I agree. Seeing these screenshots does nothing for me and I don't even feel motivated to watch any of the tech video demo's as they aren't real games yet, especially since one of the "game demo's" at last E3 was later found out to actually a tech demo as well (that FPS game). The only game I have no doubt they will achieve the level of graphics is Metal Gear Solid 4.

maingon 03-26-06 05:30 PM

them tech demos look amazing if games look that good WOW, but I dont think they will from screen shots of real games like this

http://gaming-age.com/cgi-bin/previe...Dark%20Kingdom

arent any more impressive then any 360 game. them tech demos are amazing looking though

Forget 360. Those aren't any more impressive than some games for the first XBox. We'll probably see a number of games like that though. It will just be too expensive for some small companies to hire the number of artists and modellers necessary to really put the hardware to a test.

flashburn 03-27-06 05:24 AM

Wow, those shots look bad enough to be the PSP game.

joshd2012 03-27-06 11:24 AM

Looks like a typical SOE game. They have never done anything impressive and probably never will.

How's this for graphics? Factor 5's dragon sim Lair:

Yuck. I'm on the fence since we really haven't seen a lot, but there is no way I'm going to be forced into a bundle at $1,000 which will include some stuff I don't want.

ChrisHicks 03-28-06 01:06 PM

I just preordered 15 of them at 15 different Gamestop/EB stores. I'm going to make a fortune this year on these. now I just hope they don't come out at 1000.00 each because I'll have to sell one of my cars to pay for them.

**yes, I was being sarcastic and did not preorder 1 or 15. you just know that some people are already out there trying this though.**

Well, you have to admit that they really would make a fortune on ebay doing that. Maybe 4 or 5 dvdtalkers can pool their money together and actually try to do this.

kvrdave 03-29-06 06:43 PM

I wouldn't want to guess at the fortune to be made until the price is released. Sony could actually price it to a point that would have supply and demand in balance at launch. Don' know what that price point would be, but it would be very interesting to see.

Qui Gon Jim 03-30-06 05:21 AM

I think that if these $1K bundle rumors are true, you'll have no problems finding a PS3. That price tag takes it out of the hot Christmas gift running for most people.

joshd2012 03-30-06 07:02 AM

There was an interview with Phil Harrison where he confirmed that there is no tiered online system. Its all free!

Not a bad idea from the standpoint that everyone has had a terrible time trying to get the Japanese market to care about online, so hook them for free, and worry about money on the future platform. That would be my guess, anyway.

You suppose there is any chance of them changing to free for Japan, but because of some reason US people would pay a small charge? Probably won't make people here too happy, though.

Michael Corvin 03-30-06 03:12 PM

are they still going to allow the 56k-ers online?

Wasn't the PS2 going for 1000 on ebay during its launch without any games?

Well wouldn't that be a CRAZY idea. Either price it to do so or have an adequate supply on hand. Either way I'd be shocked...

$750ish.

Qui Gon Jim 03-31-06 03:28 PM

But the sellers only had to front $300 to get to that $750. If they have to front $1k, how much more can they possibly expect to sell them for?

Terrell 03-31-06 10:52 PM

Sony has a lot to prove when it comes to an online service. I remember their boasting about their PS2 online plans, and we know how that turned out. Being free is great, but if the service isn't worth a toot, it won't amount to anything. I would much rather than a piddling $50 a year for a solid, stable, kickass service like Live than play on a glitchy system that is free. We'll see how Sony handles it.

The problem is good, extremely high bandwidth servers are very expensive. Sony isn't exactly rolling in money, looking at their financials. It's be interesting to see if they hold firm on not having a pay level with more features.

One potential problem I see is if they are going to allow developers to run their own servers like I've heard before, I seriously doubt these developers will hand online play over for free. So is it really free if this turns out to be the case. Either way, E3 should be interesting,

They got 2.5x their money back, but that doesn't mean you won't hit a price point where you can't get it. If it came out at $500, that would mean selling them for $1250, and I don't think that is likely.

I don't think you can break the $1,000 barrier and hope to do anything. Even at that, I think a lot of true fanboys would wait, but be angry at Sony.

Hell, I don't know. It will be fun to watch.

The Bus 04-03-06 06:29 PM

Sony should release a special silver version of the console with a Blu-Ray disc of the making of the console and it came come in a steel case. The price would be $1500 and they could still sell 100,000 of them.

I think we are in agreement here. I think that no matter how desirable this thing is, $1K is way too much for most people to make an impulse buy, and it is also a huge chunk for a teenager to save up for. $500 is on the outside edge of the max pricing for something like this, and even that is a lot.

If Sony allows stores to sell only in bundles, and the bundles drive the price that high, Microsoft will be laughing all the way to the bank.

The Bus 04-04-06 02:28 PM

Worst. Idea. Ever.

The PS3's free online service, called 'Playstation World,' will include a 'blog-like' function. Through the use of the Eye Toy camera, you'll be able to record your own video blogs, which can then be shared through the online network.

You will also be able to view your friend's photos and videos from the PS3, on your PSP.

Phil Harrison, Sony's chief of game studios, revealed a few weeks ago that the PS3 will feature voice and video conferencing capabilities. Not only this but, all PS3 games will be region free, although DVD's will still be region locked.

I'd always understood that the Xbox 360 would incorporate these sort of functions and could be used as a complete communication system. One of the big flaws with the Xbox 360 communications is that you can't speak to more than one person at a time, unless you are in the same lobby, in the same game. It's looking like the PS3 will now be the ideal tool for business meetings, and mass communication.

I think it's a neat idea (and one that Xbox can easily assimilate) but a PS3? For business meetings?
