360: Red Ring of Death

It is pathetic. I've owned an Atari 400, NES, SNES, N64, GCN, Wii, Dreamcast, Xbox and a 360.
Guess which two are the only ones that broke.

I just got the Red Ring of Death. I did that trick to find out my error code which read 0102 which according to the chart is an Unknown Error. How awesome, I'll try unplugging and replugging stuff and see what happens.

I had one red light before getting 3 red lights, it turned out the hard drive had problem. I don't remember the error code it was.

So there is still problems with the 360?? Damn, when it first came out I splurged and bought one. Played fine of course at first, then started locking up. When I bought NCAA 2007 and plugged it into my 360 for the first time, it just kept freezing up. I said forget it and traded it off. Now that about a year has passed, I'm getting ready to get another 360 in hopes that all the problems were fixed, but it seems this isn't the case. Plus I've heard of some problems with the HD Add on correct??
I guess I will have to go with the PS3. I mainly play sports games anyway. I haven't heard of many problems from friends that have one.

Mine got the three rings of death last night after the spring update. Turned it off and then back on multiple times. Tired disconnecting everything and plugging it back in. Still does it. It would have been a year old next month. Piece of shit. Good thing I have the 2 year warranty.

More Spring Update woes: death via update
Posted May 13, 2007 at 02:50AM by Ian C.
If you want read about two pages worth of sad stories involving the feared Xbox 360 "red ring of death" click our "read" link below. But before you do that, here's what's happening: People are getting the Spring Update, and their Xbox 360's are dying.
The common thread across most of the testimonies involves downloading the Xbox 360 Spring Update, having a few hours worth of joy, turning the Xbox 360 off for a break, and then turning it on again later, only to be greeted by flashing lights in quadrants one, three, and four. Others have noted that for some reason their units "revived" themselves only to succumb to the Red Ring again after playing a few HD movie trailers.
General opinions in the forum of Xbox 360 customer support for this situation range from "they were helpful" to "I think they're too busy...", so saying that Microsoft is "ignoring" this situation seems a bit too hasty. All we could add to this is that our Xbox 360 was generally ok, after the update. How about you folks, any problems?
Wow, from blue screens to red rings, we now wonder what dreaded error-thingie we'll fear five years from now. We'll update you when more info on the matter is made available. Stay tuned.

Well I tried unplugging everything and all that and no luck. I can't even get the code from it. I hit the sync button and the eject button and it just flashes at me. I can't see how it can be an overheating problem when the system is on it's own stand with two feet of nothing around it. At this point I don't really see the point of getting it fixed and getting another box if a year from now it's just going to go to shit again. I'm seriously thinking of just selling my HD-DVD drive and getting a Toshiba player and then dumping my "new" 360 on ebay. Stick to PC gaming until they can build something more reliable. I mostly use it to watch movies anyway with playing the occasional game.

There is a way to remove the update from your console, so try that first.

Who ever got the ring of death from the update better fight the price they put on repairs. They sell you a weak system then brick it with one of their updates so that you have to get it repaired through them. Nice way of making money there microsoft.
Dont pay to fix the damage they did to your system.

I assume when you spend $400 on a system that has a horrible track record most people would be smart enough to invest $50 for the two year warranty. Then again maybe not.

I never buy extended warranties. EVER. Through all sorts of computer parts, a laptop, 2 different DLP projectors, 3 different $150-$200 DVD players, all 3 last-gen consoles, etc
My track record: I did get bit once by the Panasonic CP72 DVD player
. And the launch PS2 got flaky (I traded it in towards the slimline).I bought the xbox where I could get an extended warranty, at Target, for $30. I've heard enough reports to know better than to buy it without an extended warranty. I swear the thing is practically guaranteed not to make it 3 years without a problem.

Haha I like your logic. If both yours and mine go through the three years without any problem I'll owe you a coke.

Guess what? After received replacement 360, I only played twice (both times are only 30 min - 1 HR) and the video is no longer works.
WTF?? Why would they sent me a shitty replacement? Why can't they just send a brand new one as replacement instead of refurbished one? It's so stupid...
