Good luck you guys. I'm gonna wait until after Christmas. With finals and everything, the time is gonna fly by, and I'm having tons of fun with my DS. But yeah, 2006, I will be getting this system. =)

You people are the reason working at gamestop sucks lately :) Calling every store every day does not help you get one. If you did not order one in May, don't be mad at stores or Microsoft because you do not have one. Stopping in to a store and looking every day, however, is fine, because at least you put the effort into the looking. I just wish everyone would realize that they most likely will not get a system until Feb/March unless they are in the right place at the right time. As I stated before, the larger stores will not get as many shipments as EB/Gamestop due do our marketshare and pre-orders. Best Buy may be a fairly close second though. I'm not trying to threadcrap, but I'm on the otherside of this whole deal from you guys and thought I'd share some insight. The moral of the story is 'stop bugging people about a question that they honestly do not know the answer to, then getting pissed off at them'

From November 29 2001
http://web.archive.org/web/200112121...s/xbox-bundle/ Looks like there were no long shortages back then. |

discostu - I think we all know we'll never get one at gamestop or EBWorld or whatever before the year 2029. We are contacting big boxes to see if they have received any in. I'm not sure what is wrong with doing this, it's radiculous it think I should have to drive somewhere to see if they have it in versus just calling and having them hold it.

This is what is wrong with customer service today. You are paid for customer service, deal with the calls. We here are pretty savvy, but we are a minority, so I am sure the majority of people calling do not know that all the copies your store will be getting are for preorders. We also have had CSRs tell us no more shipments till June. Guess what this is wrong and unacceptable. Also very few places allowed preorders so this was not an option for most places.

If you do not like your job, then go work somewhere else. I worked retail too (Wal-mart, Best Buy and JC Penney) and hated some customers, but I was always kind and courteous UNLESS they were rude (I would get equally rude with them sometimes). |
Brilliant.
It's nice to know that the problem with customer service is the customers. Just a note, the customers are a reason you have a job. If they are rude and frustrate you and you return it in kind, you are letting them win. However, if you maintain your cool, remain civil while getting them to purchase something or just leave. You maintain the upperhand. It's amazing the number of people that work retail or where they deal with the general public who maintain the thought process "this job would be great were it not for the customers." |

the first good post you posted here all day... thanks |
I also worked in retail. I would get asked evey day when a movie that just came into theaters would be available on DVD. Sure this pissed me off, but I was still kind to the people who asked because they meant no harm by it. I see no reason why we customers should stop calling or showing up just because it pisses you guys off. If you don't like it, then quit. What the hell did you expect was going to happen for such a huge launch? People who did not get one would just back away slowly and not try again for four months? Give me a break. And most employes have this "fuck off" attitude to begin with, even before a launch. They just don't want to be bothered. So what's wrong with customer service today are the employees. It's a very rare ocassion where I see one who actually tries his/her best to help somebody out.

I don't understand why EBGames and Gamestop would get more of the second shipment than even Best Buy (who seemed to get the most). This wasn't true of the first shipment... did they have some kind of deal worked out? And don't tell me it's because of sales volume, as I'm sure Best Buy, Target, and Walmart all sell more as a corporate body than the specialty stores, even combined.
About the PSP launch: again, because it was readily available, it gave people reason to call the launch a failure. In actuality, the PSP sold decently for a non-Xmas release, and Sony correctly anticipated demand. But the overall consensus, even from some stores, was that it failed. Which makes me think that every single launch from now on will have some kind of initial shortages, if only to create hype. Something to keep in mind about stores revealing when their shipments come in: even if you find a store that knows for sure when a shipment is coming in, that means that they're also giving everyone else the same information, and that lines will start again. |
I worked at Toys R Us during Christmas the year the Power Rangers came out. And no, we don't have any White Power Rangers the night before Xmas, sorry.
But you know what? I spent nearly all my time dealing with the same questions, and I was always nice and courteous to the customers. Most of whom were parents trying to get something neat for their kids for Xmas. I just put myself in their place (or in the kids place) and did everything I could to accomdate them. It's not hard to do, it's part of the job. Anyway, I might hit some places tonight and into the weekend - maybe I'll get lucky! |

A couple of dumbasses (nibbling off the top of their popcorn without using hands) come in to the theater 5 minutes before it starts, with their mouths half full and ask me, "Are those seats saved?". Of course, I was nice and said, "Yes they are", but I was thinking, "No, these good seats right in the middle of the theater have survived this whole time without anyone else noticing them...advance to the chiropractic section please". Oh, to be Larry David sometimes. haha. |

Also, there is no way anyone will hold you a system if you call and they happen to have one :)

This job would be great if it weren't for the fucking customers.
Great attitude there Randal. Someone is obviously clueless as to what customer service means. Is it that hard to answer the same question with the same answer over and over with a smile on your face? If that stresses you out at work, you might want to try another line of work. And why do you tell them they should have pre-ordered? It serves no purpose other than agitating the potential customer. Also, it doesn't seem to have worked out well for those 50-150 people still on the waiting list did it?

I currently work in retail and YES the customers have their share of flaws and YES they ask the same questions over and over and YES it pisses me off but NO I realize that it is part of my job to remain respectful. If I dont like it, I can and should quit. Ex. We had to install new automatic doors because of an attempted break in and as the greeter I am right at the door so I have to answer at least 70 times during an eight hour shift what happened to the doors. I sometimes even see the same person come in that day and ask or comment about the door and it definitely pisses me off but NOT ONCE have I replied in a rude manner similar to what I have experienced when calling various stores about the 360. There is no excuse for those who work in the stores to be rude. PERIOD.

I'm sorry for letting this thread get off track after trying to keep it ontrack.
So it seems tomorrow will be the big day for hopefully trying to get one. Where is everyone planning on calling? Here's a tip, don't call GameStop, they blow goats. |
I will still look around but i will probably have more luck with Dell
