I already had the HDTV.

But gaming was a -major- factor in my research while looking for a new TV. Watching TV/Cable was a secondary issue since a don't have cable.

I bought my first HDTV right after my Xbox 360. I got a pretty cheap ($800 after rebates) 32" Viewsonic LCD. There are a few reasons why I got it:

1) My LCD computer monitor broke, and I needed a replacement. Of course, it's not really ideal for a monitor, but it does the job and I had my excuse.
2) The price was right. I still want a huge TV, but I knew that I wasn't going to spend the big bucks for the top of the line just yet, and 1080p as a standard is right around the corner.
3) My Xbox 360. I STILL don't have an HD cable box, mainly because I'm so reliant on my Tivos anyway. And with Medium recording quality, my Tivo screws up the resolution of regular TV anyway, and I don't care that much. I do appreciate DVDs on the TV, but that's not exactly using the full resolution...

So the 360 was a huge reason why I got it.

ya i got my HD after my 360 and because i got the 360. I also sort of agree that the numbers may be a little skewed here. I just can't imagine all of those damn kids I am so lucky to meet on XB Live having HD tv's. yeah im sure there are those who have parents who have them, but i just feel that the it can't be this high of a percentage.

I got my projector specifically for my 360 (and dvds). Bought them a few weeks apart. Originally had the 360 plugged into my 66cm Panny crt that supports 480p (medium def I suppose) but it was really too small to play Oblivion on from the couch. The projectors native res is close to 720p so I'd class that as High def. 94 inches is big enough for me now.
Logically I'd say there's no point buying a 360 and not plugging it into a HD display. It's like buying a Ferrari and never taking it out of the driveway.
Realistically though I'd say it's 50-50. HD screens are a lot more common now and the next gen consoles are appealing more and more to the older market who can afford the big screens.

so far i think the poll results make that guy out to have the right answer, but we all love DVDs, and video games, HTPCs, and HD content here so don't flip out if you don't get the answer you wanted i think this is a biased poll here

Going to get skewed results on a DVD/home theater enthusiast site as a much higher percentage of people here own an HDTV than in the general public.

But I do imagine that a larger percentage of 360 owners have HDTVs than the general public as well, as Joe Six Pack isn't going to shell out $400 for a video game system.

But still, the percentage of 360 owners with HDTVs is going to be higher on a DVD site than say on a pure video gaming site where you will have gamers that aren't into movies and home theater stuff at all.

Yeah, I'm sure if you check with the 12 year olds on Gamefaqs they'll complain that their divorced parents haven't bought them one yet.

I play on a Sony KDS-R60XBR1... I didn't get the TV until after I got the Xbox 360, but I was in the market.

Until last week I was playing on a 30" Sony Wega. I thought it was excellent and was very happy with it. Last week I upgraded to the 50" Sony SXRD and cannot believe the difference. I read in the Oblivion thread that on a larger TV someone said it was a much more immersive experience, and I couldn't agree more. Especially sports games like MLB2k6 become much more exciting, I'm still in awe of the quality upgrade between the TVs.

Welcome to true HD Gaming buddy. Yes, theres lots of people who cannot fathom the difference until its in front of them, but its very, very apparent! First time i saw Lost Planet on my 42" i was in awe, game is gorgeous!

I played on a 27" Sony Trinitron for about 2 months after I got a 360. Then I upgraded to a 42" Sony RPLCD. It makes such a drastic difference that I now I wouldn't even bother getting a 360 without one. The graphics aren't much better then the Xbox on a SDTV.
