Do you have a Media Center PC or are you just using Windows Media Connect?

I finally solved my dropped connections issue with my dlink Dl-624 router. I updated the firmware and no more problems.

Yeah that fixed the issues with my 524 dropping the connection too. D-Link must have let some crappy firmware slip out.

You are choosing "Music" on the 360 rather than "Media Center," right?
Oh I most definitely picked Music.

I'm downloading everything all over again just to be sure that I wasn't so burned out the other day that I messed something up.

I'm still having no luck.

I installed the .NET Framework 1.1 and rebooted. Then installed the .NET Service Pack 1 and rebooted. Then I installed .NET Framework 2.0 and rebooted. Finally I downloaded Windows Media Connect and rebooted. It's now running and showing the 360. I clicked to share the device and selected a few folders I wanted to share. When I'm on the 360 I click on Music and then on Computer. I click past the crap telling me to go to www.xbox.com/pcsetup and each and every single time it fails to read my PC.

Since MS already agreed to service the system I'm going to send it in. I am hoping my buddy will bring his system home this weekend so I can hook his system up to my router and see if his can connect to my computer.

I can't shake the feeling that it's a PC problem since all this stuff was easy to setup the first time right after launch and has worked fine since.

Have you run Network Setup Wizard on your PC?

FINALLY got my Premium system yesterday (whoo hoo) and set things up last night.

It's my first time with online gaming, so I set up my XBox Live stuff, the wireless modem (the one made for the 360), etc... and things seemed to be working well.

I only had one issue.. and maybe its a stupid one but I couldn't figure it out (ok, it was 2 am... that could have played a part. LOL)

Anyway, I downloaded two demos: Fight Night 3 and Need For Speed (is that the name? Whatever the 1.25 GB one is).

It took awhile to do... but what I noticed was that when I'd leave for a bit I'd come back and the download had stopped. I'd restart it and it would pick up where it left off.

I noticed a screen saver come on at some points, but often when I hit a button it would just go back to the download screen and still be going... but other times it would have stopped the process.

Am I missing something? I don't know how to gauge the signal strength, but I have to think its really great, as the router is in the next room AND the PC located five feet from the XBox says its signal strength is "excellent."

Maybe there's a setting I've missed? Maybe this is typical? etc. What I don't want to do is get online and play against someone and find that I'm getting dropped.

Any advice you might have would be appreciated. Like I said, sorry if it's a stupid question... but I scanned a bunch of this thread and didn't see something that jumped out as the answer.

You could always HARDWIRE it....not sure if you want to drill holes through walls though.

Drilling isn't an option...the ways the rooms are configured. And like I said, the signal is great on the PC. Is there a way to check on it with the XBox? I couldn't find one if there is.

I had a very similar problem whenever I started a download and the file size was 45 meg or greater. I would be kicked out of xbox live after 5 mins of downloading.

My wireless router is a Linksys 4 port G (can't remember the model number). By chance I happened to want to replace the wet 11b bridge(this is attached to the 360) with the G version. After I did the switch all my problems vanished. The connection is now very stable and fast.

also keep in mind that if you have a 2.4 GHz cordless phone that can cause problems with WiFi signal. Trixie and I had to upgrade our phone to a 5.6Ghz unit.

This still sounds like a software firewall on your PC is preventing the 360 from seeing Windows Media Connect. Are you sure you have disabled the Windows Firewall and any others you may have (Norton, ZoneAlarm, Kerio, etc.)?

Don't worry......I'm pretty much done here. I won't clutter up your thread too much longer.

I might be overreacting by trying to sell the system since up to this point I've had fun with it. I guess if the HDD was bigger putting my music on there would be much easier. Maybe I should hold out until the larger HDD units come out because this "20 GB" one just isn't going to cut it for long.

So if I've read the information on this thread right, the overheating and disc problems are all issues exclusive to the Core Systems? The Premium Systems are problem free?

I have a core system and have none of those issues.

If you have a 360 with a gray dvd drive, you'll be fine.

Pelican and Nyko are both releasing products that you snap on the 360 and it keeps the system "cool". Pelican's comes out on 1/25. Nyko's in April.

No. An internet rumor was started about that, a few people have picked up on it, and now it has become something that other people are concerned about. There are no "facts" that support the rumor.

Of all the people that I know who have 360s (about a dozen), only one had to be sent in for service... it wasn't due to a faulty drive or overheating...and it was a premium system.

Quick question. If you purchase a 12-month subscription card...specifically the value pack that comes with the headset, how long do you have to enter the code it comes with? Is this a code that doesn't expire? Just wondering because it will be a few weeks before I pick up a HDD.

I know the value pack comes with a $20 game rebate. Is this mail-in or is it a coupon? Thanks.

The 12-month value pack I just picked up says both the subscription code and Bankshot Billiards 2 download code must be used by 6/30/2007. The $20 game mail-in rebate must be used by 6/30/2006.
