I hate those 3 convicts in the jeep they always mow me down, screw that lady let her save herself.

It is finally happening. Almost a year after I sold my system, this game is the game that is making me get another 360. This time, it's not a do I need it issue, though. More like a birthday present for me,

Off topic a sec, what are some must have games now? I played PDZ, I played Condemned. No desire for CoD, or any sports games. I have Oblivion for PC. How does N3 look? What about the Outfit? Toss your recommendations at me.

Too many threads of where people are having to send their 360's off for repair after only having it for 6 months.
Friend of mine had bought his when it was first released and 8 months later it crapped out.

If you spend $50 and warranty your box then theres no problem. The worst thing that could happen is your box is in repairs for a few weeks.

exactly -- you could be sitting here reading about the fun others are having, and staring at the still-sealed game while your system is far away and for who knows how long :(

I got the maintenance key thanks to the video on YouTube that showed me where it was. My question is this:

Spoiler:
If I try and save someone way out in another section of the mall I'm guessing it's best to use the key to get away from the zombies? The problem is I don't see how you avoid the swarm of zombies right in front of the warehouse door. Does this maintenance key get you around all the zombies and back to the maintenance room that much easier or does it help you a bit and then leave you to leading the survivor around the area that was in the demo? I haven't really bothered with many survivors since I got the key because my first few attempts went so poorly.

You sold your 360 about a year ago? :wtf: The 360 has only been out for about 9 months, so did you sell it the day after you bought it or what? :hscratch:

Anyway, most of the best games for the 360, you already mentioned. Oblivion and Condemned are great. GRAW is good too, but it is hard as !@#&. There are quite a few potentially great games coming out this fall/winter: Gears of War, Lost Planet, Rainbow Six Vegas, FEAR, Too Human, Mass Effect just to name a few off the top of my head.

The problem is that everyone that has a faulty 360 is going to be vocal and complain about it while the people with good 360s never say a word because they have nothing to complain about. This makes the ratio of bad to good 360s appear worse than it really is.

You also need to remember that the 360 has been out for less than a year. First generation systems usually are pretty faulty. It takes them a year or two to get all the bugs worked out. The original Xbox and both Playstations had their fair share of problems too.

 Nice catch.

Just to weigh in on the 360 system issues, I've had one since shortly after launch and have never had any problems. Individual games have been buggy (GRAW and Oblivion, mostly), but the hardware's been fine. I bought the extended warranty to be safe, and I feel bad for people who have gotten bum systems, but so far so good for me. (fingers crossed)

As for Dead Rising, I played a bit more last night and I'm enjoying it more and more. I think someone here mentioned that you can give survivors weapons and food while you're escorting them, and that helps immensely. Give each survivor a melee weapon and they'll be much more capable of escaping the zombie hordes on their own. As you level up and can carry more stuff, keep some extra food on hand during escort missions so you can keep everyone's health up. I was able to successfully escort two people using this method, although one guy had a shotgun and kept accidentally blasting me and the other survivor. I also got to try out a motorcycle last night, and it makes for an amazing weapon. The nail gun and saw blades are also very useful, and the Mega Blaster is fun but pretty useless. It's really amazing how much stuff there is in this game - weapons, survivors, psychos, food combinations & so on. I did uncover a plot point around case 5 or 6 that doesn't make much sense:

Spoiler:
How does zombifying cattle help with meat production? :scratch2: I hope they elaborate on that a little.

but I'm still curious to see how it all turns out.

Hence the ALMOST part

I bought it in late December I believe, and sold it shortly before New Years, so more like 7-8 months, but still close to a year later. Kind of. :D

Thanks for the suggestions, though.

Will you kindly link me to this youtube video?

I decided to skip the Clown guy for now, and headed outside where I encountered the previously mentioned guys on a jeep. Man, they mowed me down quickly, and now I have to start all over again. At least I get to start with a higher level.

Liver&Onions, your Groundhog Day comparison sums it up perfectly!

NM, found the video.

Come on. I got the extended warranty and I hope I dont have to use it. BUT if I did, I think I could live without it for a few weeks without wishing I never bought the thing in the first place.

