Well I just tried my SECOND copy of the game and it is defective as well. I keep on getting a notice saying that the game is dirty or damaged every time I press start and then it shoots me back to the dashboard. Has anyone gotten a working copy yet? Every other game I put in my system works fine except for Dead Rising. I'm done exchanging for today. Will try it at a different Best Buy tomorrow. This sucks.

How widespread is this? On other forums I mean... I bought my copy at lunch today, so I'll find out the deal tonight.

If it's all over the net, I can see what Capcom has to say about it.

Total lockups now, 8.

The first time it locked up during one of the loading screens during the chopper ride.

The second time it locked up right after the title screen.

3rd. Locked up at the title screen.

The rest of the times it hasnt got past the Capcom logo.

I haven't gotten a dirty disc error like everyone else. So I have no idea what is going on.

Hmm....sounds like a possible bad batch of discs for this first run.

Damn, that sucks. I'm assuming it's still your first disc?

I only had one lock up, and that was when I restared for the 2nd time, during a loading screen. and it didn't "lock up" like it normally should, it just kept loading and loading.

I started the game up again and it played through most of the beginning fine. I was all happy once I got into the mall because all of the lockups happened before then. That was until...

all of my previous lockups happened during loading screens. This one happened during the game itself. hmmmm.

Turns out my problem was NOT my game as far as I can tell. I decided to do a test and removed the hard drive and the game worked fine. So now my hard drive is shot. I can't even get online anymore. I called Xbox and after much haggling and being put on hold, I'm getting a new HD for free. Reason is, I just payed $90 to get my Xbox fixed by them 2 weeks ago and they missed this problem. The sucky part is I'm going to lose everything on my HD!!!!!! What a mess.

Leechboy, I don't want to scare you but that pic is exactly what my old 360 started doing a few days before the red ring of death appeared.

I just went to pick up my copy of the game. I'll post again here pretty soon after I fool around with it for a few minutes.

I played the demo today. Thought it might be a fun game to try. It was decent, but very repetitive. That's what I was worried about. Not sure I am going to buy this now.

So far so good. I just want to go on record saying that the save system blows! I finally stopped playing...3 hrs of shit completed GONE. I guess that's what I get for being an idiot. I keep interpreting the save options incorrectly...
Poor Japanese tourists...

So a faulty HD can lead to "dirty disc" errors?

I've been getting them here and there and got the drive replaced too... I'm not spending $$ on Dead Rising if it doesn't work.

In my case it did. It could also be a problem with the laser in the console itself.

He is a little update on my situation.

After the last lockup I played a little Street Fighter and Table Tennis to make sure that the system wasn't messed up. No problems at all. After that I deleted all of the demos and videos off of my HD, someone over at gamefaqs said that helps. I then tried Dead Rising again.

I played for about 45 minutes with no problems at all. I really didn't enjoy it much because I kept worrying about the lockups. After I died I reloaded my save from the beginning of the game. So far so good. After I left the security office the game locked up again.
