$249.99 is my guess. Will be extreme wait and see for me unless they shock me and launch at $199 again in which case I'd buy one just to support them for keeping costs down. :D

I think Nintendo likes $200 and is going to stay the course.

The Xbox360 premium unit will probably be $50-$100 cheaper by the time this launches so $249 is not going to cut it in the US. |
I hope so as well. $199 would be great for them in terms of sales, and great for me as they'd have to have some fucking killer titles at launch for me to cross the $200 barrier.

I would love to see it sub $200 but doubt if it will happen. This coming up gen will be very interesting. Nintendo doesn't seem to be directly competing with anyone this time around. They seem to be trying to create their own niche and become gamers second console and non-gamers only console. For me it will be my first and possibly only one.
It will be very interesting and I think the prices will be more all over the board then group as they were before. The XBox clearly has made an impression by pricing so high and all indexes point that the PS3 will be expensive. So how will this play out? MS doesn't want to lose money this go around. Sony has such a huge user base and is promising a super computer so theirs is going to be expensive and I'm not sure where Nintendo is in terms of price. Lower than the others for sure but how much so? One things for sure with the rising prices of games, rising demand, and higher cost machines it will get very expensive very soon to be a gamer. |

Yamauchi Hiroshi stated that Nintendo was going to aim to get the hardware into the hands of the consumer at lower prices so that they could afford even more games. He went on to speak of how it is not Nintendo's intention to make money on the hardware, but on the software. That was back just before the GCN launched. Yamauchi passed his position on to his son-in-law who is taking steps to continue and expand what the three prior Yamauchi's did. So, I doubt that you will ever see a Revolution at $300 and quite likely at $200 with a fifty dollar price drop a year later, much like the GCN. |
How much will the controller be on its own? Maybe $40.00 to make up for the wireless/rumble/pointer? The nunchaku attachment should also come standard with any extra controller(s). Maybe throw in a couple of free downloads as well. Iwata recently said in a G4tv interview he is pushing Miyamoto for a Mario Revolution launch. Duh.

Nintendo won't launch over $200. No way. They will make it up in spades with their first party titles. They will, no doubt, use the controller in more effective ways than what a third party will put out out of the gates. They will be must own games.
|
The launch at $200 and it'll be the first next generation console I buy. I have two girls on the way and I can't afford to buy $400 dollars system's anymore. Not to mention, Nintendo always has solid launch titles.

Michael, that's why they profited greatly from the N64 despite less popularity than they would have liked and the only reason they can make hardware. LivingINClip, congrats! And you may want to think back to the GCN launch. It lacked the usualy gleam. |
OK, I just looked at the controller pics over at IGN all I can think is what the fuck? Does anybody else hate it?

Just some thoughts...
The concerns about 3rd Party developers not being able to simply port over titles to the Revolution.... isn't that sort of the point? I thought Nintendo did this to differentiate themselves. Nintendo pretty much lives and dies on exclusives anyway. Either a developer finds a unique angle for a title on the Revolution, or they don't bother. I just figure the people who want to play the PS2/360 type games will just buy one of those systems instead of/in addition to the Revolution. As for the remote part, just because it has the wand-like ability doesn't mean every game HAS to use that feature. Even without it there is still an analog stick, a D-pad, 4 readily available buttons, plus several slightly out of the way buttons. For me the most exciting part of the controller is the "attachment" part. So far they've only addressed the analog stick attachment, but there is a lot of potential here. Games could come with all sorts of different game-specific attachments. |
I agree. Nintendo isn't designing this to be the console for current gamers that just want to play the latest GTA or Ratchet and Clank, etc.
They're trying to bring in non-gamers (who obviously weren't into these types of games or they wouldn't be non-gamers) and people like me that are on the verge of becoming a non-gamer due to being sick of getting the same games with a fresh coat of paint, as well of sick of the "eXXXtreme" "mature" nature of many games. This may bite them in the ass, but I couldn't be more anxious to see what kind of games they come up with for this controller. And I'm also anxious to see what other attachments they come up with. |
Me personally, I would rather have my cake and eat it too. I want the innovative titles but I also want the ability to play the latest Prince of Persia if I want. Just because it isn't radical doesn't mean it isn't a good game. Most people have several consoles, but I don't really see myself buying more than one until way later in the game. So while I applaud their innovation (as I always do) I would also like to see them make their console accessable to other more traditional developers as well.
Judging by some of their comments they seem to want that as well. I just hope that developers are aware of that and port some of the games to the revolution as well. |

Yes I know that. But that info is really only based on a side comment by Nintendo. I don't know how much they are going to push that and if developers will take advantage of it. My purpose of the post that while I am a huge Nintendo supporter I also really want 3rd party games to be widely available.

It was an official announcement concerning the shell, not a side comment. It will come out and it will be used for more traditional games. As Hinkle said, support will most likely mimic the GC. You'll have your big N exclusives, along with some limited 3rd party support from creative teams wanting to try something different. I suspect the big multi-platform games will make it over using the shell (or even the GC controller ports). I can also see some developers try to incorporate some of the features onto already existing franchises that would play normally on PS3 and 360. |
Thought this was interesting regarding possible Nintendo Revolution specs...
http://www.audioholics.com/news/edit...utionSpecs.php Is it okay to post links? I don't remember. Basically, there was some dude who was pretty dang accurate on the Xbox 360 specs, and now he's spilling the Revolution specs. According to him, the Revolution is going to be a lot more powerful than originally thought. |
