I want something that is much more cutting edge than that, that actually has new types of games and new ways to play games. The wii is the only one that is offering that IMO--or I should say they only one that currently has the potential to offer that as it could just end up being gimmicky control in the same type of games which would leave me dissapointed.

I'm really torn on my Nov. 17th-19th purchases now. I want to get both consoles if I can get my hands on both but considering I would need to buy an extra controller for each, plus I usually get 2 games when I buy a system, so I'd be looking at around 1200.00 for both in a matter of 2 days.
most likely I'll get the Wii on release and wait until next year(around March - my birthday) to get a PS3.

Fair enough. I care about neither graphics (current gen are more than good enough for me) nor huge worlds (hate free roaming gameplay).
If it wasn't for the potential of the Wii controler, I'd have no interest in any of the next gen systems right now.

I do truly hope the control scheme is more than a gimmick and really does innovate.

Hmm. I guess Kirby Canvas curse since it's only stylus.
Brain Age is a different type of game.
Honestly, I think the DS isn't that innovative. I just love it for the 2D games mainly.

Yeah, that one just came out.
There are some quirky games on it, but a lot of them I just find gimmicky rather than innovative.
The main draw for me is the great 2D games, with the odd stuff like brain age etc beign the icing on the cake.
A lot of touch screen usuage either feels tacked on, or is something that works well but doesn't really redefine gaming (selecting items, control in puzzle games, etc.).

Wii for me, day one. Looking forward to Zelda, ExciteTruck and Red Steel. Gears of War and FEAR will have to be on the Xmas list, as well as about 10 other DS games. I can't wait to try a Wii demo unit, they should be arriving mid-October.
For me, one of the greatest innovations of the Wii is the ability play a console game with two hands not bound to one controller sitting in front of you. I can play a game one-handed or with arms spread apart with the nunchuk attachment. Yeah some games will be having you hold the remote sideways to play (ExciteTruck, Tony Hawk) but a lot more of the games I'm interested in will require the nunchuk and then, my arms are able to recline naturally. Ahhh, comfort.

Why are you guys disappointed about the price? $250 with game? Its the cheapest release ever if you consider inflation. The DS was $150 with no game and its a portable.

They always said between $200-$250; I'm disappointed it's not $200, but glad wii sports was included, as I thought it would really showcase the possibilities of the Wii, but wasn't quite something I'd pay extra for seperately. If they released a small non-bundle at $200, I would probably get that. Either way, I want it launch day.
I do really like the way Nintendo is going with this. The DS was super cool, and innovative. I got it when the Lite came out. I'm very excited about the Wii. As for the PS3, not really caring. Will have to wait until it becomes another Dreamcast or Saturn and pick it up off ebay for $50.
(I doubt that, but $600? No thanks).
360, maybe if it drops $100. Until then, Wii all the way!

360 Premium ($400) + 3 Wireless Controllers ($50x3=$150) + 1 Game ($60) = $610
360 Core ... = $510
PS3 ($600) + 3 Controllers ($50x3=$150) + 1 Game ($60) = $810
Wii ($250) + 3 Controllers ($50x3=$150) + 1 Game ($50) = $450
To me it seems a no brainer in terms of price. And since I really maybe need only one more controller and Zelda to start with, I'm looking at roughly $350.
Let's hope the TRU Bundle comes stateside!

Although I'm disappointed that the Wii launch doesn't appear to be the home run that it could've been, I think there's enough there for me to pull the trigger on the 19th. No one game excites me very much - not even Zelda, sadly - but I also have a handful of Cube games that I haven't played since I sold that system a couple years ago.

I'm even more excited about the Wii after reading the quotes from other game company executives. Nintendo combined with excited and committed third parties is an unbeatable combination.

Its funny that a company finally takes a big leap in the way games are played and at the same time makes the past so easy to access.

I have about 10 games, which is much more than I've ever spent on any console in such a short period of time (since june). I picked up 6 games before I got the system even, since gamestop had a b2g1 free sale.As far as Nintendo taking a big leap, I'm equally impressed. I was just thnking about this yesterday: Every corporation, no matter who, despises change. It's too damn risky. Most only change when forced, and when the environment changes so much that they'll look outdated without change.
Nintendo went head-on into change without any real pressure (well, I'm sure lack of N64 and GCube sales helped). But Sony and MS weren't doing any crazy motion sensing, touch screens, or anything really. They were going in the same direction video games have always gone: better graphics, sound, and more power, with a few touches here and there to stay hip. But N went crazy and we're reaping the benifits. They knew if they didn't do something drastically different, they would never survive. And now they're on top (again, finally) in my book. Am I a fanboy? You betcha, after the way they've treated the DS. If Sony's PSP were prices at $130 and the games were $35 a piece, I'd glance at it. But they aren't being competitive, and it all looks the same to me.
/end of rant.

Some friends of mine are testing games for the Wii and from what they told me that nunchuck controller is a pain in the ass
I cannot tell you what games they are testing but it seems the controller is very sensitive (can't calibrate it? No...) and wrist pains are guaranteed after extended periods of play. My guess is that games designed for the Wii controller will be a blast while those that are simply ports for the Wii will be frustrating if not worked on and adapted.
We'll have to wait and see if the controller catches on or if it's just a gimmick.
Myself, I'll wait a bit after release and see where it goes.

[QUOTE=Michael Corvin]No kidding. I was thinking the same thing the other day. The lite was my first DS back in June and I've already picked up 10 DS games and 8 GBA games. It's easier to do when all the games are
