The RE remake was good, but it was a remake that didn't really do much. I mean the graphics were good, but didn't really do all that much.
A game like FF7 would definitely sell simply because of the updated graphics and sound and whatever they do to it as long as they don't alter the core gameplay and story. This series resonates so much with people and especially this one because it is simply one of the greatest games ever made. I'm not being a fanboy as I've never played any FFs and I've played many games in many different genres and this is a superb game.

And no I've never played it. CGI-movies with sparse gameplay aren't my thing.
<-- don't kill me, all in good fun.At any rate, the user base for FFVII is still with Sony, they are going to get those sales anyway, so I doubt it will generate newer consumers for their new platform.

The only mistake Sony is likely to make is the price point for the PS3. *I* believe that normal consumers have a threshold of about $300 for a video game machine. Mine is closer to $200.

2. Being 10 years old or so, lots of gamers today never played it so if it's totally redone it's just as appealing as if it was Final Fantasy XIII since it's totally new to them and looks like a kick ass next gen game.

But a totally remade FFVII would be damn hard for me to resist and I'd probably end up picking up a PS3 down the road for it as I loved the game back in the day and hardly remember the story etc.

I also don't think they need a system seller. "Playstation" is an amazingly strong brand with consumers...stronger, in fact, than I think most folks on here believe.
Hope this doesn't sound like I'm on the Sony bandwagon. If anything, I think I'm more of a Nintendo guy these days. Just being realistic about the market.
Honestly, the 360 looks a lot like the Dreamcast to me...and I'm not talking about the color.

But I still think the FFVII remake would help, it won't make or break the system, but it will give people that much more incentive to buy one. Same thing if MGS4 is at or near launch.
