Thom, which store do you work at? I work at 4377. You should ask another store if they'd let you reserve one. Or have a family member for it for you, so they can't say it's an employee reserve.

I'm still hoping some store will have a nice deal on a bundle to get reserves. If GS did, I would do it there. As it stands, I have no incentive to place a reserve, especially since they don't want me to anyway. |

http://wiki.cheapassgamer.com/index....FAccessories_3 They do a good job of keeping those updated. Never going to be 100% right, but usually about 90% up to date in my experience. |

I may have to drag my ass out to buy it somewhere then. Oh, well. My sprawlville is big enough that it'll be available somewhere on launch day.

It will be interesting to see if Amazon offers anymore preorders prior to 11/19. I am assuming they had some idea how many they could presell since it was cut off after a short period of time. Not like some places who in the past have taken orders to simply take orders without the ability to fulfill the orders. Even if Nintendo can follow through on their promise of 4 million units worldwide by the end of 2006, there will be high demand for this console. The ebay bidding has already started with a system selling at $469.99 via buy it now. I believe alot of people will pay at least $400.00-$500.00 in order to guarantee themselves a system whether it is for themselves or to give as a Christmas present. Only time will tell. I will be selling mine once I receive my Amazon order. I picked two day shipping.

I only skimmed through the whole thread, but does anyone know if Toys R Us is doing anything special? I'm not really liking what I'm hearing about EB Games or Gamestop.

Ok, from the other sites, that EB/GC trade in only BS is indeed only in Hawaii and Guam, they are still not taking preorders here in the continental US.
Some have posted that they are saying they'll probably start in early Oct. after they find out how many units each store is getting in a manager's conference at the end of september. Some have also mentioned that they have been told that if they preorder a Wii game they will get a call when they start taking Wii system preorders. I'm going to swing by later this evening and preorder Zelda and see. Lastly, you can enter your e-mail on the website to be notified when they start taking orders, and I image the web store and the B&M's will start at the same time. http://www.gamestop.com/gs/wii/wii_signup.asp |

I called two EB/GameStop stores today, and both told me that they still aren't allowed to do any pre-orders yet, and they wont know anything for sure until the end of this month, first part of October, when they have some sort of conference.
|
The general manager of my local Gamestop told me on Saturday that they won't be accepting preorders until they get their allocation numbers, and that should be at the end of the week. He said to check back every day or two.

GameStop requiring trade-ins for Wii, PS3 pre-orders? Source: Reports springing up in a number of gaming hangouts, including Gaming Age Forums and Cheap Ass Gamer. The official story: See below. What we heard: Even on their best days, most gaming message boards are not known as level-headed venues where different ways of thinking are welcome or accepted. So when Cheap Ass Gamer forum-goer "Hack" posted a picture of a GameStop flier over the weekend that said the retailer was requiring the $50 deposit on Wii and PlayStation 3 pre-orders to be paid in game trade-ins (cash or credit not accepted!), there was naturally much ado. Gamers took the news and ran with it, spreading it around various message boards and getting a bit of coverage from news aggregators as well. However, as the news spread, it seemed certain nuances were lost. The original poster, Hack, updated his post to clarify things as he understood them after a call back to the store where he picked up the flier. "I will repeat that I never said this was official, or meant this to be an official nationwide announcement," Hack wrote in an update to his post. "As the beginning of this post has always stated (or rather, used to state), I'm not aware if this is a nationwide trend or not (and we have learned that it currently IS NOT). I do live in Hawaii, and therefore this could only be in my region. This is basically a small scale test of this new pre-ordering method. That means that if this test succeeds in Hawaii, it could possibly take effect nationwide." It seems the GameStop employee who filled Hack in had the facts straight. A spokesman for the retailer told us today that the pre-order stipulation is real, but stressed that it is only a test, and one that the company is conducting only in Hawaii. He also said the test began and ended today, and that the company doesn't have an official nationwide program for pre-orders yet. It's unknown if Hawaiian customers will get another crack at pre-orders in the nationwide program, whatever form it may take. The test is over, and it will be a little while before we see whether or not GameStop decides to embrace that strategy on a nationwide basis. However, it seems likely that GameStop, and possibly other retailers as well, would do something to improve their bottom line on console launches. Whereas the profit on new game hardware is traditionally very small, the profit on selling used games is considerably higher. Requiring trade-ins to cover the deposit would be one way for retailers to better their bottom lines without requiring the bundled purchases that have become common from online retailers, including GameStop's own Web store. Bogus or not bogus?: Bogus that the plan is nationwide. Not bogus that GameStop was using Hawaii to test consumer reaction to the idea. |
i hope to god this doesn't end up like the preorders with the 360s

Does anyone know if Costco takes pre-orders? I don't mean online, but in-store. If so, do they usually get a decent sized allotment? Any information is greatly appreciated.

