I do feel a tad lied to, but ah well.
That all said, it's understandable that not all the games are BC and are taking a while - there are resolution problems galore, and anyone that has tried to convert a 4:3 PC game to a 16:9 native mode knows the hassle that can ensue. I'm sure if they just said fuck it and released the games to flat out play (ie - 4:3 mode in 480i mode) every game would work reasonably well, but upconverting everything to 480p - 1080i widescreen is definitely a chore. That said, the list of current BC games is of course consisting largely of games that already support progressive, widescreen modes. |
I'm done waiting. I just put most of my xbox games up on half.com while I can still get a decent amount for them.

I would think that by this time, the new games coming out would have backward compatibility programmed in... |
I think their pretty obvious bait-and-switch strategy is promote the Backwards Compatibility, give a huge list of crappy games that nobody wants to play anymore but at least looks promising, continually promise that updates are coming "at a later date," and see how many people will buy 360 updates of current gen games. I think Burnout and Far Cry are the biggest examples of this. Combined with what's reported about EA wanting to make Burnout Revenge backwards compatible and the fact that NONE of the Xbox new releases (most notably for me, Black) are BC.
I think they're banking on people buying and playing strictly 360 games and not caring about BC anymore. I'm fairly guilty now that Oblivion is out, but I've still got 15-20 worthy Xbox games to play. |
I'm holding off on playing:
Psychonauts Prince of Persia 2 and 3 Star Wars BattleFront 2 Xmen Legends 2 Ultimate Spiderman and a few other Xbox games, because I'm waiting for backward compatibility. I still have my old Xbox, but not being able to transfer saves makes me want to wait if the list is going to be updated soon. |

:shrugs: I don't mind them working on other things but they seem to have completely abandoned BC. |
Its been updated. It now includes Black but only 3 other new games.
Oh well, I'm off to try Black on my 360. |
They've added three games to the list...
http://www.planetxbox360.com/?view=a...cle=1103&cat=1 # BLACK # Star Wars Battlefront II # Soccer Winning Eleven 9 EDIT: Dammit you beat me by like two seconds. |
Nice that they went through with Black at least, and Winning Eleven 9. Haven't played Battlefront II.
|
So far, Black plays great.
I did the first level at 16x9 720p and it was rock solid. |
Half Life 2 now plays 16x9 in 720p but the framerate wasn't good (but I only played 2 minutes and it usually is slow after first loading).
SSX3 still only played 4x3 in 720p and I couldn't save, same as before. They said they updated it, maybe I need to delete the game from my HD first. |
I'll at least give them props for getting probably the most wanted game on the list, Black, that's not available for 360 as well. Still waiting on too many more to list but it's a start, if I could have picked one it would have been Black.

Just found an interesting update from IGN that updates a few of the old patches that they apprently fixed up:
March 30, 2006 - In a quiet release yesterday, Microsoft updated its backward compatibility list with two kinds of updates: newly added games and fixes to old games. Recently added games feature Criterion's Black, Star Wars Battlefront II and World Soccer Winning Eleven 9. But it's the updated games that are really interesting. Twelve games previously on the list now work as they were intended to. Microsoft's engineers were able to better emulate the software in these particular games, and various reports indicate that Half-Life 2, Forza, Black, Ninja Gaiden Black, Ninja Gaiden, and SSX 3 are working smoothly in wide-screen and in both 720p and 1080i. New Games: Black Star Wars Battlefront II World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 Updated Games: Darkwatch Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Half-Life 2 Fable Fable: The Lost Chapters Forza Motorsport Ninja Gaiden Ninja Gaiden Black SSX 3 Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory kill.switch World Series Baseball 2K3 To receive the update, put any one of these games in your Xbox 360, connect to Xbox Live, and you'll get a quick five-second download. For a complete FAQ on BC games, check here. |
I wish that they would fix the first Halo to play properly in 720p.
|
Anyone tried Black yet on the Xbox 360, worth getting?

Yeah, tell me about it. There are a ton of xbox games I have been missing out on. (got rid of my xbox Nov. 22nd when I got my 360) I really hope they keep this up, there are a few more xbox games I would love to try too. |
I've read reports of Ninja Gaiden running perfectly now, anyone have it to test?
|
Glad to see they fixed up Fable.
Too bad Red Dead Revolver wasn't on that list...that game locks up on a level and I can't get past it. |
