purchasers waiting for days outside stores to be careful.

Sacramento County Sheriff's Department records show that as of afternoon Wednesday, both men had posted bail and were not in custody.
 Love the photoshop.

We found a 3rd party set from Best Buy - I forget the price but they work quite well.

Im useing these...

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1155065410910

They are great cables but I didn't feel like spending 69.99 for it so I asked my friend to use his employee discount at best buy for me and it came out to 26.99 (Because Best Buy Employee discount isn't by percentage off its the price Best Buy buys it from the manufacturer). Sons of a Bitches make a killing on accessories. I remember when he was fixing up his home theater system and he picked up $110 monster cables for only 34.99.

I'm using the same cheap component cables I was using for my PS2. I think they are Mad Catz, but I'm not sure. If you already had cables for your PS2, just use those.

While mine aren't a cheap set (Monster cable), I'm using mine from my PS2 as well. However, I've noticed that I have some sort of a faint line that scrolls from the bottom to the top of the screen when connected to the PS3, but not on the PS2. It's very annoying on a solid color background like when surfing the web on the PS3, but is hardly noticible during gameplay. Not sure if it's my cable since it works great on the PS2 or if maybe it's the PS3 connection. I ordered a new component cable that is advertised for the PS3 to see what the deal is. Hope it's not the PS3 as I don't see any chance at a return and exchange for quite some time. I would try the HDMI output but my HDTV doesn't have an HDMI input, unfortunately.

Does it have DVI? If so, you could get an HDMI to DVI adapter. Do you have another component input on your tv you could try? You might also try running your PS3 in 480i mode and see if the line is still there.

That's what I'm using.

I plan on getting a set of better ones once I get my new TV.

Nope, just has component inputs, it's an older HDTV that isn't even widescreen. But the picture is still awesome.

I'll try the other input and try 480i mode too (even though I'd much rather have the thing work correctly in 1080i), thanks for the tips.

I just hooked mine up and it works with my linksys wrt54gs router. I'm currently downloading the 1.11 update. now I need to run to best buy and get some component cables.

So I passed up a 20 Gig PS3 yesterday from EB Games. I just walked in and asked, I'm feeling fairly idiotic right now, but I'm not going to EBay it, and if I'm going to pay $500, I want the damn larger HD and WiFi. Eh, still swinging back and forth between proud of myself for waiting for what I wanted versus pissed on passing it up. I'm not sure I'll see one again this year. Ah well...

Save Ferris 11-29-06 04:30 PM

i think there is a genuine lack of enthusiasm for this sony product as a whole :(

But i think its good you didnt buy it just to buy it--you shouldnt have to

I wish they had a $549 version with wifi and the small HD. I'm going to swap out the HD anyways, but the wifi is a make or break for me.

I did the exact same thing last Saturday, for the exact same reason, so don't think twice about it. Why "settle" if you aren't dying to have it? It was tough for me to say no cuz I've always been a "gotta have it NOW" kind of person, but I settled for the Core 360 after getting screwed out of a Premium, and I'm not gonna do it again (although I was able to "upgrade" my Core to match a Premium for only about $20 more than a Premium)

I had originally planned on selling my PS3, but when the eBay market died down, and my friend decided to keep his and I saw it in action, I am thinking of keeping mine. The problem is I'd have to get rid of my 360 if I kept the PS3. No, my wife isn't making me choose  I just don't have time for two next-gen systems. I used to own an Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube, and at different times one got all the attention while the others collected dust.

So how about some opinions? Would you keep the 360 or the PS3? I know the 360 has cool games out now, and some of the features are awesome. But the PS3 has some cool features as well, plus some cool upcoming games.

That's a tough one. I'm an admitted PS3 fanboy, so my opinion doesn't mean much probably, but here goes. Do you still play any of your old XBox or PS2 games? Since both consoles have at least limited backwards compatibility, if you have more games for one or the other might make a difference.

Also, 360 definitely has more good games now and for the foreseeable future, but the PS3 isn't so bad, especially Resistance. Fight Night Round 3 comes out next week and looks amazing. By March or so when the European launch is scheduled, there should be plenty of awesome games. So it depends on how patient you are. There aren't going to be as many exclusive titles for this generation of consoles, but there are a few. The 360 has Halo and GOW, among others, while the PS3 will have Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy, among others. Check out some of the upcoming titles and see which ones interest you.

Finally, does HD-DVD or Blu-Ray interest you? I know a lot of people downplay the BR capability of the PS3, but after you watch a couple of movies with it, it is a pretty awesome format. Of course, the 360 has the HD-DVD player available separately, if you decide you want to try it out. HD-DVD has better movies right now, but now that more BR players are hitting the market, that should even out.

Don't know if this was much help, I think it really comes down to what kind of games do you like to play, and which console will have more of those type of games. I'm not much of a shooter kind of guy, and it seems that the 360's best games are shooters, so that's why I went with the PS3. Plus, I had a PS2 instead of an XBox, so the backwards compatibility helped sway me.

now what exactly seduced you about the PS3? Resistance? Wiggling the controller for some extra movement? Everything else interesting is pretty much on the 360 already.

The Bus 11-30-06 07:16 AM

It doesn't make sense that you can't handle two consoles and "need" to get rid of one.

I think your wife is making you choose or is making you feel guilty about having two of them.

huh? 11-30-06 07:38 AM

I can understand not wanting to own both. There isn't much on Ps3 that isn't already on Xbox. Why have redundant cosoles?

Do you use your 360 on live to play multiplayer or anything? If so then I can't see possibly getting rid of the 360 since it would actually seem like a downgrade going to the PS3 especially with all of the duplicate titles available.

If you don't use the live service then it's really a toss up. You just need to look at what games are available versus what's coming out and decide which console will have more use. I had an opportunity to buy a 60GB version the other day at Wal-Mart of all places, sitting in the case. Believe me it was tempting but after I thought on it for a minute I realized that for me it made no sense to buy one right now. Some of you must think I'm crazy. :( But I still have that $600 in my checking account :D

Save Ferris 11-30-06 08:26 AM

Ill get one eventually as a bluray player only (assuming they work well and get a good track history). But the price will go down and I can wait till then.
