How to play Rainbow 6?

Rainbow 6 Vegas seems interesting. The problem is, I don't know how to play it. I tried the original Rainbow 6 and have no clue as to what's going on. Is there someone here that can give me some basics so I can start? I've tried reading guide online, but it doesn't help much.

I'm fine with Splinter Cell, but I know that's a completely different game.

Hmm... maybe start with the already existing Rainbow 6 thread?

basically, its all about going slow, and using your team members as best as you can.

if you are confused with the controls, well, that takes time. If you want ideas for strategies, that might require a lot more time

That right there is the key to this game. Any "run and gun" or rushing into rooms or areas with enemies by yourself or without using your team will get you KILLED... fast.

my problem with the other games, on hard, is that you HAVE to know where every enemy stands, or where he/she spawns in order to take them out without getting hit.

Normally, ill just send in my teammates first and let them get hit

This was the first Rainbox Six game I've ever played and I picked it up pretty quickly. Of course, it helps that I play every FPS like a chickenshit. Here that's actually the overriding strategy.

Rainbow Six has "realistic" damage, so your guy can only take a few shots before dying. You have to take the game slow and pay very careful attention to your surroundings. Before entering a new room, use the snake cam to look under the door and scope it out. Many rooms will have multiple points of entry so tell your teammates to wait at one door, and you go to another door so that you can flank the enemies inside. Many times if you plan carefully, you can take down a room of 3-4 terrorists before any of them even get a shot off.
