I rented Stubbs and I thought it was decent, but very repetitive.

TNAJason 08-31-06 11:27 PM

Well I'm a HUGE Zombie fan(the selling point for the X-Box 360 for me was Dead Rising) and 2 of my favorite movies are zombie movies(Dawn(78) & Shaun of the Dead)

Assassin's Creed confirmed for the 360.

Heh, i couldn't resist even though i adore both games.

Elton John is gay btw. Ubisoft did a terrible job at keeping this a secret if they had some deal with Sony. Almost as revolutionary as Emergence Day.

This is one I have my eye on though. Looks very cool. Another nail in Sony's coffin? If MS somehow pulled down Final Fantasy would there be a reason to buy a PS3 for gaming purposes at all?

xmiyux 09-01-06 07:46 AM

I'm glad to hear this. While i don't like stealth games other than Thief, the time period of the Crusades seems ripe for a good story.

Not for me. This announcement means I won't have to buy a PS3 unit FF:XIII comes out unless there's some launch game that I don't know about yet that will make me want one (which I don't see happening).

The Bus 09-01-06 09:51 AM

That was the title I was looking forward to next year.

Still, if it runs better on the PS3, I might get the PS3 version.

Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2

Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2 has been released. Supposedly with this release you won't need Windows Media Connect anymore to connect your 360 to your computer. There are some rumors you can even stream video (not confirmed yet). I personally have had no luck installing the darn thing, it keeps saying I have to be connected to the Internet for it to be installed. Which I am connected to the net. Go figure.

Update found this on the windows media player 11 website

The new Media Sharing feature of Windows Media Player 11 lets you enjoy the contents of your Windows Media Player library from anywhere in your home. If you have a home network (wired or wireless), you can use Windows Media Player 11 to stream the contents of your library to networked devices. For example, if you have an Xbox 360 or other digital media receiver (DMR), you can use Windows Media Player to stream music, pictures, and videos from your computer to that device. This even works with music that you've downloaded from PlaysForSure music stores and services.

Metal Gear Solid 4?

Noonan 09-01-06 11:46 AM

As much as I love the MGS franchise it would not be enough to make me buy a new console even if it was reasonably priced. Of course that my opinion. I have a few friends who probably would. There are other games out there with the same style of gameplay which are just as good. There are plently of RPG's out there too but very few, if any can tell a story like most of the FF games do.

Canis Firebrand 09-01-06 11:48 AM

I didn't think MGS4 was a PS3 exclusive? I thought I remember reading/hearing that it would be on the 360 as well, but 6 months later then PS3 launch.

If WMP 11 B2 doesn't have the same drag on the system as Windows Media Connect, I may give it a try (Though I really disliked the first beta). I've found it much easier to simply load up a 2GB USB thumbdrive with music and photos and have the 360 play them off of that.

I never heard this anywhere. What I read was that Kojima said MGS4 could run on the 360 hardware with only a few minor changes, but he never said that it would be released on the 360. MGS2 on the Xbox sold poorly, so MGS3 was never ported. The 360 is getting more Japanese support than the original Xbox though, so there is a very slight possibility that MGS4 could eventually come to the 360, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting. The MGS series (along with Final Fantasy) are probably Sony's two biggest system sellers. If either one came to the 360, then that would be a huge blow to Sony. Remember way back to the N64, one of the biggest blows against Nintendo was when they lost Squaresoft to Sony.

Edit: Here is one link where Kojima says the 360 could run the MGS4 real time demo.

I'm installing this now and really hoping it does what it says. I rarely ever download betas of anything but I could never get Windows Media Connect to work.

You're right, it was a horribly kept secret. It is nice to get actual confirmation though.

At this point it's getting a lot easier putting off buying a PS3 until several price drops. Although I may very well change my tune next year if something amazing is announced.

I read that the video sharing won't work until the fall dashboard update.

Maybe that is what I was recalling and muddling it in my mind.

Right now it doesn't even see my 360 so at this point I'd be thankful if anything worked.

