Well, it's also, like I said, up to whether there are any launch games he wants to play.

I'd get the monitor as there's nothing that really interests me besides maybe Kameo in the launch window.

Which one are you getting & for how much? The only one I see at Dell starts at $600, but I'm assuming you must have some killer coupon that drops it down to $400.

And a 19" or 21" CRT. They're better than LCDs anyway, unless you are low on space or something. And cheaper! You can get your hands on a 21" Sony Trinitron tube for like $150 or so.

They both have their positives and negatives.

CRT - Excellent color, excellent contrast, no ghosting, excellent viewing angle, etc.
- Freakin' huge arse (space hog). Possibility of burn in.

Dell 2005W LCD - Absolutely beautiful monitor, no noticeable ghosting, saves a lot of space, never going back to 4x3 after computing in widescreen. Blindingly bright, excellent colors, USB inputs on monitor. Turns 90 degrees so you can view web pages vertically. No possibility of burn in.

- Contrast not as good, viewing angle not as good.

My current setup is dual 21" trinitrons but, one just died and the other has some serious brigtness and contrast problems. I bought them used about a year ago for $50 each at a swap meet. I just switched back to my old 17" Planar flat panel LCD screen a couple of days ago. It works pretty good but, there is a noticable blur when scrolling web sites and contrast sucks ass.

Do we know for sure that all 360 games will be $59? That sucks. I really don't like to pay more than around $35 per game if I can help it. That is the other big knock against the 360. I've seen PC versions of FEAR, Quake IV, COD II, etc. on sale in the mid 30's at Fry's one week or the other. It takes for ever for console games to come down to those prices.

Here is the deal on the monitor, Dell 2005FPW 20" Widescreen LCD $399 Buy it Now.

Here is a great deal on a Xbox 360. Xbox 360 $599 Buy it Now.

Well, 360 games will be $59.99 (except 1st part titles, they will be $49.99). I'm sure some will be on sale (or just buy used after a few weeks)

I guess if you use your PC to game more than a 360, go with a new monitor. Keep an eye out for the DELL 24" monitor also...they have gone for $770ish I believe. However, it appears liks $400 is the budget, right?

Xbox360 games are in next week's sales ads for Circuit City.

$59.99
Call of Duty 2
NBA Live 06
Quake 4
Madden 06

$49.99
Kameo
Perfect Dark 0
PGR

If your current monitor's are crapping out, I would pick up a monitor. Although if you previously had dual 21" CRT's, a 24" LCD might be nice

Buy the Xbox 360. Sell it at a high before the holidays. Use the profit to buy the monitor. Wait until January and then rebuy the XBox 360 if you want it.

Two items for nearly what you would pay for one.

There you go.

Well if your on computer alot monitor, if you play games/dvd watcher (this is dvdtalk cough cough) then xbox 360. I personally am waiting till spring to get 360 nothing to take my breath away. They arent using it potential fully (like all consoles in their initial release), and like all consoles when released (with exception of 1, or 2 games) wont have any great games for a while. So if you really are 50/50 in PC use/ tv game playing then id go with monitor just b/c video games systems always have crap at launch,

Not true you're actually still paying $800 you just made the other $400 (or more) from selling your original 360 anyhow that sounds like the way to go in my opinion but still some people would get pissed about selling a gift to make money. I should know; I've done it before.
