Anyone know how they are with rebates?
With Target giving a $50 giftcard on the system and a $10 card on Gears, and Circuit
City giving your choice of free game on a certain friday coming up soon, I'm not sure
it'd be worth the hassle of dealing with a mail-in rebate. I've had such hit & miss success
with the things.

When I went this morning, there were plenty of units (more Premium systems than Core systems) to be had, easily over 75 premiums and 25 cores. The numbers start dwindling down to half by the time I got in the checkout line around 10 a.m. Now that I bought one, I think I'll return it and wait for the version 2 to come up in 2007 (cooler-running CPU, perhaps HDMI support).

I ended up returning the first XBOX 360 (had a 06/2006 build date, and I was reading too many horror stories). Then I found out the newer builds were found with the boxes that had 3 paragraphs on the top of the box (the older builds have no groups of paragraphs on the top). I ended up with a 09/2006 build date with the 2nd unit.
I also took advantage of signing up for the Bank of America Visa with Worldpoints offer (sign up, and make a $399 purchase, and that enables you to get the other $100 back), and that makes the premium system $199. I splurged for the 1-year extended warranty for $32 (if nothing happens in the first year, I can extend it for another year for another $32, which I thought was better than paying the full $60 for 2 years of coverage for a one-n-done warranty.

Why are some people assuming a big revision with such things as HDMI is coming? There is absolutely no basis for this. The original xbox never had a revision and nothing has ever been said about physical changes happening. There may be some internal tweaks but they are not going to alienate the 7 million customers already out there by adding new features. Ain't going to happen.
