Metal Gear creator says that MGS4 could be done on the 360 and that there is BASICALLY NO DIFFERENCE between the 360, PS3, and PC.

1up.com story here

Copy and paste of the relevant stuff.

1UP: With your debut of the Tokyo Game Show Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer, which has seen wide distribution in both Japanese magazines, online, and in the U.S. Official PlayStation Magazine recently, it really heralded the dawn of the next-generation. Everything else has been polished and nice, but this was so powerful, so compelling you even had to do a real-time demonstration at TGS to prove it was running on PS3 hardware. That said, it makes you wonder how much of a gap there is between the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Do you think you could create MGS4, technically, on 360 if you wanted to?

HK: Yes, that's technically possible. I want to express, first of all, it's not that I don't like Xbox or 360. It's just that last year, our hands were really tied to MGS3, so the other Konami developers were able to get their hands on the 360 tools and hardware earlier. But we simply didn't have time to do that last year. So, meaning that we were behind the other developers in terms of 360 development. Kojima Productions has this philosophy that we want to be the first in everything regarding new technology. So after we finished MGS3, the option was to work on the PS3 to try all the new things for Metal Gear Solid 4. The only reason for this is I'm the kind of person who wants to be the first person on the moon, and don't want to be asking "what the moon was like?" from other people. So that's the real story behind selecting PS3.

1UP: It's interesting that you think you could do this on 360, though.

HK: Maybe some nuance or a small details here and there might be different, but I feel that hardware is no longer a matter. I'm just talking about PS3, 360 and PC. Revolution is totally different, but there are really no differences among the other three.

So I asked this question a couple of weeks ago and now that I actually have a 360, I'm going to revisit the question.

It looks like the wireless adapter, which looks like this

http://i4.ebayimg.com/02/i/05/b2/09/3b_1.JPG

uses a USB connection to the 360.

My current XBox wireless adapter uses an ethernet connection to connect to the XBox. I don't see any way of using my old wireless adapter with the new XBox 360. Unless this might work?

Has anyone successfully used their old wireless adapter with the 360 and how did you connect it?

Thanx for any help in clearing up this matter.

Chris

I don't understand; why wouldn't you be able to connect your old wireless bridge to the ethernet port just like you did the old xbox?

I guess I was just assuming my old one would work (netgear wgr something)

I apologize. I haven't opened my box yet and I just assumed (yeah I know) that since the official wireless adapter was USB, that there wasn't an Ethernet connection on the 360. But I guess most people will still be using the wired Ethernet connection to connect to Live.

So hopefully it will be pretty simple this weekend to just connect my wireless adapter into the ethernet of the 360 and it will work. Hopefully! :)

Do you have the old official Xbox wireless adapter?

So, does anyone OWN the Logitech 360 remote ($130 one)? I'm curious how good it actually is since I need a universal remote. I would like it to control a few of my components:
Sony receiver
Comcast Cable Box
Mits TV

Good option? Seems nice and can be had for around $93

fujishig 12-19-05 11:51 AM

I got the Logitech Harmony remote... it's actually like a rebadged Harmony 520 with extra buttons (the four xbox buttons). Got it for that discounted price online, and I sent in the $30 rebate if you buy both it and the Xbox 360 (doesn't have to be on the same receipt).

IMHO, it's a great remote, though as always with this kind of stuff, your preferences may vary. It's backlit and has a small LCD screen with four buttons on it... Anything that you don't want to map to the normal buttons you can put on the screen (and scroll through pages and pages of them). It's built to be easy to switch components around: so you set up activities (which are displayed on the LCD screen), like Play Xbox360, which will turn your TV, reciever, and 360 on, switch the TV to the right input and the reciever to the right input. Once you choose this activity, the buttons are mapped to control that activity... so the volume button will be set to control the reciever volume instead of the TV volume, etc. When you press the power button, it'll turn off all of the relevant systems.

The one caveat is that it doesn't do straight macros: so you can't tell it to emulate, say, 5 button presses in a row when you press a single button. You can put this kind of functionality at the beginning or end of an activity. For example: My Sony WEGA does not have an aspect button, and to do anamorphic squeeze I have to go into the menu and select it. The remote does not allow me to map that sequence to a single button... but I did setup an activity called "Widescreen DVD." This activity does everything my "Watch DVD" activity does, but at the end I added the extra menu steps to enable anamophic squeeze.

Setup is done through your computer... you connect the remote to a computer via the included USB cord, and can use either the included java-based program or the website to configure. The caveat with this is that if the website is down or ever goes away, you're stuck. The good thing is that you can program everything ahead of time and then upload the settings to your remote. Also, it's constantly updated, so it should have every conceivable device... if it doesn't, you can contact Logitech support to add it. (you do have to look up the exact model numbers).

Never owned a high-end remote before, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I like it. I especially like that my wife can now setup the TV to play a DVD at a push of the button, without me having to change everything for her.

And for the record, I finally opened up and connected my XBox 360 to my system and my old wireless router receiver worked flawlessly. All I had to do was connect the ethernet to the 360 and I was up and running on XBox Live in a couple of minutes.

Downloaded the Kameo demo and it is pretty sweet!

Thanks for the remote review....I may get it for Xmas, so if I do GREAT. I still use my 4 remotes currently. Glad it should be able to switch all my inputs.

Where can you find the remote for $93? After the $30 rebate, $63 isn't too bad for a universal remote...

On a different note, anyone having chat issues with Call of Duty 2 on LIVE? I was playing it yesterday and I could nto hear anything or no one could hear me. I know the game has LIVE glitches, hopefully they figure them out. I know my mic is ok since I can private chat fine.

I never understood why Sony gave out cards that supposively gave you benefits (but really didn't). Microsoft picking up that same idea is worthless. They need to send out coupons and demos like Sony does, rather than pass out a stupid card.

I do agree that sending out coupons such as $10 off next Xbox related purchase would be nice.

Although there is no need to mail out demos anymore as you can download them directly from Xbox Live now.
