Was part of the AMEX mylifemycard.com deal (same place that sold 6 Range Rovers ($56,000 MSRP) for $5,000). They had 100 Xbox360s for $150 a piece. Wound up signing up for an AMEX just for that (as they wanted people to do I'm sure). Didn't get one, but ah well, came out with a 25% off @ Amazon and two Best Buy things for GCs for spending xx amount.

Yes, yes we did. That's where the 15 people were hold places for the other 15. And you were right, there weren't very many people actually in line.

At our local Best Buy, we had someone line up Friday afternoon!

Trust me, I was pissed. But these weren't kids and I knew if we waited there'd be nothing we could do to stop them as nearly everyone in line was holding a stop for someone so that someone could stay warm at home. This Best Buy was out in the middle of not where, nothing but farm houses as far as we could see. Everyone probably knew everyone else. When they said they had a list I said "what the hell gives them the right to make a list stating who gets one and who doesn't!"

And we did this for fun basically. It's not that we're that die-hard, we were just determined to do everything we could last night. We won't be trying anything like that again.

Cardiff Giant11 12-18-05 11:20 AM

Just got back from Best Buy, I took a quick look around on the off chance that one was still there but I didn't even see where they would've been. Plus the garbage can outside was totally full of what looked the kind of trash an all night line would produce so I looked around for a bit and then took off to hit up Home Depot.
I'm going to wait to see how my cash flow looks and since I've off work until January 3rd, if I really want one I can check some stores once a day.
Why do I get the feeling that this Best Buy relaunch thing is going to be causing a slew of "I WILL NEVER SHOP AT BEST BUY AGAIN!" threads on various message boards ;)

Sorry to hear that.Wooster isn't that bad. Did you stop in Mansfield on your way also?

Yeah, we did, but there was actually a line there, not just 15 people sitting in a circle.

BestBuy is REALLY DUMB to do this relaunch bullshit again in the middle of the winter and do it as a first come first serve bullshit too. I'm glad CostCo showed them up bigtime.

All of you hunting, I wouldn't give up all hope yet. This is the week before Christmas, most people who haven't gotten one at this point will have given up. Also the scalpers will be less active because there is very little time for them to profiteer from this using Ebay. Like if a shipment comes in tue/wed/thur there's VERY little time for them to list on Ebay and get it to someone by Christmas. Also with less people buying there will be less profits on Ebay. So really if any shipments come in this week, and I believe there will be, then you should have some good luck. Online will be hit and miss, with delivery time added in I think B&M is better.

Ha, if we had had some paintball guns handy we may have considered it. Or at least some freezing cold water balloons. The temperature there was around 12 degrees.

What I loved was the guy who came over to our car after we said we came from Columbus and said "I feel really bad, I'm holding a spot for my daughter and her boyfriend. We're just getting more than one because we can. If you want, for $100 I'll let you have one of my 3 places in line. You know, to pay for the time I've spent waiting." I should have yelled back "You ASSHOLE, you were waiting for your self, not everyone you know!"

I just wanted to shoot the guy right there in the parking lot.

Best Buy Madness

(Before I start my story, keep in mind, I have not read this thread in a few days, so I was unaware of the 360 shipment)

I was doing some last minute shopping last night up in Rochester, NY...I got to Best Buy around 7pm and to my surprise there were a ton of people (about 40) outside the store in chairs bundled up, and playing thier PSP's and DS's. At first I was dumbfounded at that site (athough I did the exact same thing for 12 hours for my 360 at launch at my local wally world :D) The first thing I thought of was, "I wonder if more 360's are coming in" so I headed to the video game section and started grilling one of the "geek squad" :D At first he was VERY tight lipped about everything, and in a very smug way he started claiming that those people were there based soley on a rumor and speculation. Well, I kept grilling him, and let him know that I already had mine, and then he finally cracked... -wink-

He said that the best buy stores were the ONLY stores getting the 360's and that they DID infact definetely have them to sell. Everyone must have known this too, because I was at many stores last night that sell gaming stuff and there was NO ONE camped outside any other store.

