Power Button on Xbox 360 Media remote?

I have an xbox 360 with the media remote, and everything works great. I trained my universal remote to all the buttons, and every button works great except for "power on/off". I can still power it on by using one of the other buttons (such as media), but there is no replacement to power it off.

Anybody else have this problem, or know why this might happen? Thanks.

I have the Logitech Harmony 360 remote and the power on/off works great on there....so no, no issues. You can use your controller to power your system on and off also.

tried to learn the power button to my mx-500 and it works inconsistently; there certainly may be some type of problem with certain remotes

Dammit, I have an MX-500 too. That sucks. Oh well, the Xbox controller works "okay" just not as nice...

The 360 media remote power on/off and open/close buttons work with a "toggle bit" type function, where the remote internally keeps track of the status of the unit. The new Universal Remote MX-950 has this programmable function, but my MX700 doesn't. I can only get it to power on with the universal if I shut down the 360 from the console from my previous gaming session.

There's some info on it in this thread from remotecentral: link

Did you guys with the 676s do any custom setup? I have the 680 and have not reprogramed it yet.

Read through the threads. Basically what you can do is learn the "power" button onto two separate buttons. One will end up being ON, one will end up being OFF. Due to the toggle bit thing, the MX-500 remote can't learn it (the MX-700 does, I think). Oh well thanks for the pointers though !