I've been preoccupied trying to track down a Wii pre-order online or in one of the local stores that offer pre-sales. I missed the short lived offering in Amazon.com last Friday. So far, they're the only online store which has done the pre-order, besides Lik-Sang, but I've never purchased anything from them before and I'm not sure they'll be able to fulfill a US system with the Wii Sports game. Their website lists "what's inside the box:"
Nintendo Wii (Nintendo Revolution) Wii Remote Control w/ Strap Nunchaku controller AC Adapter for Wii AV Cable for Wii Wii Stand & Plate Sensor Bar & Stand 2 Batteries No mention of Wii Sports There's also no price shown when you add it to your cart. These are their Special Pre-Order Terms & Conditions: 1. Your pre-order is not binding and you can cancel at any time. 2. Once release details are known, you will receive an email that you need to confirm. 3. Should you decide to confirm, you will keep your position in the pre-order list. 4. Unit price and features are not confirmed and can change at any time. 5. Release date is not confirmed and might change. 6. The product is listed with a dummy price - your credit card is NOT charged. 7. All special pre-orders are limited to a maximum of 1 unit. 8. Depending on release schedule, you will be offered choice between European, US or Japanese. 9. Choices and changes are also allowed if several editions/colors are made available. 10. Once games and accessories are confirmed, you will be able to add them to your order. Calls to my local, Gamestop/EB and Toys R Us stores have told me that they're waiting for Nintendo to tell them how many units they're getting before they do the pre-order. They suggest calling everyday to check on that status. Now, some people are saying there should be plenty of units to go around for the holiday season, such as when the DS lite was released, but something tells me this system might be in very high demand, as the end of the year approaches, given the fact that it will be the most affordable console available, it might just become quite difficult to track one down. I'm curious to see how the console launch will develop this time. |
I'm thinking that our Amazon orders are going to get cancelled. Amazon added this blurb to the Wii listing.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...511949?ie=UTF8 "It's the news you've all been waiting for! Nintendo's long-awaited new console, the Wii, is now confirmed to ship November 19 of this year for $250, but now the big question is "So when can I pre-order it?" <b>We haven't started taking pre-orders yet</b>, but click here to receive an email alert as soon as we do. In the meantime, keep checking back here for more information on the Wii console, games, accessories, and more!" |

Amazon.com Video Games Editors Hi! My name is Jon, and I'm an editor working on the Amazon.com Video Games team. We know that everyone is excited to get their Wii pre-ordered... heck, we're anxious, too. Unfortunately, we don't yet have our launch allocation numbers from Nintendo, so we don't have any hard and fast data for you. For a brief period on Friday, we did offer pre-orders for the Wii, however, the rate at which pre-orders came in dramatically outpaced what we had anticipated, so we suspended pre-orders until we are able to get a firmer commitment from Nintendo regarding how many units we'll have for sale. Because the pre-order window was so brief, the e-mail many of you signed up for notifying you that pre-orders were available was never triggered to send out. We apologize and have fixed the system to ensure pre-order e-mail notifications are sent in advance. In the meantime, there are several ways you can stay up to date on the latest Wii information: Visit our Nintendo Wii page and sign up for e-mail updates Visit our Video Games store: http://www.amazon.com/games Visit our Video Games blog: http://www.amazon.com/vg-blog We apologize for any confusion regarding the status of Wii pre-orders, but hope this clears some things up. If you have any questions or issues, Amazon.com Customer Service is always ready to assist you, and I'll do my best to answer questions in this forum. Thanks! - Jon G. Editor, Video Games Amazon.com Pedro & Vypr & D., I can confirm that we will be honoring the pre-orders already taken. - Jon Daniel, I'm not sure I understand your first question. If you're asking if your Wii will arrive on the day of release, the simplest answer is that the 19th of November is a Sunday, and UPS doesn't deliver on Sunday. As to the exact date of delivery, we can't provide any specific information at this point because it has to do with how we receive the Wii shipments from Nintendo, which is something that's not yet completely worked out. However, we'll be working to make sure that the delivery date listed both here and on the order in your account gets updated accurately as soon as we are able to. Amazon customers get an email automatically anytime there's a change in the status of their shipment, so watch for that. As far as how we'll be taking orders once the initial allotment is gone, nothing has been officially decided yet. I can tell you, though, that when the Xbox 360 launched we opted to put up the incremental batches we received for sale only as we received them, to reduce any customer confusion. Hope that helps. - Jon |
Why does this have to be so convoluted?

