XBOX 360 Backwards Compatability List revealed

No new releases to my knowledge have been added to the list. As I said above, that leaves people unable to play games like Battlefront II, Prince of Persia, Spiderman Unlimited, X-men Legends II, Gauntlet, etc. (well, you could go back to your old Xbox, but then you couldn't transfer your progress to the new machine anyway...)

On the original XBox it took maybe half a second, on the 360 there's a noticeable pause and then it gets jerky for a second or two afterwards. Very annoying. Halo 2 seems to be fine though

I haven't heard a word out of any of the BC engineers or technicians since launch, I'm starting to lean toward a lot of the other posts that say having true backwards compatibility will never happen.
I agree, the thing is the game makers didn't have this new XNA crap MS has out for dev now. So I'm betting some games to get them to work will be hack and wack. I mean MS bought the company that made VirtualPC for the Mac for years you would think they could just change the .exe to .xbe and we'd be good to go, but i know there are problems with that as anyone who knows anything about programming can tell you. MS doesn't play super nice as far as the usual write an app high level and its portable. If they did all they would need to do is recompile the actual app to ppc and use the rest of what is on the game disc. But hey its okay the 360 is cool, but I think the only reason they used the ppc is because IBM gave them a better deal than Intel would on a multi core CPU. And now with Apple switching to multicore Intel Macs the next gen of dev kits for the 360 would be shipped with Intel so I guess you'll emu back to native ppc to dev???? Oh well at least MS has one thing Sony or Nintendo will ever have a very very nice adult hand fitting control. IMO

That is EXACTLY what I did as well. I got rid of my xbox on Nov 22nd when I got my 360, HOPING that the BC list would have grown by leaps and bounds by now

does anyone think they will make The Warriors of Burnout 3: Takedown backwards compatible? I sold off all my other non-360 compatible games, but kept those 2 in hopes they would make them work in the future.

Exactly how often is Microsoft supposed to be updating this? I finally found a 360 last week and disconnected my original X-Box... But now I'm ticked as only 10 of my 36 XB games work on the 360. I expected some titles not to work, but not over 2/3 of my collection. It's ridiculous...

We've been informed today that there are going to be no more Backward Compatibility updates released for the Xbox 360 until March at the earliest. Microsoft's David Reid has stated that the team who do the BC work are on holiday throughout January and will start work on priority titles when they return. But from what it sounds like, there will be only a few more updates released through 2006.

Regarding the issue of new Xbox 1 titles: a developer over at the Quarter to Three forums said that future Xbox titles will be required to run on the 360 and that MS has provided third parties with the tools necessary to make this happen. He didn't specify when this requirement would go into effect, though -- it obviously hasn't happened yet.

Yeah, that was first said somewhere about 6-9 months ago, so need to say I was quite startled when it turned out so many new titles are not working on BC. Quite disappointing.

Does no one even bother to look at the LIST?
It seems like all these people are all of a sudden surprised that certain games don't work. If you look at the list, which is posted everywhere, you'd be able to tell right away which games will work.
If it's not on the list, it's not gonna work PERIOD. Of course, if it is on the list, it may not work that well. I'm looking at you Ninja Gaiden Black.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but is anyone have weird glitches in the single player Halo 2? I can't remember if I had these issues when playing on my original XBox or not (I only played through it once). It seems that sometimes part of the background becomes permenantly etched into the top portion of my screen (It's not screen burn in, but it kinda looks like that). When I restart the game from the checkpoint it goes away (and it's not present in multiplayer or on other inputs). Anyhow I don't know if this is 360 specific or not.
On a side note, I just started replaying Halo 2 and man it looks great for a regular XBox game. I was playing it on live a while ago and really was digging it (I barely played live when I first got the game). Very cool indeed.
The bad news though is I think I'm going to have to get a better component switchbox, I think I noticed a very slight bit of interference on my component input tonight

Just read some bad news re: bc.
According to a report on ActiveXbox.com, there isn't going to be anymore BC updates until March/April the earliest. It goes on to say that there may be only a couple more for the entire year of 2006.
That is depressing to me since I play as many Xbox 1 games on the 360 as I do 360 games.
Here I am thinking an update was coming out this week and how pissed I am at how late it is, now it is over a month away.
Apparently the BC team was on holiday during January, man I wish I worked for MS.
I wish they would open up the emulator to play more games as long as you agreed it was an unsupported game.

Microsoft still going forward with backwards compatibility
Posted Jan 24th 2006 11:00AM by James Ransom-Wiley
Microsoft has laid to rest rumors that backwards compatibility efforts—getting Xbox games to run on the Xbox 360—will be on hold until March. According to MS, the rumors originated from a misinterpreted podcast, prompting the company to make this statement: "The backward compatibility updates are not on hold, and we're working to deliver them as soon as possible." An official date for the next update was not specified.

Yea, but if you dig through all the actual comments, it seems that there is some truth to the story. Nothing from Microsoft's response makes me feel any better.
