Hardest Level/End of Level in a game

The one that sticks out in my mind is Mace Griffin. Even w/ the cheat codes I was never able to finish the final level (literally like the last thing that needed to be done in the game). My ship would always get jammed/hung-up some place because everything was shaking and I never made it out
Currently I'm stuck on the PDA level of Tron2.0. Reflexes aren't quick enough to make all the moves that need to be made in the time they give you (or I haven't figured out the proper sequence yet). Sucks getting old

I agree with Mike Tyson. I refuse to believe anyone has ever beat him.
Aside from that the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on NES had an impossible level (The swimming level). I hate that game.

NES Battletoads. You are required to have Jedi-like reactions later in the racing level. "Go Ani!" (Sorry, just realized this is not even close to the end level ...)
NES Castlevania. My buddies and I would play this game after school just about every day, and Dracula (either in suited or beast form) would take us down methodically. We also had an even more frustrating element at play; when fighting the Grim Reaper, if too many of his sickles would be floating about, the game would lock up. If I recall, his level was right before the last. D'oh!

Tyson was THE final level when I was younger. My friend was the first one to beat him and I was in awe. When I finally did it I felt like I accomplished something. That was more meaningful to me than being able to diagram Level 9 in Zelda for friends in Social Studies class (which I was also able to do, Ganon was my bitch). The first Mega Man blew too.

I too never beat this game. Subsequently, I never bought any of the sequels.
Too much challenge can be a bad thing.

I hated both NINJA GAIDEN on NES, I had to get agame shark just to beat it!
On recent games, CLOCK TOWER 3, CASTLVANIA for PS2, DOOM 3 final stage made me want to break the controls!

Last level of Castlevania III was ridiculous too. I never beat it.

I read the title too quickly and thought it only asked for the hardest END level of a game. Thinking back to games I owned and never completed, there was a level in a NES game called Gumshoe that I could never beat. I think the level was underwater, and there were a bunch of sea urchins rising from the bottom of the screen. I don't have my Zapper anymore, so there's no way I could go back and try to beat this level now.

Star Fox Adventures......
I loved that game, was a fun adventure game all the way out and then the final guy was impossible as it became a shooter and so out of line with the rest of the gameplay

I'm also glad to hear that people had trouble with the end of Metroid Prime. Game was so easy to that point that i was embarrssed at how long it took me to beat it.

Both the reviews reference the difficulty.

It's not a level, per se, but the one game that frustrated me more than any other was the Gamecube F Zero. Don't get me wrong, driving games often upset me, especially when they reveal my lack of skills, but I HATED finishing first in the first four races of a GP and then sliding off the edge in the fifth race over and over again. Argh!

Phantasy Star II, though, I never did beat the last boss. I think you had to go a ways to get there, and then die pretty quick, so I only tried a few times.

Hardest level for me in a game was the grand prix in Burnout 3 with all the indy cars. I spent many, many hours on this. It was the second to last level, but the last level was ridiculously easy in comparison. I threw the controller a few times, after having a great race and then crashing at the end and losing.

Not really hard but tedious, that Star Wars game for the Gamecube had a level where you had to defeat 99 waves of tie fighters before you could beat Vader. Took hours.

Not quite as hard as Ninja Gaiden or others that have been mentioned but the CIA level in the original splinter cell caused me to hit my coffee table with a hammer several times (I was in college and the coffee table was just a wood plank that was stained and bolted to egg crates).
I'm having a helluva time in GRAW on the 360 on the second to last level as well.
Something about those Tom Clancy games!