Sounds like you have a firewall issue. Make sure your firewall settings in windows will allow your computer to see the 360.

Mok 09-01-06 02:37 PM

Well I installed WPM 11 and I can see my music and pictures on my 360, but no videos. It would make sense that an update to the dashboard is needed to take care of the video issue. I must say this is much less taxing on the PC then Windows Media Connect.

That is good to hear. I have like 80GB of music on my computer, and whenever I need to restart it, Windows Media Connect eats up my CPU for a few minutes.

It wasn't seeing mine at first, but as soon as I turned my 360 on Windows found it.

mrpayroll 09-01-06 03:05 PM

Let me know when you guys can play video off of the computer thru the XBox 360 and I will install WMP 11.

I can already play music & show pictures, but I've been waiting for the video aspect to become enabled.

I'm confident it's a router issue but nothing I've ever done has fixed the issue. I could NEVER get Windows Media Connect to work and I really hoped this would be.

It says that Windows Firewall automatically adjusts itself once you enable media sharing. I have no major issues when playing on Live so the router works in that regard. I just can't seem to get lucky as far as the ports go. I know what ones need opened:

http://www.masterofdvd.com/Blog%20Pi.../Media%201.JPG

When I go in to set my router up I see this:

http://www.masterofdvd.com/Blog%20Pi.../Media%202.JPG

I plug in the ports, setting and the IP address of my 360 and get nothing. Since the first picture says Subnet I once entered in the Subnet Mask that is displayed in Network Settings panel of my 360. I still didn't get it to work. I even updated my firmware for my router tonight and still nothing.

If anyone has any ideas I welcome them since I've spent countless hours on this since launch day and I always walk away from it with nothing to show. I never have this many PC problems so if you think you know what I am doing wrong post something for me to try or IM me. Thanks.

You absolutely do not need to forward any ports in your router for Windows Media Connect to work. Port forwarding in you router is ONLY to allow WAN to LAN communication on those ports. Presumably your PC and Xbox 360 are both on the same LAN; therefore, all communication between them is LAN to LAN only. The router's NAT and port forwarding do not come into play in that scenario.

The problem lies somewhere between your PC and the Xbox 360 or in an improperly configured network. Disable ALL software firewalls on your PC including Norton, Windows Firewall, etc. Make sure that the PC and Xbox 360 are actually on the same LAN--i.e. both connected to LAN ports on the same router (you don't have multiple routers involved do you?).

edstein 09-02-06 10:31 AM

Check out this old thread on the subject. Look at my post #9 for a couple of screen grabs I made of my settings.

MasterofDVD 09-02-06 12:10 PM

I deleted all the changes I had made to my router and turned off Windows Firewall. I still had no luck with WMP 11. I might try messing with the stuff again over the next few days but I need a break from the frustration. Thanks for the help everyone.

Just one thing did you make sure to import all the pictures and music you wanted to share into wmp 11 ? If you don't they won't show up on your xbox. When you open wmp look in your picture and music library to make sure everything is there. I had to do this to get it to work. Good Luck.

mrpayroll 09-02-06 08:00 PM

So, has anyone gotten video to play from their computer HD onto their XBox 360 with WMP 11?

I tried it, doesn't work, I have no idea why they said on the website it could be done. Pictures and music work fine.

All my media was visible in WMP 11 so I guess that is one part I did right. :)
Oh well.

It will be implented in the fall dashboard update.

Despite trying a number of different things, I never was able to get any kind of communication between my computer and my 360. I'll give this latest update a try.

Has anybody heard of Senko no Ronde Rev.X? Is it coming out to the US?

I've seen it on someone's gamertag. I don't think it's coming to North America, though - at least, nothing has been announced.

movieking 09-03-06 02:31 PM

So I could actually connect using WMP 11, but can anyone tell me how I can get to the settings? I have been off and on with the connection, but can't figure out why. I want to see how it is set up, but can't find it with WMP11.
