The price of BR units has nothing to do with the price of a PS3. As kvrdave has repeatedly pointed out, the BR image quality of a PS3 will not be as good as the
image quality of a standalone player. People who really care about having BR right now will not be waiting for a PS3, and people waiting for a PS3 weren't going to buy a standalone player, anyway.

The only thing Sony has to gain by not releasing the price is to fuel speculation that it's under $500 when it's not, since Nintendo is almost certainly going to release a price for the Wii at E3, and the Wii is going to sweep in coverage.

I also highly doubt Nintendo will release the price of Wii at E3.

Sure most likely a stand alone Blu-Ray player will look better but will it be so much better to be worth such a price difference I doubt it. Im just saying the lack of price announcement could mean anything. Maybe we will get a price announcement at E3 after all. Hopefully.

Well, Nintendo certainly doesn't need to release it, but they could really take the wind out of everyone else's sails by showing off a ton of amazing stuff all the way through the convention, and then close with, "Oh yeah, and the Wii is only $200." But that's a discussion for the Wii thread. Right now, Sony is better off maintaining speculation.

I would argue so is Nintendo. This Christmas Sony isn'tn't going up against MS, they are going up against Nintendo. Don't get me wrong, the 360 is a serious contender, but as far as Buzz goes its Sony and Nintendo.

By keeping thier price secret, nintendo forces Sony on edge by providing another variable to their marketing mix that makes it difficult for them to account for. (IMO)

I think Sony has ran up against Nintendo recently with a device far more powerful and more expensive. If memory serves they are getting their asses handed to them by Nintendo.

I don't think I would be so quick to write off Nintendo as a non factor. The stupidely named console has by far the most interest at E3 this year.

In Japan, Sony's main competition is Nintendo. Worldwide, Sony's main competition is Nintendo. Only in America is Microsoft considered Sony's main competition, and I think after the Wii comes out, even here we'll be looking at the big fight between Sony and Nintendo.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be an action-RPG follow-up from the Kingdom Hearts team.

Don't care about the main game but this one has my interest (for the gameplay, not for the teen angst). I'm torn between wanting this to come out quick so they can get to Kingdom Hearts III and wanting this to come out in a couple of years so I can get a PS3 after a price drop.

FF13 for the PS3 is kind of like Halo 3 for the 360, we all knew it was coming, but it's so far in the future that it doesn't matter too much.

Sony is still stating that the PS3 will have WiFi, Bluetooth, Blu-Ray, internal harddrive, USB, Memory Stick, SD, and Compact Flash slots.

They did make one other change, looks like L2 and R2 are now triggers rather than just shoulder buttons. L1 and R1 still look to be buttons.

Very good price. Half the price of any Blu-Ray player and far far greater value. I will preorder one as soon as I can.

I watched the entire press conference and i was very unimpressed. I can't justify spending 500-600 on a gaming console.

after looking at all the screen shots the games dont look bad but they dont look any more impressive then whats on the xbox 360. nothings coming close to the Kill Zone 2 CG video, probably why they didnt show it