Why all the secrecy? I think thats ridiculous. In a way I feel sorry for the guy, he must have been asked the same question a thousand times a day, and I am sure that would get old quick, but come on. That kind of treatment really turns people off.

Good luck to anyone that still needs a 360 and especially if you waited outside, I hope you got one!!!

Who knows what that guy's problem was but the Xboxes Sunday morning have been far from a secret for the last 2 weeks.

The thing was never supposed to be an event, initially the plan was to get more instock and have them on shelves for opening. Then word leaked (I'm thinking intentionally) and it became the big debacle it, well, became. In a sense, they were trying to keep it more along the lines of a sales price (ie. that TV you're about to buy is $1299 now, but will be $799 tomorrow type deal) than them getting more in stock. Noble plan, but you can't keep stuff secret like that anymore. But however you look at it, it will get anxious parents into stores today trying to find spoiled little Jimmy a $400 gaming system for xmas. Hell, I wish my parents did that :p Of course, not a single one of those parents got one.

I just don't see how the profit from unloading it on Ebay would be worth the effort at this point. It'll be a PITA to unload it next week and get it to someone by Friday.

That dude was lying his ass off. Many CostCo's throughout the US received anywhere from 100 to 150 360's with really NICE & FAIR bundles. Most BestBuy's received 20-30 360's tops.

Exactly why he wanted to unload it then and there. He knew that was probably the best he could do on it anyway. If they got it on eBay this morning with a 1-day auction or a BIN, I'm sure they could make at least $200 though. I'll be pretty surprised if the prices on eBay are reasonable immediately after Christmas.

Right now I have a $800 bundle ordered on Amazon. I really didn't want to spend much more than $500 on the system and games, so I don't know if I'm going to keep it or not. It's supposed ship Thursday and get here on Friday. So I have a few days to decide. If it ships before that and I decide I don't want it I could always return it to Toys 'R' Us and would only be out $12 for shipping.

And I heard some of the Best Buy shipments may have come up "Suspiciously short"...if you know what I mean.

But who knows how true that one was.

Typical BB employee misinformational/uneducated bullshit.

The same type that said I couldn't buy a soda with my last Monopoly $$. :grunt:

thematahara 12-18-05 03:14 PM

All i can say is thank god for Circuit City. After all the stuff BB has pulled with their xbox shipments, I can say I'll be shopping at CC from now on.

On a side note, I got my first bit of real playtime on my new box and I can say I am very impressed. I got Madden, Gotham, and COD2 so far they are not dissapointing.

Good luck to those who havent found one yet, just keep monitoring the online tracker. If my unlucky ass can grab one anyone can.

We get the half of our Sunday paper that has the adverts and crappy sections on Saturday. It just so happened that we got the ad saying they were going to have them instock, on Saturday morning - plenty of time for anyone to notice and start a line. If they really wanted to keep it a secret, they wouldn't have advertised it and just let word of mouth spread the news.

Because they've handled this whole thing horribly? If they wanted to announce beforehand that the first 28 or 38 or however many people in line would get one, they needed to have a better system in place to deal with the effects. As far as I'm concerned, they should've had an employee at each store, sitting outside, signing people in when they got in line and scratching their name off if they left for more than 15 minutes. The store created a situation where a shitload of people were going to be spending the night in miserable weather to get a product, and then did nothing to ensure that the first 10 or 15 people in line didn't have others join them 10 minutes before opening, eliminating the chances of anyone else in line getting one. I'm not going to say I'll never shop at Best Buy again. Hell, I have $310 in gift cards I've received as gifts that I'm going to have to spend there sometime. That said, between how they've handled the 360 availability and the nonsense I had to put up with regarding Monopoly bucks a couple months ago, I will certainly avoid giving them business when I can.

nickdawgy 12-18-05 05:49 PM

Thankfully my Best Buy premium system hasn't been backorderd yet.

badlieut 12-18-05 06:58 PM

Well, my friggin Quake 4 and PDZ shipped. Nice. I guess I'll have fun looking at the packages. If I return them, then I lose my shipping.

John Sinnott 12-18-05 08:38 PM

OMG! GameStop has finally shipped my 360. Should have it tomorrow.
