I finished act 1 on insane the other day. My brother is coming over this weekend so I may just start over on insane as Dom to get those achievements.
|
I've been playing through again on insane. Beat the first two chapters with little problem. I'm now playing the 3rd chapter and those damn exploding wretches are rediculous.
Got inside the plant and to the part where a wretch appears on top of the stairwell, so far it seems impossible. No matter how many times I play it (around 20 attempts so far) I cant get past it. I have no problems dealing with any of the other creatures but these exploding bastards are really pissing me off. They just swarm to fast and I cant get out of their way fast enough before they explode. I've never thought this game could be cheap until now, not sure if I'll attempt to keep going through on insane. |
Gears of War Surpasses 2 Million
December 15, 2006 - Microsoft sent out word this morning that Gears of War has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide with more than 1 million of those sales coming from the United States alone. This impressive sales figure was reached in just the first six weeks since the release of Epic Games' sci-fi shooter. "We've always held high hopes for Gears of War, but we never expected such an overwhelmingly positive response from critics and gamers all over the world," said Michael Capps, president, Epic Games. "I can't describe how stoked our team is right now. Our fans can absolutely count on Epic to keep delivering new gameplay through Xbox Live." Gears of War has also pressed more Xbox 360 owners to take advantage of Xbox Live. Paid registrations per day for Xbox Live have risen more than 50 percent since its release. Over 1 million unique gamers have logged on to play more than 10 million games making Gears of War the number 1 Xbox Live title. IGN.com |
It sounds like everyone is enjoying the challenge of the game. I love a challenge that's what keeps a game interesting.
|
I'm in the hype. Didn't want to get it at first{around Christmas time received it}. But now I wish I would have got it on release date. Everybody is somewhat better than me. I love this game better than Vegas.
|
agreed, even though I got it the day after it came out...
I've learned that I enjoy online multiplayer more if I keep my headset unplugged. |
I'm getting ready to jump back into this and have a quick question.
Can you unlock all the 'level' achievements just playing through on Insane? I know you can unlock the easy if you play on Hardcore, but can you unlock them all if I hook up with a friend who has unlocked Insane? I only ask because when I played on Insane previously(I haven't unlocked it), in Live it shows that I am playing Hardcore. Anyone tried this yet? |
For those who are still holding back on getting this game (very few now) Gears stole the show and awards at D.I.C.E by taking in (8 !!!) awards including Overall game of the year.
They said the highlight of the evening was when the Sony president of Worldwide Studios had to present Gears with the Outstanding Online Achievement Award and in turn bragged how robost the 360's online capabilities were. Don't you know someone had steam coming out of those ears! http://www.gamespot.com/news/6165614...ewstop;title;1 Kenny J - Buzz Starhopper |

Thanks bigdaddy

Definitely worth the hype. My buddies and I polished off the campaign in co-op last night on our third late night of drinking and playing it over the past month or so, and then had a blast in the death match modes both local and online.
Definitely one of the better games of recent years. Easily my number 2 game of 2006, behind only Zelda. |
Beat that final bastard alone...of course it was on casual. Might hold off for a partner to take on insane.
|
I still haven't killed him on Hardcore and I think I'm going to need a partner. But then again, I'm thinking of just skip trying to beat him on hardcore and start a new game on insane then co-oping that final battle. Who knows...

Mixture of both but mostly coop for Insane. Me and a buddy did it over Live. Some parts took us an insane amount of times. It was most dificult when we had to split up on some missions.
|
I just got GoW last week, and I'm really enjoying it. I'm at the point now where I'm trying to beat RAAM on Casual (weak, I know), but I've mainly been playing Multiplayer.
|
I had to Co-op it(only Raam) but with some help I finally finished Hardcore. It took two attempts but on the second try with my Torque Bow and the other guy's Sniper we made quick work of Raam.
I'll be starting Insane very soon. |
Man, another all nighter with my buddy in co-op last night.
We decided to fire it up on Hardcore, and we ended up playing through the whole campaign--though it took from 6 pm to 7 am. Only took us two tries to kill Raam, though there were some other sections that must have taken a good 20-30 tries. Great game, but I think its out of my system. As hard as it was on Hardcore, I don't think I want to bother with Insane. |
Just picked up this game and have some questions on the weapons.
when you pick up a weapon on the ground, is it possible to switch back to your prev weapon you swapped it with? If so, how? It seems to be permanent Is it possible to control which weapon you are swapping with, or are you limited to one pistol type and one rifle type? Is the grenade launcher also considered a weapon? You can swap it with another? Is the name of the weapon you are using displayed somewhere? where? Is the name of the weapon on the ground displayed somewhere? I'd like to know what weapon I'm able to swap to. |
timewaster, Once you swap a weapon whatever weapon you dropped can only be used again if you pick it back up, so yes picking up a weapon from the ground is permanent, at least until you find another weapon you'd like to swap for.
You can only have one type of pistol and one type of grenade at a time. Your Grenades are mapped to the "up" direction on the d-pad and the pistol is mapped to the "down" direction. You can have two types of larger guns and they are mapped to the "left" and "right" positions so make sure you have the weapon selected that you'd like to drop before picking up a new weapon. To swap weapons simply push the direction on the d-pad that the weapon is located. Whenever you find a weapon on the ground a little icon will pop up in the shape of the weapon once you've played the game a bit you'll know which is which. |
Sorry to resurrect this old beast but I finally finished it solo on Hardcore. :D It took me at least 20 tries to beat RAAM at the end but I did it though I'm sure luck played a big part.
Am either going to sell/trade it or run through it on Insane now to get the extra achievements. How hard is insane? Is Insane better to play as co-op? Do people still play this game co-op? I imagine the RAAM fight is extremely hard and frustrating (it was for me on Hardcore). |
The game is significantly easier playing Co-op. Insane is relatively possible with a human helping out.
