Is there any way I can talk to a customer service agent not located in India? They don't seem to understand my problem and it's soooo frustrating. Every year I re-up my subscription in November, and this past January I found a 3-month card that I added through the console menu to my subscription. Instead of tacking on 3 months, it overwrote my subscription and it expired yesterday. Sure enough, I got charged for another $50, when my subscription shouldn't have ended until February 2007.
Can I write a letter to someone? I just can't get through their freaking script over the phone.

Is there an option for Spanish in the menu system? Saw on one of those news shows that 9 times out of 10 the CSR speaks English as well and you get through quicker. So pick that one, can't hurt to try. MIght get you through to a different batch of CSRs.

If you used a credit card, when you put in the 3 month card, it should have refunded to your credit card the remaining balance that you did not use, prorated.
If it was a pre-paid card, I'm not sure.
That is why you aren't supposed to pile on cards on top of an active subscription.
In theory, what you posted should have worked. But this is Microsoft.
Renewing Your Xbox Live Account
If you have an active annual or monthly Xbox Live® subscription, you can instantly renew it by entering a new subscription code at any time.
For instance, if you’ve already subscribed to Xbox Live and then receive another 12-month subscription card or a second Xbox Live Starter Kit, you can use the included code to extend your current subscription, without starting a new account. You don’t have to cancel your old account, you don’t pick a new Gamertag, and you don’t need to let your subscription automatically renew.
The best part is it’s simple to do. From the Xbox Live Dashboard:
1. Go to Account Management.
2. Select Subscription.
3. Select Modify.
4. Enter the last four digits of the credit card you used to sign up for Xbox Live.
5. Select Subscription Code.
6. Enter your new subscription code.
That’s it! There’s no need to call Xbox Live support to cancel your original subscription because your account will use the new code as soon as you enter it—with your Gamertag, Friends List, and all your stats intact!
Note: If you modify a monthly or annual subscription using a subscription code, you will receive a refund for the unused portion of the monthly or annual subscription that you’ve paid for. However, if your current subscription is from a subscription code, the second subscription won’t become active until your current subscription is over, and there is no refund. For more information, see XBox Live Service Refunds

I've always renewed with a credit card, so it looks like I should have received a refund.
*heads over to look at past statements online*
Edit: Damn it, they didn't refund me the difference. Bitches.

Yep.. and if you just renewed in November, it should be 3/4 of the $49.99 fee. Give or take a little bit. Since you in effect voided that renewel in January, you only used and paid for November - Janurary. Therefore you should receive a refund for the remaining days from Janurary - November.
Look around a Jan or Feb statement for the refund.

So, what are you playing most, BD? Can't come over tonight. Wife's birthday.
Well, at least not until later.

Last resort would be to contest the charge, but it might be too late for that. And you would most likely lose that gamertag and have to create a new one if you subscribe again.

I normally end up playing after wife and daughter go to bed. I stay up a good 2 hours past them each night to get some gaming time in. That is why last night and my wife being sick through me off.
I'm waiting for her to take off to bed when she informs me she is sleeping downstairs due to being sick tonight. I pause, torn between concern for her health and the impulse to get myself in huge amounts of trouble by saying, "but, but i wanted to play Oblivion." Thank God survival instincts kicked in and i did not imply her illness was less important than downloading horse armor or assassinating some pesky family.

I can just imagine her look of shock and horror as you turn to her and say, lovingly, "But honey, can't you be sick upstairs? I've got a family to slaughter, a horse to protect, and items to fense. What's a busy thief to do?"

My son is just 2 months old and whenever I volunteer to give my wife a break she always ends up finding me downstairs with the baby in my arms outstretched while still clutching my 360 controller. It's hard balancing being a new daddy and a lifelong gamer. And I can't stay up late because I take over the feedings from 4am 'till I leave for work at 7.
Back on topic, I'll go the email route and see what happens... but I haven't received any charges for renewing on my subscription yet, even though I got the confirmation email today. I'll wait until I the charge hits my card.

My daughter spent many an hour as a wee wee one in my lap while i played Phantom Dust. I lucked out on the feedings bit. Since my wife is breastfeeding it means i don't have to get up in the night. Which is a good thing since i am an evil bastard when something or someone wakes me up.

At this point just Call of Duty 2. You can come over if your Wife gives you the OK. Did she like the roses from Costco?

I wish my area had that fiber to the curb stuff. Those speeds look nice. And it isn't too expensive either.

I think that anything over 350K up is good enough. You are always going to have some lag from other players in the game. All you can do is get your connection as good as you can get it.
It would be nice if we had a person with a crazy upload speed because we would have an excellent host for our games. As it is, we are generally at the mercy of whoever has the best connection in the game.

For many if not most games a 128kbps upload will be just fine if all you are doing is joining games (assuming you actually consistently get near 128kbps). You will not, however, be able to host your own games (except when playing "smart" games like Halo 2 that determine who is the actual host not by who started the game but by who has the best connection). I had 128kbps for a long time, and it worked just fine. There are a lot of reasons for lag other than low upload speed.

Would this DLink DGL4300 gaming router help me out with my 128 up connection to Live? It seems to be getting rave review everywhere I search.
