Next Gen bandwagon jumping??
I already have a GC/Xbox and a PS2. PS2 gets more usage then the rest (i have a DC, Saturn and more in the closet not being used). I have a 42" Plasma monitor and i use it for my PC and for gaming (Street Fighter 2 - Championship Edition = the bomb on the plasma).
Im 100% ready to jump into the next gen bandwagon, and since the PS3 isnt out yet im really contemplating a xbox 360. I walked into best buy last week and they had them in stock, i was about to buy one but i held back. I looked at all the games available for it and they all IMHO sucked. I was honestly ready to pick one up, but i find myself just waiting for a ps3 more and more, since all my fav games come out on sony consoles vs any other system. Also, since both will have a hard drive this time around, it makes the choice a lot easier to wait.
I really do want to get a 360 tho, but i just dont have a compelling reason to, as ive played the majority of the games out so far and honestly, ive been pretty disapointed so far. It all comes down to me wanting to jump on the bandwagon but my senses are stopping me and telling me to wait. On one hand, im disapointed im not enjoying HD gaming already. On the other, im excited for my other prospects, the ps3 and rev. Which brings me to my ultimate question.
The more i think about the Rev Virtual Console, the more excited i am. However, what will put it over the edge for me and make it truely amazing, is if they'll be setting up a system where you will be able to go online with someone else, and play a NES/Snes game 2-players over the net. For example, say my buddy in detroit logs in and starts up a game of contra and i jump in via california, and we play 2-player NES contra till the finish.
Do you think this is a possobility? If it is, i will have a rev at launch no matter what it takes, the ps3 im not in any major hurry to get even when it does come out, as i know its the system for me and ill be patient enough for all the dust to settle and jump in when the time is right (i got a xbox early and got a ps2 some time later, i regret it lol). Anyhow, sorry for the long rant, i just think about this next gen transition so much in between playing Wild Arms 4, Resident Evil 4 and waiting for KH2 to be released!

Getting a launch system is always frustrating because its very rare that you find much worth playing the first 6-9 months the system is out. I'm waiting it out until all three have their cards on the table and we see exactly what we will be getting. Revolution is high on my list mainly because it seems like it will be a rather low cost investment with some fairly unique gameplay possibilities, however, E3 will help fill in more about that. I'm just not very excited right now by the prospects of $400 consoles and $60 games and that is really what the Xbox360 and PS3 will be all about for the next couple of years.

Downloads are good, but online play will sell people on the Revolution all by itself. As much as I love gadgets/toys, console launches are far and away the worst time to buy them:
1. Faulty hardware
2. Sub-par software
3. Price drop all but guaranteed within 12 months

My concerns for the 360 are the same I had for the first Xbox -- Games! About the only 2 games I enjoyed on the original Xbox were KoToR and Jade Empire, aside from that the only reason I still have my Xbox is for emulation purposes. Now, my choice of gaming is primarily RPG's so, imo, the Xbox was not a good RPG console. I think the lack of support from Japan is a big factor. With the 360's dismal launch in Japan, yet again, I'm wondering if the 360 will fair any better. I hope it will.
With Nintendo & Sony I know I'll have a larger selection of games to choose from because they do have that support and I'll more apt to buy their console at launch than I would one from Microsoft. KotOR is what got me to finally buy an Xbox and Blue Dragon, the new RPG from Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, might be what gets me to finally purchase a 360.
If I were you I would base my decision on the games before the hardware. If there's games on the 360 you want to play then get one, otherwise I would wait.

If you want something that will make your plasma look amazing, get a PS3. Sony has announced 30 titles at launch, plus it will play all your PS1 and PS2 games, so you should have no problems finding games to play.

I'm most excited about the Revolution, just thinking about playing all the old nes, snes and n64 games again make me giddy like a lil school girl. I've been more of an Xbox fanboy the last few years but when the Revolution comes out, it will be mine, oh yes...it will be mine..

Yeah, the Xbox 360 lineup isn't going to change any time soon. If you don't like what you see now I can't recommend anything but to wait. To be honest, I don't think the first year of the PS3 will be MUCH different but at the very least there should be a few games outside of the very narrow Xbox 360 target market.