My pre-order still shows delivery first week of October. At least it hasn't been canceled yet.

You do not have to worry about your system being cancelled. They are limiting preorders to one system until they find out exactly how many sytems they will be receiving. Your order stands as is.... "Greetings from Amazon.com. Due to the high demand of the Nintendo Wii and the potentially limited supply expected throughout the holidays, at this time, we are limiting all orders of this item to one per customer." |
That's good news. With all of the crazyness around black Friday, this is one less thing I need to worry about.
|
Stopped in gamestop on my way home from work and preordered Zelda. The guys working had no idea when they would start taking preorders for the Wii or any details about the preorder options.
I asked if there was anyway to get called when the start taking them, and they mentioned that they think they (or corporate) will be calling everyone who has wii game preordered, much like they just called everyone who had Zelda reserved for the GC to see if they'd like to switch it to the Wii. |
My GameCrazy had been taking "deposits" on the Wii since last year. Just two days ago we got the hotmail stating that we would not be taking pre-orders on the system, and to await further details. We have to date 27 people on the list. I spoke with my boss, and he said we would treat the "deposits" as pre-orders. However we do tell most of our guests that if they wished they may pre-order games, and accessories as they become available. I have a feeling though that the Wii wont be as hard to come by as the XB360 was, just my 2 cents.

My order for the Wii at Amazon (1 unit) has disappeared.

I pre-ordered the Wii back in June when FYE first put their signs up. I stopped by yesterday and inquired what number I was on the list since I was numero uno when I put down my deposit. The employee told me not to to worry and that there were only nine (!) people so far on the list. I'm still a little worried though considering the 360 debacle last year. I really don't think the Wii launch will be like the 360 launch but I'm glad it's big released on a Sunday. This way I can wait in line if it comes to that.
I'm having flashbacks to th 360 launch! I waited in line twice: once on release day and then on Black Friday when there were all those rumours of Best Buy receiving an allotment. I remember on release day I was so close to receving a ticket. The whole thing just seemed so sketchy. The line didn't seem that bad but then about an hour before the line in front me doubled. I guess friends held places for their friends and maybe some cut their way in. The minute those tickets were handed out people started to announce that they were selling their tickets for a thousand. I hope that Best Buy and others help curb all of the frustration this time. Having been a gamer for 25 years now and having witnessed the PS2 launch (I got one on day one), the 360 launch really felt like the ugliest time to be a gamer. Good luck to everyone who wants a PS3. I would probably pick one up if I knew I had a chance and if I didn't that it was going to be far worse than the 360 release. |
my amazon pre-order is still there. Got in about 11am Eastern on last Friday.
|
Saw some reports on some other boards that EB/Gamestop today has been telling people that Wii preorders will start sometime the first week of October (as opposed to sometime in October).
|
Take this with a grain of salt...but it is good news about EB/Gamestop preorders in the continental US if true.
http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/gamesto...ils-202170.php Although they aren't starting them now, here's the information I've got so far. (At least pertaining to my local store, located in Morgantown, WV.) 1. They aren't taking Wii pre-orders YET, but ARE taking pre-orders for Wii launch games (IE Zelda:Twilight Princess). That's $5 minimum down. 2. IF you pre-order a Wii game, you will recieve an automated call they day that they will start taking Wii pre-orders. 3. Wii pre-orders will not be delegated by the bundle you buy, but rather a "first come, first serve" basis. 4. Wii pre-orders are $50, and this does NOT have to be in trade-in credit. 5. If you trade in any old games/DVDs towards your Wii, you will get an additional 30% credit. The store location necessitates a "Lets Go Mountaineers!" from me. :D All good news for me, as that's just what I'm hoping for. |
My local GameCrazy isn't taking pre-orders per se. They are taking deposits on pre-orders, which might as well be the same thing. Basically, you have to keep $50 in your trade in account, or put $50 down, and they lock in your position on the pre-order list. Once pre-orders begin, they'll just move your money over to the pre-order in the order you were when you put it down. So, say you're the 9th person to deposit money, you're the 9th pre-order when it begins.
Goofy and stupid, yes. Did I do it? Hell yes. |
Besides Zelda what else are launch titles?

Metroid is NOT a launch title.

well i think wii sports and zelda either are or are not going to sell someone on a pre-order. I am looking forward to wii sports more than any game that has come out in a while.
