Not sure if anyone else grabbed any, but GameStop had $3.99 movies on UMD this morning. Pretty wide selection. I ended up buying 17 of the things.

I picked up a PSP Daxter edition today. I had a hard time finding one in stock (3 Gamestops, 2 Fred Meyers, 1 Gamecrazy, 1 Target, 1 Walmart all sold out--lots of the Star Wars sets). All those places had them a week ago, but it took me forever to decide between a DS and a PSP (games like Jeanne D'arc, Disgaea, FF Tactics, GTA Vice City and the fact that I found playing Zelda with the stylus really annoying ultimately made the decision not even close).

I finally managed to get it for in-store pickup at a Best Buy, but it was sold out at the other 5 Best Buys nearby and for online delivery. Hopefully the fact these were sold out all over bodes well for the system now that I own one.

I noticed the Daxter bundle sold out at several stores. Seems to be the one people are grabbing. Glad you got one.

Yea, I never found one a Daxter bundle when i was looking last week. Even though I wasn't crazy about the silver, it was the best bang for the buck. I ended up getting the SW version, mainly cause I really liked the white color. The game is pretty fun too.

Anyone playing Silent Hill Origins? I'm having trouble with the foot stomp move to kill a monster. As in previous SH games you usually have to beat an enemy till it fulls to the ground, and then deliver a finishing move. In SH2/3 it consisted of 1 or more kicks, but in SH:O it's a single boot stomp to the back, or potentially a jab with a blade in back if you have one equipped. If you fail to do this the monster will get back up and start attacking again.

In theory this is done pretty much the same as in other games, you release the R trigger, walk up to the monster and press X. However, for some reason, in SH:O this fails for me about 80% of the time. I'm trying to work out whether I have to approach the monster from near it's head or something, but sometimes it seems I'm literally doing a 360 of the monster while hammering X and still failing to do the move. I really can't work out what the deal is.

Anyway, I started playing the game and it was a little annoying, but for a single monster it's not hard to beat them back down again. But now, I'm encountering groups of 2+, and especially out in the streets it's hard to get through a combat without losing a ton of health if you can't realiably finish them when they go down. I had a quick look on gamefaqs but I couldn't see anything describing special conditions for the completion of the move.

Unfortunately this is almost a game breaker for me, which is a damn shame cos the game seems alright otherwise. Can anyone help?

Beats is available today and very good if you like the Harmonix type music games. It uses the music on your PSP and its only $4.99.

Well worth it.

I agree completely. The beatfinding technology seems pretty accurate and it's well worth $5.

I had overlooked the jamming mode which is also fun. You can mix and record your own beats. Really a bargain at $5.

I'm playing this too and I love it. I haven't had an issue with the finishing move at all, one thing I will say is instead of trying to do it from the "perimeter" of the enemy, step on them, or into their sprite and it should work from any part of the body. If that makes any sense.

I'm loving FF Tactics: The War of the Lions. I'm about 25 hours into the game and enjoying every second of it. It's going to be an enjoyable Christmas break playing this game with Castlevania and Tales of the World up next.

That's not all :

Record TV Through Your PSP
New firmware update in Japan makes dreams come true.
by Anoop Gantayat
December 12, 2007 - Sony Japan announced today plans for a year-end firmware update for the Japanese PSP that will add some major functionality to the system just in time for Christmas.

On 12/18, Japanese PSP owners will be able to download the version 3.8 update. This update adds the following features:

BB Mobile Point Demos
When in the vicinity of an access point for Yahoo BB Mobile Point, a paid wireless internet service that's available at 3,500 retail and public locations throughout Japan, you'll be able to access the PlayStation Spot retail download service directly from your PSP. This will give you access to demos of upcoming games. This service appears to be available even to those who aren't subscribers to the BB Mobile Point service, as you won't be prompted for an SSID/WEP key, ID, or password.

Record Television Programs
Those with the PSP's 1seg tuner will be able to record television programs to their Memory Stick Duo. Some programs will allow you to flag them in advance for recording as you browse the 1seg channel guide. Once it's done recording, the PSP will automatically enter sleep mode. This feature will not allow you to record multiple programs at one time, nor will you be able to watch a program while recording another. Game and internet functionality of the system will also be inaccessible during recording sessions.

Internet Radio Compatibility
You'll be able to listen to streaming internet radio broadcasts through an Internet Radio Player.

Two of these features appear to be specific to the Japanese market, so we'll have to wait for official announcement to see what's in the 3.8 update for regions outside of Japan.

I was secretly hoping for better video codec support, but shoutcast is a cool feature to have. I use it on Pocket Tunes on my Palm PDA from time to time. There are some great comedy channels on there.

Yeah, I only mentioned the internet radio thing since that's probably the only thing we'll see. The video recording is limited to the PSP slim. The internet radio is actually a player that you have to download to the memory stick, it's not part of the firmware (but probably required to use it). There's also some RSS improvements, OPML support and Photo RSS channel support. PS1 support will probably be expanded as well as it has been in each firmware update, though it wasn't mentioned.

3.8 is live. Enjoy your internet radio.

Also, if you have a PS3 with firmware 2.1 you can now stream divx to your PSP over remote play. Watched an episode of 30 Rock tonight to test it out and it worked great. Divx support directly in the PSP would be nice for the next firmware update.

The internet radio is basically a web page. Looks like you can use Shoutcast or Icecast. It is a mixed bag. The interface is kind of cool with nice sound effects when changing channels. However, it doesn't look like you can manually enter your favorite channels or save your favorites (I think it remembers the last one you used for each genre). You click on a genre (Boo, no comedy genre) and can flip through the top channels in that genre.

Could be better, but overall nice for a free addition. Lots of channels to choose from at least though I hate that you can't save some of them as presets.

Anyone try putting a PS1 game in the PS3 and playing it on the PSP? Sounds like a lot of people are having fun with that since the new updates.

Loving the Internet Radio.

PSP Media Manager is free now. The install is in Japanese, but the program is in English: http://www.jp.playstation.com/store/...ger/index.html

Will the good PSP news ever stop? Internet Radio, Streaming Divx and PS1 games through remote play and now they finally get a clue and give away the media manager. Loving my PSP right now.

That internet radio thing is so damn cool. I thought it would be a major hassle, like many of the PSP features have been in the past, but it's dead simple to use. Awesome, just awesome.

Psp from Japan

My wife got me a psp for Christmas, she looked online and found one but it
turns out it's a japan model. So aside from only being able to play region 2 umd's, what else should I know about it? So for it's been working fine, and I really like the thing.

Well this is a sweet little device. I got the latest firmware and the internet radio is pretty cool. I picked up a 4gig memory stick so I have plenty of room for music and movies.

Wow, I can download game demos and play them right from the psp! How cool is that?

I picked up wipeout pure.... wow, I can't believe how good it looks!

So far no problems with this region 2 psp

Yeah there should be no problem using the Japanese PSP for pretty much anything regarding games or playing your own media files, apart from the mentioned region encoding on UMD movies, which is pretty much a dead format anyway. Also, the new slim model is more difficult to get home brew stuff on than the old one which was easier to hack.
