(the car deliveries are worth a ton, 50% more if you get it there with a
perfect). As you rank up the rewards for the races/challenges goes up. If
you're looking for a better car, try the used cars from the trade menu, they
frequently go for far below market value.
Once you rank up, to earn easy cash to fill out your car/house collection there's
a speed challenge just slightly west of the center of the map (near the farmlands)
called "180 mph in heavy traffic". This can be completed in about 15 seconds and
pays $70,000.

thanks for the tip on the 170mph race. I've been doing that one for a few minutes now. I've just been riding the shoulder in the on coming traffic side though.
I completely forgot about the used cars. I now own 4 cars and I paid full price on them all. I currently own the Saturn Sky with a Stage 3 Performance Upgrade, a Mustang GT, a Corvette Z06 and the C6.
I need to build up my $ so I can buy another house so I can get the Owner Achievement as well as giving me more space so I can get my Chevy Collector Achievement as well.

I can't find that race on the map
I did find the 170MPH one though, but I think that pays like $10,000

So can someone give me the overall gist of this game, besides the obvious racing answer? I haven't had a chance to go through the booklet yet, but I am wondering about how to proceed. Do I just open up the map and click on some challenges, or do I just drive around? I like the driving aspect, but it seems more complicated than PGR.

circuit tracks. While traversing the map, if you're on Live, some of the traffic you'll
encounter will be other players instead of just AI controlled cars (ala an mmorpg's map).
It's your choice as to whether or not you want to interact with these (flash your
headlights to instigate a custom challenge or head to a multiplayer icon for a pre-determined
race). If not, just go about your business as if it was a single player game (once you
enter a race no outside racers will be present or able to cut through your location) .
Challenges include standard races, time trials, speed challenges (hit x mph), package
or car deliveries (take package to x location in time allotted/deliver car with as little
damage as possible, zero giving you a 50% cash bonus), hitchikers/models (same as
deliveries, but may require specific types of cars).
You can buy any number of over 100 cars (new through the dealerships, or
used from other players by way of the trade feature), as well as property in
which to garage them. There are upgrades for the cars, but only in the form
of an overall boost in their performance (you can't choose a part here and
there). Be careful when upgrading reward based cars, as some of the higher
level upgrades can be frustrating to control on some vehicles and you can
only win one of each car.
There are roadside diners which serve as hosts to player created challenges
(you create a race/challenge, test run it to get a target time, cough up an entry fee, add
a cash reward, then post it. You get a percentage of the winnings and the entry fees).
You can create/join clubs (clans) and race inter club races as well as go club vs club.
There's a warp hidden on the island that teleports you out to an island to the southeast
where there's a test track.
There's probably a ton I'm forgetting -- like motorcycles. You unlock the bikes once
you've opened all the car dealerships.
Great game, fun to just drive around the island.

I've been looking for people that have this game. So if any of you want to add me, please do. My gamer tag is Asmodeus Vice.
Also if anyone hasn't done the referral code swap, I'd appreciate it if you could shoot me an email on xbox live.
I'd also be interested in the club thing.

they supposed to be included in every copy? Any idea what cars they were?
Maybe they're some of the ones that have gone to free download status and
newer copies of the game don't have the code (I bought mine a few months
ago).

so is anyone else buying used cars? I finally made it to Champion and I ran that $70,000 race over and over until I could afford the Enzo. I ended up buying a used one with a Stage 3 performance package for $500,000.
