I know i have my 360 now and will be lining up for a Revolution. Probably will not pick up a PS3 since i never owned a PS2.

So far I'm only getting a Rev. There isn't anything on the 360 or PS3 yet that I need to experience. Maybe in 3 or 4 years when DQ9 or KH3 hit I'll be forced to sing a different tune. |
Too often, I feel like I've played everything before on my PS2. I mean, the games might have improved graphics, and the story might be different, but at the core, I've already played everything they have to offer. There are exceptions to this, so I'm speaking to the average here, not the exceptions. With really only seeing one game so far for the Rev, I'm excited for it. Why? It's different.
It's really the only console that has a chance to change the way we play games. The prospect of actually aiming the gun... Or swinging the baseball bat, or actually teeing off in a golf game, or swinging a lightsaber like that dude in those Star Wars Kid videos we all laughed at a couple years back makes me giddy with excitement. Couple that with the Virtual Console, and I'm so sold on this thing. I have a feeling it's going to take off. I could be wrong, but I really think it's JUST crazy enough to really work. That said, I think there's a place for the others too. My inner technodweeb will always be moved by "Bigger, Faster, and Shinier." Games like GTA or Halo will always have their place on my gaming shelf. Not because they're great graphically, but because they're great games. I think a lot of people are going to follow this line of thinking, and I really think the Rev. can latch on as that "second console." I know that it takes a lot more than graphics to impress me. I grew up playing Coleco Vision, Atari, and NES. Pretty much everything since the SNES has been graphically "impressive" to me, so 1.5 x the Gamecube's Horsepower, or 3x... Whatever that final number is will be fine by me. I don't really care if the game itself LOOKS like I'm looking out a window at it. I want to feel like I'm in it. And that has more to do with how it plays than how it looks. Get me entrenched in the game. Make it intuitive, yet challenging. I'm very excited by the prospects the Revolution brings to the table. Can you tell? :) |
I'm more excited about Revolution's downloadable games than I am the controller/remote. When I play a baseball game, I don't want to swing with the controller. I want to press a button. I'm sure it'll be set up that way, but I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't want to act out my movements while playing, I just want to set there on my ass and press whatever button is necessary. However, it is a cool idea and I'm sure it'll appeal to alot of people. I will definitely be getting one at launch. Last I heard, Nintendo still isn't supporting HD content. If so, I still think that hurts somewhat, as everything is going in that direction.
I own a 360 and I still think XBOX Live will keep it around for quite some time. They have all but mastered online gaming and keep adding new things that are making more and more sign up. Plus, you know Microsoft will be developing lots of stuff to add to this machine. So both consoles seem like they have plenty of features to guarantee they'll be around. I'm wondering what Sony will have to offer that will set itself apart from the other 2, other than a higher price. :p I know Blu-Ray is their main selling point, but as far as gaming goes, I wonder how that type of format is supposed to set itself from the rest. I'll get a PS3 eventually, but it looks as though it'll be the last one I get of the new generation consoles. A year ago, I think I was saying it would be my first....times have definitely changed. |

If the game developers are smart, they'll include options for both styles of player. With the controller ports on the side, I think there's room for more traditional gaming experiences, though I think we're deluding ourselves if we think that experience is going to equate (at least visually) with what the others will be offering. That's why I think the second console stance is a very smart move on Nintendo's part. Also, we have to keep in mind that not every game will require standing or extreme interactivity. A lot of it will be point and click style, ala a computer mouse, I imagine. Either way, It's going to be very interesting to watch in the coming 12 months as everything takes shape. |
Didn't Nintendo say something about somehow powering up (for Example) Super Mario Bros. graphics/sound with Revolution power on the virtual console?
Even if Goldeneye and the like arent there, there's loads more stuff I can think of - some games that never saw a UK release would be nice like Super Mario RPG (the forerunner to Paper Mario) or the original Paper Mario on the N64 as well. :) |
This is interesting:
http://revolution.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=6561 Sadness In Black and White April 11, 2006 by: Phillip Levin It seems the amount of news on Revolution games improves with each day we move closer to E3. Today, NIBRIS told AMN an interesting piece of news about its upcoming Revolution title, Sadness. According to the company, its project will feature visuals composed entirely in black and white. “We [NIBRIS] decided to follow Nintendo's path, which definitely fights the stagnation which has occurred in video games, and creates new trends,” an NIBRIS employee told AMN today. “With this move, we want to create a unique environment, which is only available in Sadness” |
I would avoid using the words "trends" but interesting nevertheless.

