I don't think you can make a fair comparison in the PS3's launch to that of the 360. The PS3 will most certainly have all the hype surrounding it much like that of the 360, but last November, the 360 was the only option you had to get yourself into the next generation of games.
Why do you think 360s sold on ebay for so much? The demand was high, the supply was low, and there were no other alternatives.
It's now the end of the year. The PS3 is ready for release with it's set of launch titles, but just to get your foot in the door, you've got to spend a minimum of $550 + tax which can't get you the next generation of high definition movies (1080p) which was part of the PS3 hype.
So what has Sony done? They've alienated the gamers who just wanted the PS3 for games because now, these people DO have another option seen in the 360 or the Wii...and if MS decides to drop the price of their 360, it only serves to sway more potential buyers into their camp.
So, the way I see it, those who absolutely need to play the 1st party and exclusive games on the PS3 will make up a huge percentage of the early adopters of the console. Sony's problems for this round is their high price and consumers having other options to choose from.

I actually see very large price drops soon after the PS3 is released. Part of the high cost of the PS3 is the Blu-Ray drive, which is unnecessarily eating up a major chunk of the cost of the PS3. As blu-ray drives costs come way down, the PS3 price will follow. There is no way that Sony wants the PS3 to stay at $400 a couple years after launch. My prediction is a $100 price drop in May 2007, and another $100 in Sept/Oct 2007, and another $100 in May 2008. That's the only way they will be able to stay in the game against Nintendo and Microsoft. Considering the #1 game series is premiering on the 360 this fall with Grand Theft Auto 4.

GTA4 is coming out on both Xbox 360 and PS3 simultaneously, it says so on the rockstar website. There is some exclusive content for 360 however, although whats to say there wont be some for PS3 once they get a feel for how their online service is.

Considering the speed that the PS2/Xbox price drops occured, I'll have a PS3 around 2012
I'm sure I can't hold out that long, though. I'll look into it around late 2008.

are you on crack? there is no way, and i repeat, no way the price of the system is going to be cut in half in 18 months time...trust me
you will be lucky to have a $100 price cut in 18 months.
i am not a big sony fan and am very much on the fence about whether to pick up a ps3 at launch even though i can afford it, so i'm not going to post a bunch of venom about screw sony this...can't believe they priced it at that...blah...blah...blah, like everyone else is doing. i think i am going to bookmark this thread and start a txt file of people who adamantly state they are not getting a ps3, sony's not getting my money...and see which of these people have one at this time next year.

I don't think there will be a quick price cut but I would imagine by 2007 there will be one.

The video quality in 720p looks awesome. The game looks pretty boring, till the aliens come out, then it looks awesome, especially with whatever that was that broke through the brick building. Gears of war looks a lot better tho.

That trailer is fricking awesome. It looks like Raiden is the new ninja. I noticed that Snake's suit looks to have some type of chameleon ability now that lets it mimic the background. This will probably be like the camo system from MGS3. I also noticed in this new trailer that Snake is no longer wearing that fancy eye patch from last year's E3 trailer. I wonder why they got rid of it.
Maybe it is just me, but the scene where Snake is saluting the grave surrounded by white roses reminded me of the ending to MGS3. I wonder whose grave that was too.
I remember in an interview from last year that Kojima said that Snake will not die in MGS4, but after seeing this trailer I wonder how that will be possible. Naomi told him that he is aging so rapidly that he only has 6 months to live. Also, by the end of the trailer, it appears that Snake wants to die. I hope Kojima does not do some lame copout ending where they find a miracle cure to the rapid aging.

We know the end of the world is coming when parents are dropping $600 on a video game system for their 10-year-old.

There's no way in hell I'm spending $600 on launch hardware though.

I personally know only *1* person that has had to re-buy a ps2. I know theres stories all over the net about how bad they are, but if you listen to the net, all xbox 360s come standard with 3 flashing red lights.