Someone on the fence about buying one is ALREADY going weeks and weeks without playing their potential Xbox. Worrying about a possible breakdown is a copout!

Agreed, but try having to send your system twice for repairs. I'm just saying that after plopping down $500 for a system and $60 per game (x 7 - that I have) - I don't think it is a lot to expect it to spend all of its time in my home, and not back and forth for repairs.

Mok 08-11-06 04:07 PM

The Shooting in this game stinks when you have a gun, every time I want to shoot someone they shoot me first especially that carlito guy. Heck with the shooting I try to cut them up like a thanksgiving turkey and I get mowed down. Damn I'm stuck -confused-

thematahara 08-11-06 04:15 PM

Rented the game, and so far I really like it. It would be a must buy for me but there is no way I could buy this game with the way the save system is right now. If they patch it in the future I'll pick it up.

My suggestion is to practice shooting a great deal.
Spoiler:
Of the 8 psychos/bosses in the game I believe I killed over half of them with guns and most of them I couldn't find any other way to take them out. An over the shoulder view or any other addition to what we have now certainly could of made the game easier but I think they wanted you to use guns only as a last resort......which I do.

Spoiler:
I personally got screwed trying to use the maintenance tunnels to save some of the survivors. The problem is not every maintenance entraance has a working vehicle. Some of them had trucks but I could only open the back door, not enter them. So the shortcut advantage is negated by the 1000s of zombies. I wasted a lot of time, health, and weaponry fighting to get down there just to have to fight my way back up.

I know there are working vehicles at the Paradise Plaza entrance and the supermarket entance. And I know the vehicles DID NOT work for me at the Entrance, Al Fresca, and Wonderland entrances.

I'm guessing there's a trick to those trucks involving holding a car mechanic book or something, though. Just haven't played around with it yet.

Would it be possible for Capcom to patch the save system? I am unsure how they work, but it seems like something like that they just couldn't change with a patch. Or am I way wrong?

Zodo 08-11-06 07:53 PM

Question for those that have this game: Couldn't you just start the game out without playing through the story mode but still save some people. Then once you've leveled up some just restart the game. That way the guy has more power and you don't have to spend so much time saving people since you've already done a lot of it.

Does this approach work?

In theory that would work, I think all this complaining about the save system is due to the point that a lot of us gamers are spoiled. So a game is a little challenging and you can't save ever 15 seconds. At first I was upset, but now I welcome the challenge. You could go around like crazy and kill tons of zombies and max out your level then save and end your game. You will then start from the beginning and keep your level and stats.

The Dude 08-11-06 09:06 PM

So do you actually have to beat the game in one sitting? I've saved a few times (early on), and when I restart I have to start back over from the beginning. This may be explained in the manual, but I'm renting the game, so sorry if this has an easy answer.

It seems if you save and quit you will start for the beginning with all your stats. What I do is save and exit to the dashboard and it starts me from where I was.

Stuck on 1-4.
Can anyone help?
After the old man refuses to come out of the bookstore (1-3), what the heck do you do next?
Looks like you need to something in that same section of the mall, but I can't figure out what.
Thanks for any help!

I can't remember, I believe you got back to the safe room you started the adventure in. Then the story continues.

While i can enjoy a good challenge my issue is not being allowed to quit when i want. At times i'll be squeaking in some gametime before dinner or before running some errand and being able to play for 15 minutes, save and quit is something i really want in a game.

ChrisHicks 08-11-06 10:28 PM

a different save setup would be nice. I was playing earlier and was just wandering around in sections I had never been in before. I ended up in that hallway where the security door was welded shut with a ton of zombies and no weapons. it was getting very close to night time too. I ended up getting a nightstick and a gun in the hallway but then my mom calls with a plumbing emergency. I try to find a save section but can't find one. I am running around like a fool trying to dodge what seemed like 500 zombies with glowing red eyes with basically 0 weapons since it took almost everything just to get out of that hallway. I ended up having to let myself die because I couldn't find a save spot so I could leave and keep th game going.