I wonder if the weaker lineups in video games is similar to when dvd launched. We didn't get Star Wars or Jaws or any other big hits until after enough people had dvd players. Same thing will happen for HD-DVD and/or Blu-Ray.

I would've been more inclined to go for the Xbox 360 if they had more exclusives. Most of the games right now are either available on the Xbox/PS2/Gamecube, or on PC.

I LOVE my 360, even if I've had a few problems. MS fixed the one problem, but another arose. I know it will be solved, and they will compensate me for my problems. I still like my 360. As for the launch lineup, I enjoyed it. Condemned is GREAT, Call of Duty, PDZ, the 2K6 sports games...fun stuff.

It all depends on what type of games you like. In my opinion no 360 owner should go without at least playing COD2, Condemned & Kameo. They are the only 3 MUST OWN titles, IMO. Three 4 star games from three different genres.
Burnout is just around the bend as well as Top Spin 2 & Fight Night 3 in the next couple of months. All of which look amazing.
You also can factor in the arcade games because some of them are more addicting than 360 games themselves.

I'm going to jump in with another vote for the 360 kicking ass. COD2 / Condemned / PDZ are tremendous games, and next week we get Fight Night Round 3 and College Hoops 2k6. I haven't even gotten around to opening a couple of the others I have, but I am more than satisfied with my purchase.

Yeah, the 360 lineup has done nothing for me so far as there are few exclusives and the exclusives they do have are mainly FPS games. Only Kameo has me interested at all.
But that's fairly typical at launch, even with Nintendo systems I find little I want to play and end up buying a couple of games at $50 that I don't really like much just to have something to play on my shiny new console.
I may still get a revolution at launch IF, they have the virtual console up and running by then. I'm more excited about having instant access to all the classic games than I am playing anything new next gen.

Another vote for the 360. Man COD2 in 60" HD and DD5.1 is the most immersive experience I've ever had playing a video game. It's the only one where I immediately played it again on the harder level upon completion, totally ignoring the other four new games I had waiting. Now I'm totally enjoying Need For Speed: MW and Dead or Alive 4, not to mention those kick-ass XBOX Live arcade games like Marble Madness and Geometry Wars. Looking forward to finally opening up Perfect Dark Zero as well.

I completely agree here. I at first was seriously wondering why I dropped $500 for a launch system, but once I picked up Condemned I realized why. I've got Kameo sitting on the shelf to play one I finish Condemned (1 more level) and Gun.
And yes, the arcade has actually blown me away with the quality of titles in there. I do think I play Hexic and Zuma more than I play PGR3 (which is also a good title).

Another thing I like about the 360 and before with the XBOX was/is the improved Live setup. Microsoft has a great setup for online play and with the 360, there are plenty of newer features from the old Live. The dashboard is very well laid out, the marketplace was a great idea, and of course the gaming. I'm not sure Sony or Nintendo will be able to match their online setup. But I could be wrong...

I doubt you are wrong. MS was willing to lose money last gen to get Live up and running. They have nearly perfected it now, so it will be damn near impossible for Nintendo or Sony to match it.
I don't buy the selection gripes. I think the 360 has had one of the better launches when it comes to choices. They cover just about every genre. There is something for everyone. Only a handful weren't available at launch and with the shortages persisting buying in now or in a month only gives you more options than those people on launch day.
FPS - COD2, PDZ, Gun, Quake
Adventure - Kameo, King Kong
Every sport is available (NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, Snowboarding, Skateboarding, Soccer, Golf) Tennis & Boxing soon
Racing - PGR3, NFS:MW, Ridge Racer, Full Auto
Fighting - DOA4
Survival/Horror - Condemned
Puzzle - handful of Live Arcade games
RPG - Elder Scrolls IV in 4 weeks.
Sure there is only a couple of options in each genre, but it is still an impressive showing for 2-3 months into the systems life. Compare that to other launches.

The 360 has more good games than any other console launch ever, even within the initial 90-day window. However, most of those games are available on other platforms or on the PC, as Groucho stated.
It does not, however, have a great game, like the launches of Xbox (Halo), SNES (SMW), N64 (SM64), etc.
If you buy a 360, PGR3, DOA4, COD2, Condemned, and the many arcade games should keep you entertained, if you are warm-blooded. And when you're done with those, there's always NFS:MW, Amped 3, King Kong, and Kameo, which are enjoyable.