Every day brings something cool. November can't come soon enough. Damn you Nintendo!
E3 is is going to be amazing. It is cool how you are going to see the smaller companies(who are about games) embrace the Rev. while the corporations like EA(who are about money) churn out mediocre sequel after mediocre sequel on the other two. |

Besides, I think you will find quite a few original titles for the 360 and PS3 too. The competition will breed it. |

I have always watched new releases with interest, and was excited for titles on systems, but nothing like this. Halo had me excited about the Xbox, GTA made me finally break down and purchase a PS2, and of course Mario and Zelda always made me buy a Nintendo platform, but never have I been excited about hardware possibilities. I really do get excited about games more than hardware, but just the idea of the games that I can play without even any solid launch details has me tingling. |
Another look at Red Steel:
http://gonintendo.com/wp-content/photos/rssmall.JPG Man talk about great free promotion for Ubi soft, being the first revolution game revealed and all. Nintendo must have some faith in the title. |

Suposidly, EGM claims a new piliotwings is in develpment. FYI Now where's "gimmepilotwings" for this news? Nice way to start my morning, thats for sure. I had only been checking these threads about once a week for updates. Now I may need to check it more often. |
Vibration, Recharging, and batteries
OK, this controller is obviously wireless But, will it vibrate? What type batteries does it use? And can we re-charge them by plugging them into the console? I am very excited about the 2 USB 2.0 ports! |
Honestly, they could do away with vibration and I wouldn't mind. In comparison to what this controller can do, vibration is a gimmick.

Imagine firing a gun in a game, and then having a decent vibration so it actually causes you to jerk the weapon back slightly. Or being damaged and the vibration causing you to jerk the camera. I think it could have some very interesting applications on the Revolution. That is ofcourse if it is a strong enough vibration/feedback. |

On another topic has anyone had the vibration break in their controllers? Mine is gone in my Xbox controllers. It sounds awful. |
Does anyone else think that the people in Red Steel all look like cardboard cut outs?
At low res the screenshots look pretty good, but now that they're blown up it doesn't look all that great. I'm also wondering about all the different hand movements you'll have to memorize for each game. For Red Steel it sounds like you have to move the controller in a special way just to move against a wall. |

It would be very cool to have the controller vibrate when your sword clashes with another sword.

Those Red Steel shots look very good IMO

Ubisoft declares Revolution - "magical" and says more Rev. games may be on the way.

"I can say definitely, as any other developer, we are looking at this magical platform, and we want to be part of the adventure," Mallat explained. He made mention of Red Steel, which was recently announced, and added: "And I'm pretty sure we'll see other Revolution games from Ubisoft. And some of them, I'm sure, will be made from Montreal." Ubisoft Montreal employs more than 1,400 people and has upward of 12 games and fewer than 20 in development for current and next generation consoles, according to Mallat. The former Prince of Persia producer turn CEO noted to Gamasutra that it will have a big E3 2006 presence, where it will show off new IPs and sequels to existing franchises. Montreal is responsible for some of Ubisoft's biggest hits, from Prince of Persia to Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. On a side note, Ubisoft has also announced next generation versions of the Rayman franchise, and sources have indicated that a Revolution version is in the works. People without fancy theater setups have an easier choice, but for ports, I can see Nintendo losing out again, at least to the HD crowd. |
