re: The Ultimate "What systems are you getting?" poll (from 2007; don't get excited)
PS3 and Wii, as predicted.
I'm mildly tempted to pick up a 360 and some cheap games (Gears/Mass Effect/L4D/Dead Rising/Crackdown), but I have so much to catch up for PS3 (Batman/Uncharted/Dead Space/Lost Planet/Infamous/Wolverine/Prototype/Valkyria Chronicles...)
I could probably not buy a single game next year and wouldn't exhaust that list.

I didn't vote in the poll originally, but I would have been on the fence for all 3 (PS3's price, 360's reliability, and Wii's "gimmick") and at the time, I didn't think I'd ever be the kind of person that owned more than one console. Wound up getting a Wii in September 2007 and a PS3 in November 2008. Subsequently ended up selling the Wii in June 2009 due to complete lack of use.
At this point, the PS3 handles all my gaming needs, so I doubt I'll ever get around to picking up a 360.

I wasn't on this board in 2007, but I didn't own any next gen console by the end of 2007, I was still plugging along on my PS2. I finally upgraded to the PS3 by snagging one of the last BC MGS4 bundles last year, and that is currently my only console.

If it's under $250, I'll get a Wii right off the bat.
I'll wait for the first price drop on a 360 before I get one of those.
As for the PS3, waiting for a price drop goes without saying, but I'm going to have to wait for a lot more, such as developers (on if they can exploit the PS3's architecture, since it's a lot more difficult to develop for than the 360), the games (hoping for a lot more than just ports) and so much more.
I'm surprised that price is such a factor for me, since I can afford to buy 10 of each console if I wanted - but I guess I'd just feel like a sucker considering I still have so many unfinished games I intend on getting back to, not to mention my PC is "top of the line" and handles 360-calibur games just fine (Oblivion looks/runs/loads better on my PC than it does on my friend's 360).

I did get a Wii right off the bat - I had no idea how lucky I was to pick one up just a week after it's release, and the only bundle forced on me was Zelda, which I was getting anyways. While it's certainly my least played console, I don't regret getting it, as besides the big Nintendo franchises, I loves me some modern 2D games, such as the last Wario game, Muramasa and The Boy and his Blob that are only on the Wii.
I did get a 360 right after it's first price-drop, and I got the PS3 when they put out their MGS4 bundle, which seemed like my last opportunity to get a backwards-compatible PS3, that, and I started becoming interested in blu-rays by then. And by the time I got the PS3, it had a good back-log of games such as Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank and more - so I felt like I got my money's worth. And since then, the PS3's pretty much become my entertainment hub, as I also stream a lot of stuff from my PC through it - I can do this with the 360 too, but besides being noisy, it's more glitchy than the PS3.
So, I definitely use the 360 more for games, but the PS3 gets far, far more raw usage when I add in playing blu-rays, upconverting dvds, streaming content and so on.
(though my PC ain't exactly top of the line anymore - I can't remember the last time I played a game on it, but it runs every thing I need pretty well.)

I originally said Wii and 360, but all the horror stories from friends with red ringed 360s put that one off for me until late 2008. I ended up getting the Wii and PS3 a few months after launch and I've been very happy with all 3 consoles.

Voted for all three.
360: waited overnight at Best Buy in the Michigan cold. Ended up with 20GB version due to lazy fat Best Buy manager who decided to ignore the line and numbering system the night manager had established, allowing people in the back of the line to run up and grab tickets. On one of my 2-3 returns to Microsoft to get fixed (RROD, faulty DVD drive, etc), MS replaced it with Premium version, don't know if it was accidental or not. Have since added an Elite as well
Wii: Pre-ordered it at FYE in May of 2006. Was #1 on their list. They ended up getting only 1 at launch. Walked in at noon (when the mall opened) and picked it up amongst dozens of people asking if they had any come in.
PS3: Pre-ordered it at FYE in May of 2006. Was #5 on their list. They ended up getting only 3 at launch. Not really willing to wait overnight for one anywhere - I went to Best Buy at noon a couple of days a week trying to time the UPS truck's daily delivery. Just missed it twice (including one time where the UPS driver actually bought the last one she delivered), and then third time was the charm - about 2-3 weeks after launch.

I pre-ordered a Wii and got it at launch. I did not reserve a PS3 because I wasn't planning to pay $600 for it, but when I found out I would be allowed to review Blu-rays for DVD Talk, I figured the $600 price point would be paid off by the amount of free titles I would get (I was right on that score). I would not have bought a $600 console otherwise. Now I'm glad I did, because I like the backwards compatibility and SACD functions of the 60 GB. I now use my PS3 all the time for multimedia, and my Wii hardly at all. The 360 still gets tons of use.

My answer in the initial poll was Wii and PS3, but I ended up getting no consoles in 2007, and all 3 in 2008.

Wii only, and even that will depend on more in depth reviews of the games.
I haven't bought a console anywhere near launch since the original PS, but the Wii may change that.
PS3 is way way outside what I'm willing to pay for a console. Perhaps somewhere down the road when it's about $200 with a bunch of greatest hits titles.
360 is just outside what I'm willing to spend and has some other things holding me back (mainly games that interest me). If I were still into sports games that didn't have Mario in the title, I'd probably get one...but Halo alone just isn't enough to do it.

PS3. It has the franchises I care about the most (Kingdom Hearts, Ratchet & Clank, Jak, God Of War) and the BR player will really make that freakishly high purchase price easier to handle. In addition, the interconnectivity with the PSP could really be a plus (like using the PSP as a Slingbox from your PS3 or downloading your music wirelessly to your PSP from any hot spot)-- those features could be really cool.
Of course, if the Wii is both inexpensive and a lot of fun I might get one eventually. And I have a replacement warranty from BB for my Xbox that's up in 8/07, so I'll probably upgrade to a 360 by then (assuming we ever get full backward compatibility in that system).

I actually ended up getting a 360 in 2006 and a PS3 in 2007 (and a Wii in 2008 for the kids -- I almost never played it).
Fun blast from the past. Who knew that chess was such a Wii-hawker? Apparently having the best high-def graphics wasn't always such a concern.

I'm also really jazzed about this game called Bioshock. So yeah, 360.

I also had plans to buy both a PS3 and 360 by 2009, and I did.

You'll find one game (Gears) and one friend (Decker) and your first post in VG Talk was in Aug 2008.
I call shenanigans sir!

Shenanigans are not serious, but if you were more truthful, you'd be on more forums.
Yeah, it was good times to see what we were thinking back then. The best part was when that dude voted in 2013 and said he voted in 2006.
