Dunno if this has been posted but according to Joystiq:
Xbox 360 costs $715 to make
http://www.joystiq.com/2005/12/28/xb...s-715-to-make/

MS is losing $300+ on every 360! MS is sure to go the way of sega at this rate!!!
!!!
!
1!1!1!!!

thematahara 12-29-05 07:31 PM

MS could lose 10,000 per unit and not go the way of sega.

So, has anyone hooked up an external Hard Drive to the 360 to use as a media system?

I'm thinking about loading up my extra HD, dumb all my music on it and throw it in an external enclosure. I would just use WMC, but it seems to slow my PC down. Just wondering if I would have any problems with hooking up an external HD with all my music on it.

This was probably posted in the Bargains Forum, but not everyone goes there. Fry's circular (LA Area) for this weekend shows them selling Condemned : Criminal Origins & FIFA 06 for $44.99.

This seems like an excellent price. I just played the Condemned demo last night and it seemed pretty good. But people are saying it is very short and probably not worth $60, but $45 might just be worth it.

Anyone else having trouble downloading demos from Live? I could have swore that I saw a thread or a posting on it, but I can't find it now. I have been trying to download Condemned all night, but it is only at 55% and then it times out.

Michael Corvin 12-30-05 11:18 AM

I've had that problem on the arcade games and trailers. Just cancel the download and then download again. It picks up where it left off.

I was having problems last night downloading Condemned, but I finally got it after a couple of hours. The Quake 4 demo went a lot smoother. I bet a lot of people are downloading the Condemned demo, more than the Quake 4 demo, because it was there first.

Just give it time. The Condemned demo is pretty good. I think they took most of the gore out of it, just in case young kids downloaded the demo. But the demo is only about 30 minutes long, kinda short.

I just got my Xbox 360 and was playing around with the guide, it says you can change themes on your guide. I have tried to find the setting to do this with no luck, can anyone point me in the right direction.

thanks.

jonw9 12-30-05 12:29 PM

I believe themes are under your preferences choice, on the menu that pops up when you tap the center 'X' button. I comes with several choices.

I like the fact you canuse a picture of your own as the background, but I wish you could also use your own pic for your user icon.

On average, how long does it take to download the demos? You can't do anything else while it is downloading...right?

I believe that is correct. It takes between 1 and 2 hours to download a approx. 600 MB demo. The 3 demos so far, Kameo, Condemned & Quake 4, clocked in between 550MB and 600MB.

You're forgetting more than half of the demos.

FIFA '06 - 497 megs
Madden - 699 megs
NBA Live - 495 megs
Need for Speed - 962 megs

I haven't seen these demo's under the 360 Dashboard. Where are they?

1-2 hours? While I haven't timed it, I'm almost certain it took me less than an hour to download the Condemned demo yesterday. It timed out, so I had to download again to continue where I left off, but total time was still under an hour. The service I'm signed up for is 4 Mbps download. I guess the next time a new demo comes out, I'll time the download to be sure.

I'm 1.5 Mbps, which is typical DSL :(

Weird- I haven't seen the NFS or NBA Live demos in the Marketplace, but have found the others, including Condemned and Quake 4.

Found the NFS demo under all games. I had to restart the download 4 times. It is also downloading the condemned demo extremely slow. Mind you I am on Verizon Fios with 15 down and 2 up and it feels like I am on DSL.

I am leaning towards taking it back. Don't get me wrong the games look good, but after playing the NFS demo I was bored with it.

Took me a little less than 20 minutes for Condemned last night. So glad I dumped DSL for cable.

ChrisHicks 12-30-05 08:39 PM

I just downloaded the Quake demo and it took me 25min. and I was also web browsing on my laptop and downloading a torrent on my desktop. not too shabby in my book.

movieking 12-31-05 11:36 AM

Took me hours to download Condemend, but I was downloading a ton on my computer, so it balances out :)

DVDGamer 12-31-05 12:34 PM

Maybe one can create a sticky for available 360 playable demos?
