360Zine
Hi
I saw this thread pop up on the list of referrers. Hopefully, you are missing much - the emag is written by professional journos and we've had lots of positive feedback. To solve the two different problems you seem to be having, I think the solution is the same, and we do state it on the site: http://www.gamerzines.com/about-us.html You need to have Adobe Reader v6 or above. In the first case, I would guess Adobe Reader 5, which isn't capable of displaying the complex nature of the emag. In the case of OSX preview, no that won't work. The Apple PDF preview doesn't use the full Adobe Reader and as such, I don't believe it can display PDF 1.5, which are cross-platform, but you do need the full version of Adobe Reader (free), not the Mac's built-in PDF viewer. As long as you have Adobe Reader 6 or above, the emag should work fine. Let me know how you get on and what you think of it. Dave |

Dave I went ahead and installed the entire adobe acrobat and plugins available from synaptic, I am using SimplyMepis Linux Distro, but when I open the ezine it looks great but I keep getting an error that "rendition" isn't installed. |
Say, COD2 and COD3 players...I know we've all seen the History channel specials on WWII but if you get a chance download a short piece on the Marketplace about "The Normandy Breakout". 3 Veterans talk a bit about what happened to them during that campaign.
Talk about true heroes. |

Anyway, the renditions that the emag will play are some Flash based ones for animated screenshots, and I would hope that Linux's Reader can deal with those if Flash is installed. Any Flash player from version 5 onwards should be enough. The second type of rendition is harder and can fall over on some, but not all, Macs even. That's the videos in the ads, which are compressed in WMV format (I know, I know, but we had to choose one file format that was likely to be available on most peoples machines, and unfortunately, that is Windows Media). I don't know if there is a Linux player that supports WMV? Hope this all helps. Dave |

Good luck with your EMag. Chris Thanks! Version 8 of Reader is coming soon, and is supposed to offer some pretty neat new features. Haven't seen it yet, but it might be worth keeping an eye out for. |

I have the windows codecs installed so the wmv files shouldn't be a problem. |

Dave I couldn't get the multi-media clips to play but that might be an Acrobat issue. |
Picked up the 3 BK games this evening and hope to be Big Bumpin online after my wife and i finish watching DaVinci Code.
edit: Be sure to ask, some BK's will let you buy all 3 games on one combo. |

Yeah, the OSX PDF business is not widely publicised and I only found out about it when working on this. It's something to do with the fact thatAdobe only released the PDF specs for PDF 1.0 (I believe) when it made it open, so third party viewers can only support that far, and all the really fun stuff in PDF didn't happen until after that. Glad you got it working enough to see it looking nice. |

^^^Very funny.
I bought a 360 about a month ago and was wondering if I could still purchase an extended warranty. Do I have to buy it from the store I bought it or can I buy one from Microsoft or some other place? |
1-800-4MY-XBOX
You can buy it any time. |
If you need a wireless 360 adapter, J&R.com has it for $19.99 It's currently out of stock though, so signing up for the email alert may be in order.
*sorry, jumped the gun on this one. Looks like it's not the same or is no longer made. |

Just got a 360 yesterday with some gamerush credit. Can't wait to play it on my dad's plasma when I go home for thanksgiving. I signed up for xbox live today with an old 1 year subsciption card for the original xbox that I bought a long time ago on clearance at target.
I already bought Geometry Wars with the free 1600 points I got recently, and I think Zuma is going to be my next arcade purchase after trying some of the demos. I think I am going to wait on playing the games I have until I play them on an HDTV in a few days. Loving it so far, I really like how incorporated XBOX live is with the system, as far as playing demos and getting arcade games. |

If you like Zuma and have a DS check out Magnetica, it is the game that Zuma ripped off, and a much better game overall. |

The Japanese developer Mitchell Corporation claims Zuma is a clone of their 1998 arcade game, Puzz Loop. In an interview [1], it was suggested that Mitchell contacted PopCap and threatened to sue for intellectual property infringement, but so far no legal action seems to have taken place. Mitchell re-released this design in 2006 as the Nintendo DS game Magnetica. Some screenshots of Puzz Loop: http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?...P&game_id=9165 |
I was reading that the PS3 has a web browser. Anyone heard if the 360 will eventually add a browser? Maybe some browser integration when Vista comes out. That'd be nice.
